Darrelle Revis Appreciation Thread

So, I'd just like to say, thanks to Revis, a true professional, competitor, and teammate who is everything you'd want out of one of your players. Obviously I won't root for him playing for our biggest rival, but I also don't resent him, think he is "greedy, selfish" or in any way tainted. No one can ever take away our Lombardi, the most important in the history of this team..

I think you're largely spot-on. The guy helped deliver us #4. Nothing else really matters. We've seen how hard it is to win a title, we've had a lot of good players come through here and it hasn't put us over the top, Revis did.

In terms of him deciding to go back to a crappy team for slightly more money. That's his prerogative. As several people said in another thread recently, the utility of the few million dollar difference for a guy who will earn $160 million over his career is truly negligible. I doubt Revis and his agent, who is probably just some bro with a suit like the rest of them, are actually thinking of the economics of it. That's too bad. He would've cemented his legacy here, instead he's going to go be irrelevant for the rest of his career.

I feel bad for people that bought those authentic $300 Revis jerseys last year. What a waste of money. Going forward, I appreciate everything Revis did for this franchise in 2014 and I wish him zero luck in his future endeavors. I just hope we can get a more well-rounded secondary than what we have right now.

I don't think he's going to be irrelevant at all but I highly doubt he wins a Super Bowl over there. He had a better opportunity here to win more and, had that happened, people would have been talking about him as being the greatest CB of all time. Without multiple titles, he'll always just be "in the conversation", as they say.

I'd be surprised if the Jets don't continue to suck. They have sucked with him and they have sucked without him. The reason I am fine with the Patriots not shelling over $16 mill a year (for the first three years) is simply because even Revis - as great as he is - is not worth that many wins (say as a QB, like Brady) because of the position he plays. Revis was on the Jets when they had one of the worst pass ranked D's in the league. He can only do so much playing corner on one side of the field.

So I guess it depends on how you want to define irrelevant. I don't think he'll be playing into January & February anymore, though.

I hope Mevi$ shatters both knees on the first day of TC and never plays another down again.

Revis is a truly special player and I'm happy he donned the Flying Elvis in his career, if only for one year.

Like everyone else, I hope he falls apart, especially when playing the Patriots, in the future.

A $300 jersey is always a waste of money when you can get the same jersey from China (almost certainly from the same factory that's making them for the NFL) for $45.

Revis came here, did his job, and the team won the championship.

No one should complain about that.

To a much lesser extent it's sort of like Ted Washington in 2003. We traded a draft pick for him in 2003, he filled a role, and we won the championship. Sure, he was gone the next year but I don't think anyone would argue that it was a wasted draft pick (or wasted money in Revis' case). They did what they came here to do.

We knew the guy was a mercenary. He won the battle he was hired for. You can't say that he doesn't care about winning because he got that itch scratched. I hope he takes all of the Jets' money. :)

I appreciate the effort, the professionalism, and the skills he brought to the table. I will miss him as much as I missed Moss on offense. Both elite players, but the cap more or less guarantees that you cant have that many elite players on your squad, at least not if you want balance. It would have been nice if he had stayed, but we already have TB and Gronk at elite level and a few closing in on that status (Collins, possibly Hightower). I am glad we didn't pay more than we could afford, and yes it didn't make sense to keep Browner if Revis was gone..but I am going to miss the quality of that secondary at least for a year or two.

I do wish him health and fulfillment and even a HOF bust in the future, but no more championships. I think he does deserve a standing O when he returns to play at the Razor, it would be most unsporting not to do so. The rest of the beans can be booed as much as desired, but Revis is a rare talent and deserves better than that from us fans.

3 playoffs games, 3 catches allowed for 25 yards. I just hope our new #1 corner can do that in one playoff game. As for what happens on this point forward for Revis, I just like to say that "You know why you were here".

Simple logic applies here.

If all Jets Suck, and Darrelle Revis is a Jet, then Darrelle Revis sucks.

Sad but true.

Revis has to look out for himself and his family....
Yes, the family. They need food on the table. Perhaps now they also can afford a second border of gold-leaf trim on their fine linen toilet paper. A single border is so ... bohemian.

First, our General Manager doesn't collect talent like the teams before the cap or teams in desperation mode. He's the greatest coach in NFL history and he's known for coaching up players that others pass on. That's his entire thing.

Second, as GM, Belichick managed to get the best QB, TE, and CB in NFL history to play together at a value price and managed to keep two out of three for the next year, with a strong supporting cast in many other positions. That's fantastic. On the other hand, tying up lots of money in a CB is exactly how the Jets ended up losing Revis the first time around, and they're setting themselves up again.

Third, every player, heck every coach, staff, parking lot attendant of any sport would take $40 million guaranteed to play for the Jets, regardless of sport, crappy fans, or terrible history. Teams have lots of turnover anyway. Getting $40 million to show up on day one -- even Belichick or Brady would go to the Jets for a day, cash the check, and retire the next ;)

Great player, great year, but disappointed that Revis not caring about his legacy and will go to a crappy team

I appreciate his contributions last year. Then again, I appreciate that hooker I rented and banged last night too.

Much as we wanted to convince ourselves otherwise, Revis was NEVER a Patriot. He was just a player that played on New England during a championship season. We payed him for his services, and he used us for a ring he never would would have earned without us. Transaction complete. Enjoy your new found mediocre team Mevis. Don't forget to pull up your drawers on the way out of town.

I wish nothing good for Revis. A guy wants nothing but money. He doesn't deserve a ring. I am so pissed. He will regret.
