Manish Mehta published the Jets' offer to Revis on Monday before Revis was released

It is a clear cut case, but I'm not seeing the big deal. Does anyone really believe that Revis' agent wouldn't have had just as much information had NY handled things more quietly? It almost certainly had no tangible impact on how things played out.

If anything, Johnson's zeal may end up getting NE a free draft pick for a player they would have lost anyway. I can live with that.

I got $100 bucks to the charity of your choice that the Patriots get nothing from this. At worst, the Jets forfeit a 7th, but honestly, I doubt we'll ever hear a peep about it from the NFL front office.

Goodell loves this stuff - his league is owning twitter, ratings are sky high. it's just entertainment to them, and tightening up the AFC makes for more $$$$$$$.

It isn't a big deal. People just like to complain. Revis was always going to NY.

Tampering happens all the time. People need to get over it. Getting the Jets 1st round pick is absurd.

Tampering happens all the time, but it's rare for an organization to be stupid enough to leave this much proof. Like with most punishments Goodell hands down, he would be punishing as much for brazenly and repeatedly ignoring his authority as for the actual offense.

I might be missing more to this story - what exactly did the Jets do? Woody said he'd love for Revis to be a Jet again...is that it?

Odds are good by past punishments for tampering that the Pats will at least switch mid-rounders with the Jets. The Lions' case is the best example. Their DC said something stupid similar to Woody Johnson and they switched 5th rounders with the Chiefs. If they can prove they tampered in the past five days, it will be significantly more. Not the Jets' first rounder though.

If the tables were reversed the national media would be making a push to have the Pats fork over a first round pick, a fine and Bill's name be stricken from the record books if not the English language.

I'm IN for $100

Miguel's brother's "Bread of Life" is my pick.
I lose if it's only forfeit a 7th or less.

They don't have a 5th or 6th and past punishments a 7th would be a f'n, so it would probably be the 4th. Giving the Pats

1st
2nd
3rd
3rd (Talib)
4th (TB)
4th (NY)

Pats kind of looking good if they want to go up and get a couple of guys.

If nothing happens I hope BB repeats Woody's press conference word for word next time they ask him about Bevis.

If there is any evidence of tampering over the weekend, swap of 2nd loss of fourth.

Woody Johnson: “Darrelle is a great player. If I thought I could have gotten Darrelle, for that (contract), I probably would have taken him. But Darrelle’s a great player. I’d love Darrelle to come back."

NFL: “Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of this Anti-Tampering Policy. (Example of a prohibited comment: ‘He’s an excellent player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another club holds his rights.’)”

The Jets have offered evidence of mega tampering to the league on a silver platter. We have hit the jackpot and if the league doesn't swap our first for theirs then I will be mega p*ssed.
Don't hold your breath.

This also gave Revis 3 entire months to think about returning to the Jets. As opposed to Revis finding out just 12 HOURS AGO LIKE HE'S SUPPOSED TO, that the Jets were interested.

I'm also certain a ton of family members & old friends from NY were bugging him to come back as well. Also, here's a twitter account of his cousin or uncle.

Note the time. 5:08 PM yesterday he basically implied he was going back to NY.

99% of his tweets are about Revis. He's got a massive erection for him.

As much as I would love this, you can't be serious. I would bet my mortgage they don't get near this much. Swap of 4ths if we're lucky.

If this doesn't at least warrant a Ted Wells investigation that just means from now on there's no such thing as tampering. If BB wants to come out in a press conference and announce he's meeting with Sheldon Richardson this weekend on a future contract that's a OKAY. As well as every team that has ever been punished for tampering getting a big time explanation.

Its the Pats. League doesnt care as long as they arnt the ones doing it

I don't want the NFL to compound its mistakes. Wells should've never been involved in something as trivial deflategate when the science explained it. But Joffrey Baratheon Goodell wanted to flex his muscles and show his power, so he had to roll out the dog & pony show during Super Bowl week. It also proved a lovely distraction from the clusterbleep of the year the NFL had in much weightier issues, like players turning into invalids by middle age, and the anger & violence of the game carrying over to domestic life.

I'm not saying we should off with Johnson's head. But the Pats signed a two year contract and took on $5 mill of dead money with Revis last year for two reasons - one to spread the hit, but two, to get a chance to negotiate with him as a player under contract. Thanks to the Jets wooing him, they never got to do the latter. Maybe that was never going to happen, but look, the Jets at least have to maintain the status quo and do their tampering discretely.

But that wasn't the Patriots offer they reported it was the jets.
=========================================

Does any one have an idea what the Pats offer was?
Did they have an opportunity before or after cutting Mevis to make one?

there was a blurb from one of the Pats beat writers that it was 35 million guaranteed, but nothing confirmed. Probably will never be confirmed either.
