Agreed!! Ownership killed this. Amazing how the Kraft's always skate on issues of cheapness.
I'm still shocked that a genuine defensive game changer like Revis only got $39 mil guaranteed and the Patriots would not even come up that high. Unreal!!

Nonsense. If BB told Bob the team needed to step up he would have. They have never denied him financial resources - never.

Revis wanted to go back to the Jets. Period.

I personally dont feel bad. Iam still happy and giddy we won the superbowl. Dont get many offseasons like that so Iam not letting FA signings and leavings bother me. Whatever happens, as long as we got #12 we are going to be in it and BB will put together a competitive team .We just dont know who so hence the panic. In the words of Aaron Rodgers R-E-L-A-X.

Revis was a luxury loaner and a one-night stand. This franchise is built to compete over the long haul, not just 2016.

Supposing we had signed Revis to $70MM over 5 years.... in two years when he is 32 years old and slowing down, we'd be forced to watch as at least two of Jones, Hightower and Collins depart in free agency because we just cant fit long term deals under the cap. And then all the local haters would call Kraft cheap for not signing his best young linebackers.

All I can say is, trading Seymour is how BB was able to keep Wilfork. That's the way the salary cap works. Losing Lawyer Milloy. Losing Wes Welker. Losing Asante Samuel. Team just needs to find new ways to win.

Revis deserves all the accolades as the best CB in the NFL. But this is a team sport. Lots of ways to build a 53-man team.

We can all safely assume that Revis won't be narrating 3 Games to Glory 4.:D

LOOOOL @ the talk comparing this to the 1997 Marlins firesale

...disturbing. ;)

I am sorry, but I pay over $4,000 a year and spend entire days freezing my arse off watching the Patriots, if I want to vent about losing a player of Revis' ability...I should be allowed to vent without being called a "chicken little"

If anything, it is the people who do not go to the games and then cry about me venting that are the frigging weak arse fools. Until you put your money where your mouth is, you should just keep those types of comments to yourself.

Hey no one is forcing you to spend $4k on the patriots and sit at every game. That's your choice and no one should feel any sympathy for you.

Bb made the best choice for the team, you don't pay $39millioj dollars to a player that's gonna be 30. I don't care how good he is, that's way to much money to give him right away.

Bullhooey

I think the front office smelled Revis's departure a long time ago and it came down to whether they were going to exercise the option or not....even with that, they probably assumed they weren't and just chose to sit until the last possible moment provided there was no situation like last year where they replaced talib with revis.

the focus need to be with improving the athelticism of the front 7 anyway

I think it's cute that all the other AFC east teams are going like gangbusters to unseat the pats.......they may come close and actually do it this year, but have you ever seen a more pathetic scramble of non-playoff teams with a 'win now' mentality? nothing but deals to address the next year or 2 before their new purchases all become cap liabilities

Add the Colts to that group, signing as many 30+ FAs as they can: Frank Gore, Andre Johnson, Trent Cole.

Kendall Langford too......he's the one that worries me

but the colts aren't in the AFC east, and Frank Gore will look like Trent Richardson

Amazing that people who talk this kind of sh.t always skate on issues of ignorance.

You expect those other teams to do nothing? Sooner or later our pats could be looking at a fight within the division. I think this coming year could be it.

For everyone freaking out, try this: pretend Revis just decided to retire.

We would all be devastated, but would focus forward. Take the blame out of it and it becomes an easier pill to swallow.

As I said in another thread, we gave up a lot of points to two mediocre offenses in the playoffs last year. BB will still field a competitive defense and TFB is still hungry.

Sometimes I wonder if some fans would rather see big names and big stars on this team than trust BB's track record in building a perennial contender and 4 time SB winner....

Ask the Redskins how that approach has worked out.

Ok, Revis is gone, but Patriots' life is still going on. Of course losing him hurts, I know, but let's have a faith in BB. We were crying after Welker, Talib and everything ended well. It's obvious we can't replace Revis, but he really wanted to go back to NY, so let it be. McCourty showed he is a real, reliable Patriot - he rejected a bigger offer to help his team. That's the guy. Maybe Revis is a better player, but he has no heart to play for our team, he is just a mercenary. I think since the beggining he has been thinking of coming back to NY ( his so called home) and New England was just a stop.
I believe BB will figure something out. This is the beggining of the FA, therefore give him a credit and time to fix our secondary.

I am disappointed that Revis is gone but I am waiting to see what moves we make. I might be among the minority here when I say we need to retain Browner now.
If by August we haven't made any moves then I will be wringing my hands, till then I will wait with anticipation !!

We can talk about bb doing this and doing that but brady is not a young buck. You need great players on defense to win championships. I am sick of this team drafting defensive backs. I think bb is stubborn at times.

I have to think that part of BB's thinking is that even with Revis, Browner etc on defense they still got toasted by Baltimore in the playoffs and Seattle at times in the SB (particulary before the end of the first half.) Maybe his thinking is to pay more on offense to make sure they can keep up. If they get Harvin, and trade up a little to get Gurley, then get another Offensive guard who is going to stop them?
