If we all here had a choice, 90%+ would rather kept revis and browner over Mccourty. Mccourty became good once again when revis joined. No matter what happens, we still trust are coach but some poor decision and planning was done here. Mccourty is not going to make are defense a lot better at a safety position with no corners. A player like Revis and Sherman come around once in a blue moon. A player like Mccourty are not hard to fine. Either way we have to move on and go back to are old ways on defense. Sorry I just had to post this and get it off my chest

McCourty was good before Revis came along. He didn't become good because of Revis. They worked well together, but they're both good players on their own too.

Yeah, it's not like McCourty was an All-Pro the season before Revis came or anything.

Can't agree with you more, you are absolutely right!

McCourty could have been replaced by Wilson and nobody would really know the difference if Revis and Browner were still here.

Okay, now this is just laughable. You want to say there are other options out there at safety I can at least see where you're coming from, but if you replace McCourty with Wilson last year, we don't even get past the Ravens (if we even get a bye week at all).

McCourty has been excelent at S since the beginning (i did like him at CB too, TBH, but as a Safety he is top 3 in the nfl)
Obviously i didn't like to see Revis go, but it is understandable. I don't get why we gave up on Browner as much (i don't agree that he needed to have an elite corner to be efficient) , but he may still come back, i just doubt it will be much cheaper.

Anyway, i am confident that we have, at least, cap space to put us right back at the top

McCourty is a much better player than Browner. Browner was a perfect complement as a physical presence that could jam receivers off the line but he is not very good in coverage and needs that help over the top that McCourty provides. I'd much rather keep McCourty than Browner. Browner is a nice complement to Revis and McCourty but not without the cover skills of the other guys. That being said, I'd rather have Browner on the roster right now than not.

If players like McCourty aren't hard to find, then why are there so damn many awful safeties playing (and starting) in the NFL?

McCourty was good long before Revis and Browner arrived. They complemented each other nicely this season and were rewarded with a superbowl.

If not for McCourty, Browner wouldn't have been nearly as effective. McCourty erased a lot of Browner's mistakes.

Any pro safety can fill in with revis and browner including chung. Mccourty's best year was his rookie and that may be been a fluke.

It was McCourty who stabilized this secondary when he moved to safety. Revis took it over the top, but McCourty's play at safety originally rescued it.

There's a whole lot wrong with this post, so I'll just focus on one element...

No doubt most posters would have preferred to keep Revis over McCourty. The question is would most posters support keeping Revis on the contract he just signed and/or McCourty on his new contract?

Belichick knew Revis was going, so he no longer valued Browner as high and knew he needed to keep McCourty as insurance to protect his young cornerbacks.

Uh, no. The fact that you think so should put you in the timeout chair.

As I said, McCourty was an All-Pro at safety the year before Revis came. It was his second All-Pro nod, and it was at a second position. Take a nap or something.

McCourty's a star safety who probably didn't get enough credit last season because Revis was so good. Sure, he's not an all-time great like Revis, but I can't say I'm unhappy to have him back at the price.

Browner's a situational player who can be either a total shutdown corner or a burn victim and/or flag magnet depending on the receiver he's facing and the coverage scheme. He's a big guy and a heavy hitter and an important part of the Super Bowl victory, but he also had a number of games this year where he looked terrible and needed to be heavily aided by a safety or totally replaced by guys like Ryan or Butler. If they had lost to the Ravens, I don't think anyone would be saying Browner was worth more than the option they declined to pick up. And he could always be back...

Jackwagons all coming out from under their rock today... horrible thread.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
