anyone feel a trade is coming?

It would appear cheesy on the surface, but what about trading for J. McCourty?

that is called doubling down on your previous mistake.

Honestly, who is out there to trade for? Elite press corners are few and far between (which is why you don't let them get away). The Pats will have to re-tool their entire defense back into the bend and don't break defenses that Eli (twice) drove the field on while completing 4th downs to score the winning TDs. Look the Pats D still had major issues with Revis and Browner, (lest anyone forget the 80 yard TD drive in 20 seconds at the end of the first half of the SB). Now they have lost Wilfork, Revis and Browner. They have 3 very good young players in Hightower, Jones, and Collins. A crafty veteran in Niko, who always seems to make the big play. But that is about it. Is there someone out there that is going to drastically change this defense, I doubt it.

Garappolo has a better chance at being Mallett 2.0 than a franchise QB

And there's a solid chance Brady remains playing QB at a high enough level to the point where Garappolo's rookie contract is expired and leaves
Jimmy g is better than Mallett already but that being said, many people are over rating him. I would trade him for Haden in a second. JG is completely unproven.

Why would any team give up their #1 corner to the pats?

Maybe BB will try and grab some pass rushers or switch to a zone defense. The fact is beside last year the the secondary has been bad for almost 10 seasons. I truly believe BB has no issue at all rolling with dennard/logan ryan/butler/arrington for next season.

why would the saints give up their #1 tight end? If lewis wants to leave or wants his contract fully guaranteed I call them up if im the pats.

the pats secondary was pretty decent in 2013 with Talib..

Because it is much easier to replace someone that can catch the ball versus a shut down corner. Plus the saints, after a 7-9 season, appear to be rebuilding.

Unfortunately decent secondaries don't usually win championships.

Something big is going to happen this offseason. It has to, they have too much money to spend and a league mandate to spend it all.

Or they could just extend HT, Jones and Solder.

Can we please put a moratorium on "window" talk? We get it. All of us want the best possible team every single year, but the team clearly won't stop planning for the future regardless of Brady's situation.

You know our defense was good last year, but it wasn't otherworldly even with Revis & Browner. The Ravens moved the ball pretty well on us and The Seahawks were still one yard and an incredible play by Butler away from winning it.

Maybe Belichick wants to go in a different direction scheme wise.

Maybe he's doesn't want to spend big money on corners when you have clowns like Flacco who just chuck it up there and draw pass interference calls even on "elite" corners.

Belichick is always one step ahead of the rest of the league, give the man some credit and the benefit of the doubt.

I sure hope they have a backup plan to make up for the losses over the last few days. I know that BB and Kraft have a plan and stick to it. I appreciate their foresight around the organization beyond this season, BUT knowing that the time to win is NOW with Brady, I hope they feel a sense of urgency to 'somewhat' mortgage the future in order to win now.

The Patriots don't see it that way.

Cousin,
Does not "Dennard/Logan Ryan/Butler/Arrington" scare the crap out of you? Does not the fact that BB is not noted for stellar DB choices (McCourty was o.k. but not a Canton pick). It scares me more that he might pick a DB again. O.K. If we do that let's gamble on talent. Revis was a nice guy.

Draft? Marcus Peters has the ability to start and an upgrade on any of the above even Butler! Not a Pats "goody-goody" type but a major tough guy we lost in Browner.

You are all right. No one will trade a starting CB to the Pats but there are a few intriguing names. Pierre Desir of the Browns actually out-played first round pick Justin Gilbert. At 6'2" he has the skill set of Browner and more youth and speed. He also has one NFL year under his belt from a small school. Unlike Gilbert (who might also be available as the Browns look to have Hayden's tandem CB and are even looking at Browner Now! It makes sense as Browner was the perfect #2 CB across from a shut down guy).

Do we see if we can pry Desir from the Browns?

Do we see if the mega talented Justin Gilbert could be had as a BB reclamation project and offer perhaps a 3rd?

Chris Culiver absolutely makes sense . 15 PBU and 3 INT in 2014. Get it over with BB. Better than any CB we have now for all you haters.

Take a flyer on Fairley (another reclamation) who can solve a DT problem and is a disruptive pass interior pass rush type along with signing Sheard to go with Ninc and Jones and the Pass Rush helps the DBs. Fairley has the talent to be a top tier DT if he has effort. That effort should change here or else.

As far as all you "sugar coaters" BB and Bob K screwed up letting Revis walk. McCourty was easier to replace. Schmuck is a term Bob likes to use. It seems to fit in this case. Hey the Pats aren't perfect.

Actually, I see McCourty moving to CB again this season.

Don't sell short on Malcom Butler. What more do you want to see to know he can play in the NFL at a high level?

Would be nice to have Browner back. Browner and Butler starting, with an early draft pick at CB. That isn't going to replace Revis, but it may be good enough to defend the SB crown. Key will be if the rest of the team can pick up some of the slack. Singing an elite TE and/or WR would help a lot.

That kid must be ecstatic right now, the last play of the Superbowl might very well be the starting point of another amazing NFL career.

Why would they take him off a position where he's elite and play him at a position where he isn't?

Moreover, where are our starting safeties coming from?

There has been tons of trading so far this year, and Trader Bill is the best at it, so I feel like it's likely.

That's not actually true. Besides the Seahawks and the Pats the last two years, there have been a number of teams without elite secondaries that have won. Hell, the Giants didn't have an elite secondary either of the times they beat the Pats.

Because he would be our best CB. McCourty and Butler playing on the outside with Arrington in the slot is the best solution. There's no one we can sign or trade for that would give us a better CB trio. Unless we get lucky in the draft, which is unlikely.

Starting safeties will be Harmon and Chung.

who knows, i think the krafts are happy that they saved some cash.

has brady commented on losing revis yet??

Between the two you probably have one starting-caliber safety.

I strongly disagree.

Anyways, what's a better [realistic] alternative? I've yet to hear one.

maybe bill can snatch verner from the bucs?

Verner and Ryan would be a somewhat competent zone CB duo with McCourty and Harmon patrolling over top. Chung can play an in the box LB role.

I'm not sure how Butler and Dennard fit into the zone scheme. Far from an x's and o's expert.
