How does that work and what can we expect ?

We should get the 98th or 99th pick the 97th will go to Detroit for suh I am assuming we don't sign anyone to a contract over 10 million though

Saw someone throw about the term "Stallworth precedent," set in 08...

His option was not picked up;He was not released. Huge difference. Miguel tweeted this almost verbatim earlier today...

Then how did the Pats get #97 for Donte Stallworth? Same deal. (declined option)

I was told by Mike Llyoko on twitter tonight that Revis will bring a comp pick.

Now, I'm guessing that holds true for wilfork and browner. If it is, we may have several good free draft picks next year.

Every FA we sign cancels out a FA we lose. The only exceptions are cut players and min salary players. Those do not count in the compensatory formula.

Any qualifying FA we sign cancels out a lost FA of lesser contract value first, then higher value. Teams can be awarded a maximum of four.

Currently the Pats are in line for a 3rd (Revis) and two 6ths (Vereen, Casilias).

The one FA we signed (Gibson) doesn't qualify because he was a cut.

So long as the Pats sign one less FA than they lose (and sign nobody to a bigger contract than Revis) they'll get a 3rd.

I was just thinking, the best comp pick would be getting the Jets at home at the end of the year. Assuming SOJ and a pats post season birth, a steady "play offs...play offs...play offs" all game with some choice signs behind the Jest bench. Repeat this until revis has retired.

Just for kickers, we draft some kid who storms the scene, after revis gives up a touchdown to Edes, chants of "pipedream is better..."

Is this confirmed? That, and the Jets' #1 for tampering would take some of the sting out of this.

Unless we sign a surprise FA for a lot of money you can take the 3rd round compensatory pick to the bank.

IIRC the Pats didn't pick up Stallworth's option in 2008 and received a 5th round compensatory pick the next year. That is the precedent Miguel cited for receiving comp picks for not picking up the option on a player. The highest comp pick is at the end of the third round depending on size of the contract, length and player's performance (i.e. Pro Bowl, All-Pro).
Using that logic, would the Pats then receive comp picks for Revis, Wilfolk and Browner (if the last two are signed by other teams) as well as Vereen who left as a FA??? And comp picks are offset by players the team signs...

Someone else posted this nice overview of compensatory picks in one of the threads here: http://overthecap.com/compensatory-draft-picks-cancellation-chart/

What about Browner? He also became a free agent when we didn't pick up his option.

the pats are getting nothing in the tampering even if the jets are penalized
