Revis Signs with NYJ

39 million guaranteed over 3 years. That's not a whole lot. The Pats really couldn't match that? I just don't understand.

I don't understand either. Revis for 13m$ makes sense to me for 3 years

My pointing out that the ostriches are acting just like the CLs they're belittling must be a problem for you, then. I'm sorry for your sensibilities. Feel better soon.

BURN

Revis was great at 12 million. But where do you draw the line? He's getting 16m for each of his first 3 yrs. Brady, the GOAT, doesn't get that. They are all great at a reasonable rate. We all know how the Pats operate. We don't hear too much complaining when they get to the playoffs every year. Oh wait, maybe we do

Where do you draw the line? That's a good question, and I'd imagine that every coach and GM would be at least a little flexible about it, which makes it even more difficult to answer. Since I wasn't talking about Revis' money, but about the behavior pattern of the ostriches, though, I'll leave it for another time.

His two spectacular plays in the SuperBowl were one on one deep balls against Kearse with no help. These were not little dinky crossing patterns, like Revis struggled with at times.

Pretty sure the two plays you're talking about were out of the slot. I like his short area quickness and I think he is a bit too slight to consistently win against bigger receivers outside.

Deus taking the opportunity to strut about how superior he is to a group of people he compares to some kind of animal (yapping little dogs, mindless sheep and now ostriches)

(And me commenting on it)

All is right with the world.

Ben Volin @BenVolin
I’m told Revis wants $40 mil guaranteed over 3 years and the #Patriots balked at the full guarantee
The #Patriots don’t mind the $40m but want outs in the contract while Revis wants it fully guaranteed

That was long before it was announced that he was going to the Jets. If that's right, then it's not the $39M that the issue, it's the fully part. Who else in the NFL got $39M fully guaranteed on signing? Fellow corners Sherman and Peterson got about $12M and $16M. JJ Watt got $31M on a contract with a ton of front-loaded cash. $39M guaranteed isn't necessarily a lot. $39 fully guaranteed is a ton.

16 mil the first 3 yrs. 39 million guaranteed. I don't know the specifics, but according to McGinest on the NFLN, it's only 1 million a year more than what the Pats offered. The Pats stick to their guns. It's been a decent formula so far.

I'm just impressed that this thread lasted well into the teens of pages before it completely devolved into the standard patsfans.com Offseason Mud Chuckin Rally.

Revis is a good player. He enabled a lot. He received a lot of money somewhere else. Money that went past a standard "planet player marginal overpay". Money bad teams pay and good teams don't. The Pats lost the best corner of his generation. The other outside corner is likely gone because 1) he's the type of player that you get to compliment Revis and 2) Theres a scheme change a comin. That stinks. The Patriots are still really freaking good and really freaking young even though the Modern Montana isn't. They're prolly gonna adress a couple of things. They're probably going to get better in places they weren't so great last year and probably be worse in areas they were pretty awesome in. They'll still be balanced. The defense still has the most playmakers it has had since the early-mid 200o's. Tomorrow the sun will rise, life will go on, and the Patriots will still be really freaking good. Exhale. The team is in the best hands possible. Enjoy the ride. We're never getting another Belichick again and more years with him have passed than there are ones to come. Enjoy the experience and let's all be cool to eachother in the process :)

Cover corners are hard to find. Even bill will tell u that. More zone coverage coming up. I would feel ok if we had a d line that could create pressure from time to time. I been down on chandler as an edge rusher. Hardly see an interior rush. Would be nice to have that jets first round pick right now.

I posted this on March 4th....

"
I've learned to temper whatever optimism I have for retaining our big name players by the 14 year track record established by BB and the front office in these matters.

I'd get used to the idea of no Revis, McCourty, Vereen and of course Wilfork(unless he takes a big step down in money).

I will hate it but ...I hate to say this again, the redundancy is excruciating, but..it is what it is."

• 1983: Worked for the New York Jets in public relations and administration offices.

• 1984: Returned to the NFL's offices as a public relations assistant.

I admit I'm a huge homer but as ANYONE can see I expected the Pats to not only let Revis go, but also McCourty,Vareen and Wilfork. I was wrong about McCourty. Now today, the whole screamimg mimi Pats fanbase is in an uproar because Revis did what even an unabashed homer like me thought he would 6 days ago? The season is OVER now? It's all no good because the Pats now will start ONLY the players they have left on the roster in the secondary? So ridiculously knee jerk it boggles this Pats fan's mind.

Look, if your emotional health and stability is so tied into one of 22 starters on this team, perhaps you'd be better off picking any of the other 31 teams to root for. YOU will feel better and those of us left to follow the Patriots won't miss you for a NY second. Enjoy your misery.

So if somebody offers Revis 20 mill a yr, we should pay 21?

The pats win games no matter what happened tonight but defense still wins championships. Lousy cornerback play has cost us two championships. Brady is an all time great who can cover lousy defenses.

No. If they Jets paid 5/100 for Revis then I would be totally accepting of the Pats not getting him. I wish they did, I would sleep a lot easier tonight! But they didn't pay 20 mil a year. They paid 16. And just for 3 seasons, all well within his prime.

So don't bring up irrelevant hypotheticals

16 m is too much. Leave that crap to the doofins. Tommy dont get that. Revis don't get that. The Patriot way. Where you been?
