The Most Egregious Case of Tampering Ever

I don't expect much from any tampering case, aside from maybe a fine for Johnson (obviously worth it to him), and a swapping of some late round picks.

Revis chose the Jets and money over taking less and likely winning more here. It is what it is. I hope they go 5-11.

What I find interesting is the numbers we heard the last two days ($40M Guaranteed) $48M for 3 years is essentially what he got from NY. They added two years to help spread out the bonus for the cap hit. Those numbers were reported while he was under contract to the Patriots.
Well it turned out to be $39m though, not $40, so no tampering!

Honestly appreciate the "discount" he played for in 2014, 1-for-1 in terms of winning Super Bowls with Revis on the team, but if this is how he does business (and really...we knew this) then good riddance. He's earned the right to spend the twilight of his career as a Jet if that's what he wants.

My hatred for the jests is even more
but they can give us fits. The qb looked like a pro bowler last year and that was having revis

Let's be honest. EVERYONE tampers. Revis isn't gone because the Jets tampered. Revis is gone because the Patriots refused to guarantee big money for a HOF corner. Sickening how we go through this every single freakin' year. The core foundation of this team is never stable.
But we have been to 9 AFC Championships, 6 SB's and won 4 titles.

We have done this through fiscal discipline. You may not like it at this time each year, but it is what creates our continued success.

Revis was a hell of a player but put him in the Bledsoe, Milloy, Law, McGinist, Branch, Mankins, Samuel, Moss category of no one man puts us in cap pergatory.

For 15 years of my 22 year season tickets I have seen one big game after another every year. The other seven I rooted for 1st downs. I'll trust BB

I have a question for you guys, what time do you think this was taken? Sunset now is about 5-5:30ish. It is bright outside. How long does it take to negotiate a contract with all the numbers and have it signed. Including Revis already being in New York?

He's not wearing a watch. I wonder if he removed it.

Make no mistake about it. If Robert Kraft pulled this exact same stunt….people would be calling for Gillette Stadium to be burned to the ground and the Patriots kicked out of the league.

You know the same way people wanted the Patriots kicked out of the Super Bowl because the weather outside caused the air in our footballs to drop a few ticks.

You know the same way people were outraged that the Falcons blatantly cheated and piped in crowd noise and admitted it…oh wait.

You know the same way people were dismayed with the Browns were illegally texting from the owners box to the field….oh wait.

The double standard is pathetic. In general, I think the harmless statement by the Jets owner didn’t effect much, but that’s not the point. The point is the laughable double standard the fans of this league have.

You know what they say, they hate us cause they ain’t us. And the lowly Jets will never be us.

I agree with the OP that this is the worst most blatant tampering the league has ever seen and it was done in public at a press conference so what is there to "look into" from the leagues point of view. This deserves swapping firsts but with that being the number 6 pick that will never happen. People are sick of the Patriots winning and will do whatever they can to make it happen less. Now if the roles were reversed I am sure the Jets would receive the number 6 pick outright. I would be ecstatic if they swap seconds but realistically expect swapping 4ths as it is a major player and woody had already been warned. The sad part is while I would be disgusted it would not surprise me if this is swept under the rug as an "oops"

The most disappointing thing about this thread is the timing. Seriously, where was this thread when the tampering first occurred? I've been demanding a 1st round draft swap since day one. Now that Revis is gone we see this thread? Shameful! Absolutely Shameful! Now that Revis is with the Jets I want a 1st round draft swap this season, and a 1st round draft swap next season.

I have been saying this since it happened.

Don't underestimate this. However "innocent" it seemed, it sent a message to the Revis camp that they were interested in bringing him back. It can reasonably be assumed that Revis's agent soft-pedaled talks with the Pats until he could hear what the Jets might offer. The tampering was obvious.

If Jetdell does not punish the Jets for tampering I am literally going to curl up in a ball and laugh myself to death over the sheer absurdity.

Nice knowing you all.

This is not a BB move. This is the Kraft's. No doubt in my mind that BB is pissed off right now. Darrelle Revis is a game changing defensive player. You pay top dollar for game changing HOF caliber players who play critical positions.
The contract Revis signed (forget the 70 mil, its about the guaranteed money) was actually quite a good deal for the Jets. This would not have been a cap pergatory deal for the Patriots in any way. That's what is so maddening about it. Letting this one player walk impacts the entire D. Not only is the D-backfield weakened considerably but you'll see how exposed the lack of pass rush becomes without a great cover corner to buy them time.
Fiscal discipline is nice and should be practiced within the roster but remember one thing - Patriots have NEVER won a championship without an elite cornerback.

Where was everyone in 1996/97 Patriots are going to the Super Bowl and the headlines read Parcells going to the Jets. I was shocked at the time how blatant it all was, and the Jets had so little shame that they didn't even try to hide the tampering. The Jets have been involved in every aspect of all of the scandals aimed at the Patriots yet no one bats an eye. The NFL needs to be moved to LA and all Jets hacks removed!
The Pats were actually compensated pretty well for that.

The tampering team ultimately got the player their tampering targeted. The targeted player is a first-ballot HOFer.

How much more evidence does the NFL need before they act?

Does Revis have to literally set fire to Gillette Stadium on his way out before the league will actually take action?

Woody doesn't care....the punishment will be a slap on the wrist and low round picks...worth it to have revis back

You can't be this dumb. Can you? You're really gonna go with the Krafty Bob ********?

You're not that naive to think big ticket items don't require a Kraft seal of approval are you??

No, but I'm not stupid enough to think that Kraft would **** with a Revis deal over 4 mil in guaranteed money if Bill wanted it.

The Reason Woody Johnson did that was so he could get a message across to Revis and let him know he never wanted to trade him.
Revis hearing that softened on the Jets.
AKA TAMPERING.
They frickin signed him Come on Goodell the retribution needs to be value a second at least.
