Revis Signs with NYJ

Where does this come from? Butler makes one interception on a goal line, admittedly at a very important time, and now he can replace Revis? lol. I don't know what Butler can do. Maybe he can't do much of anything, or maybe he'll be really good. I definitely don't know right now just because he read one play.
I'm not just basing this on one play. Revis is unique and cannot be completely replaced, but Butler could prove to be a decent starting corner. He was the playmaker in camp, came from a small school and had to climb the highest to make the team. He was pushed ahead of Dennard on the depth chart. He can only be better next year. Remember where he came from. To have done what he has done in a single year is truly remarkable. Tons of upside.

Who do we sign now to replace Revis ? . I'm not upset anymore. I'm still a Patriots Fan. Always the name on the front of the Jersey and not the Back.

Well, it was nice having a competent secondary while it lasted. Now it'll be interesting to see what the Patriots offered.

I never believed Revis would return...it was always the NYJ. Thanks for the SB ring. Now, I DO have a problem with us giving Dmac what we did. No logical reason since we know our secondary without Revis sucks anyway. Mcourty isn't a game-changer without Revis. Right now our secondary is bottom 5 in the NFL, but It's March so we will see.

Why is he a idiot? He got his ring, now he went and got paid(again). Nothing wrong with that.

No, nothing wrong with that. I just thought he was a professional.

To me, a professional prides himself on certain things, including being part of a professional organization.

I felt uneasy when we signed Revis anyways. I sucked up my criticism, said in Bill we trust, and Revis was phenomenal. We won the Super Bowl. Now Revis is gone and I'm happy I won't worry about his fat paycheck while he's injured or holding out. We've seen top paid corners rise and fall with the Pats from Ty Law to Asante Samuel to Aquib Talib. We've won Super Bowls with Ellis Hobbs, Randall Gay, and Eugene Wilson --

It hurts me to say it, but corners are replaceable. Whether a corner is great or terrible it comes down to the refs' pass interference calls far too often. And with even the best corners they can't run through the referee in their way. The real money positions are in the trenches. Find the next Ted Washington/Vince Wilfork to bolster our line. We have cap space now.

I don't think the Jets get better overall by making any one 30 year old player the highest priced corner in history. Pats fans can feel proud the Pats likely drove up the price at least a bit beyond the additional suck-tax New York has to pay to bring people in.

Do the Pats even have the cap to withstand that huge front loading contract breakdown by manish mehta?
The Pats could have easily structured it differently with a smaller salary and a signing bonus prorated over the life of the contract. I don't think Revis cares whether he's getting more money in the form of a signing bonus or a guaranteed salary. He's not living paycheck to paycheck.

Bottom line, this hurts the Pats more than it helps the Jets. Thats what makes it so frustrating.

Looking at this year, we don't win the Super Bowl without Revis. If the Jets had Revis, they still suck.

Some of you are annoying with your complaints and asking what Bills plan is. Frankly you don't deserve to be a Patriots fan. How bout having some damn faith. It's obvious Revis is about the money he's got that doesn't mean we can't repeat.

I don't know how much cap we have but we should target Pot Roast and Cromartie. Cromartie us still a good CB1. Get Harvin/Halu on offense.

You sound like a *****.

**** them?
Horrible job?

Horrible fan, even if only for a night. It'd be great to have Revis again, sure. But for the money and guarantees involved, I can see why it's a tough call. For all we know the Pats tried to match that, or had something very comparable. I'll happily stick with whatever models BB has been using for roster construction for the past 15 years.
I'm a ***** who's been a fan for almost 40 years.

I think you have it backwards.

McCourty is the backbone of that D, and cleans up pretty good.

Revis can only cover half a field.

10 times out of 10, I would rather keep McCourty over Revis.

As an aside, how high is CB on the list of offseason priorities again now that they let Browner explore his options as well?

Apparently. The fact that the general tenor in this thread is one of positivity is frightening. The truth hurts.

Butler made the INT. That's making all the difference on the board.

Just because we are upset and complain doesn't make us non fans. It's tough to look at the Pats through rose colored glasses when they do this

With how things have shaped up and the helmets and stuff, this was staged. I don't think he wanted to be here for any discount. If he was going to stay in this cold weather town then we might have paid over 17m a year for him.

So true. Pat P in AZ is so over rated it hurts.

Just have no idea how we get a secondary that is believable by season start. Oh well, we won the big one, guess it's time to move on. Wonder what Brady thinks of this?

I think all of us can take solace in the knowledge that there is always a contingency plan in place.
