Revis Signs with NYJ

Am I the only one that sees this has nothing to do with the money? We never had a chance. Revis views NYJ as his home. Even last offseason, he wanted to go back there before coming here. 3 years/ 39 million guaranteed is an incredible manageable deal for a play of Revis's calibre.

Last year we were devastated when Talib signed with Denver. BB answered in 24 hours.

I'd love to think a similar answer happens this year, but I don't see it happening.

Sucks he's gone....... but the reality is that our team will continue to contend every year, while Revis goes to a team that won't. He will ultimately be always looked at as a "hired gun" that was only every seeking $$$. Thanks for the ring Revis, now run along and enjoy mediocracy. But hey, least you get a new pool with your mediocre team.

According to reports, this was supposedly about the nature of the guarantees. I imagine the Pats at the very least wanted to split his salary if he landed on the IR.

If the reports are right, there's not really any excuse for letting him get away. However, "if" is a small word with enormous significance.

According to the reports, this is basically over a difference of $4m guaranteed, so the Patriots were quite willing to "overpay".
You are free to base your opinion off of vague media reports. The simple truth is that the Jets overpaid for Revis and the Patriots did not.

I think it's fair to blame Revis for a "paltry few million" just as easily . But his choice, his character was plain for all to see, we just didn't want to believe it.

I've never seen a million dollars in my life, so I'm not really sure who the "all" here you're talking about who think a few million dollars in their pocket is no big deal.

Superstars make a difference. Revis was the difference between a top defense and a below-average one.
Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are and were more important to the Patriots than Revis. Losing Revis sucks but I trust there's a plan.

Really, Revis used the Patriots to inflate his contract and potentially get a ring. I'm fine with that because the Pats got a ring and the Jets are significantly overpaying him. He also tipped his hat with I'm coming home so as far as I'm concerned, he's now the enemy.

According to Breer:

Yikes, that's too much, I don't care how good he is. Contracts like that are why the Jets are the Jets.

I know we're supposed to wish him well now, but he's a Jet, so I'm not going to do that. Adios, hope he enjoys watching the playoffs from his couch, and I hope his contract becomes an albatross that the Jets can't get out of.

FWIW, I'm high on Marcus Peters in the draft. I think he could be really good right away.

You hear it all the time. "It's a business". Because it is. This is a league where you'll be traded or cut with zero empathy from owners and GMs. Revis tore his ACL and bet on himself the last few seasons... now it's paid off. Good for him.
Agreed. I would be a huge hypocrite if I was mad at Revis for taking more money, and especially more guaranteed money. Because we've had a number of players that I've thought we should release because I didn't think that they where worth what they where paid. Can't sit and say that I want the team to go for the money, and then get mad at player for doing the same thing.

Pats could and should have matched that deal. WTF is the front office thinking.

So why can the Jets do it? Because their goal isn’t to chase championships; it’s to placate their increasingly frustrated fanbase and make headlines. They were willing to blow their cap to smithereens if it meant getting Revis back so they could sell Revis Island t-shirts and distract their public from the fact they are directionless and their owner is a lucky-spermer dope. While the Patriots are trying to keep their salary cap house in order so they can stay competitive

I'm pretty pissed. If 3yr/40 mill guaranteed was all it was going to take to sign him, then they seriously dropped the ball here.

From the way things have turned out, we were better off picking up Revis' option.

More so than this, why Browner was released is probably the most mind boggling move of this entire off-season so far....

These dislikes are honestly hilarious. You people glad that we isn't sign Revis or something????

Yeah, we don't need him. BB is a genius, we won the Super Bowl last year and everything is awesome!!!!!

Hey, good idea. That was so funny and witty I just might do it!

Ignore the ostriches. They're every bit as ridiculous as the Chicken Littles.

I've never seen a million dollars in my life, so I'm not really sure who the "all" here you're talking about who think a few million dollars in their pocket is no big deal.

It's not a few million dollars relative to our current personal situations, I think we all agree that's a huge amount of money.

Edit: I'll continue to be the type of person to have respect for government prosecutors, doctors working in third world countries, and the occasional teacher for the financial sacrifices they make so they can experience something meaningful. But at the same time I won't blame someone for chasing money, I just won't respect them for it.

Hey, all I can say is I would have taken that deal. Thank you for giving us one good year of solid CB play and your help in winning a SB.
