He's a 29 year old corner who will be 30 before the season starts. $40 million guaranteed on a 3 year $48 million contract basically guarantees that the entire last year has to be picked up (unless his leg falls off).

Show me the 30 year old corners in this league who are getting this kind of deal.

Soon to be 27 year old Richard Sherman is getting $40 million guaranteed on 5 years $59 million

Soon to be 26 year old Joe Hayden is getting $45 million guaranteed on 6 years $72 million

Revis is better than both of those guys and I highly doubt his play would be substantially worse at 32 years old than it was last year...

I know I am in the minority. Don't think Revis should make more per year cap hit than Brady.

Brady left a lot of money on the table to take less to win. Have to pay 53 serviceable players. To have a player come in for one year and make more than your Franchise seems to go against any leverage on future negotiations

He is a big piece of the puzzle but have learned not to to hyped about losing a player because of becoming fiscally un disciplined.

I know. He is great. But it took Brady to throw 4 TD's against the best Defense to win a SB. That Revis defense was far from shutdown.

He makes our defense very good. Allows us to be extremely versatile. But Brady makes 14 mil against the cap. That should be his limit

I guess some are okay with reverting to a defense that would allow any JAG of the week to light up the secondary. Good corners don't grow on trees and it looks like two are walking out the door.

Anyone find it strange that all has been quiet?

Quiet? 22 pages in a NEWS ONLY thread started a bit over four hours ago, with no actual news in it?

Personally I wish it was a lot quieter....

As Arrington admirers, you have explained why he was beaten repeatedly by the tall third stringer. Please tell me why they benched him when he was no longer covering that receiver. Apparently the only receivers he can cover are smurf slot receivers.

Unless your goal is to make iapatsfan and pastrdumbazz look intelligent.....I really don't get why you are trying to make yourself out to be an unmitigated buffoon.

Seriously, you really look that unbelievably stupid.

Thanks for the advice. When I need advice from an idiot I will keep you in mind. Apparently none of his supporters can eplain why Arrington is underrated. All I know is that he can't be trusted to c over anybody in the superbowl.

No, he isn't better than both of those guys and he certainly isn't worth significantly more money per year than both of these guys.

So you're telling me that if you had the choice of any of these guys, you would pick the Revis deal over the Sherman and Hayden deals?

The problem is that we don't have the opportunity to sign either Sherman or Hayden nor are likely to have a high enough draft choice to get a cornerback of that caliber.

Cap size is cap size. It can be used on other players for your team to make it better. There is a value to each position. It makes no sense to overpay for a position when it will weaken your overall team.

Since this is a Revis thread I guess this is the place to say I do NOT want Revis back if it means
PATS will take a 12M+ Cap hit. I still can remember games where I was saying to my self
"Is this really the best CB in the league?" One game he gave up three passes to a WR that wasn't top tier.
Then, should the best CB let the ref take him out of a play that ends in a TD in a super bowl?
Remember him looking at the ref sort of saying " You got in my way, you're the reason for this TD".
I don't think BB let him off the hook for that one.

Hey Revis is a great CB but there has to be a point where he is asking too much. Some think if PATS don't
get Revis back PATS secondary will suck. I disagree. It won't be as good as it was with Revis but PATS have
young guys who have a lot more experience now and should be a lot better next season. Also without
Revis' big cap hit we may get a CB that can help fill the void plus a few FA's that will improve other areas
of the defense.

You are correct in theory but in reality there are positions you over pay not just because they are important in their right but because they have an impact on the overall offense or defense. The positions are quarterback, right defensive end, left tackle and shutdown cornerback. Revis is the linchpin of the entire defense because he allows the Pats to play more aggressive schemes with him covering the best receiver man to man. It also permits McCourty to play center field and assist the other cornerback. In addition, the drop off to the other cornerbacks on the roster is significant. Does anybody really want Arrington as your number one cornerback. Economize elsewhere.

So it looks like no deal will be made tonight? Going to bed if that is the case. Hopefully tomorrow a deal will be made early.

Revis to Jets! Schefter and Rapoport both tweeted

NFL network just reported revis to jets :(
