$40 million guaranteed for a 30 year old CB with prior knee surgery?
Not comfortable with that at all.
If you mean $40 million guaranteed for a 29 year old corner, coming off one of his best years, who is clearly a great fit for the team and dramatically improves the Pats defense...then lets just say I strongly disagree with that assessment.

Revis still wants his $16m/yr. No discount to the Patriots.

Revis is back to old self: Highest bidder wins.

Don't blame him. This is business.

There are few NFL players out there that are loyal...

But, if Patriots lose BOTH CBs, we are back to less-than-average CBs, and our chances of getting back to SB has dropped, significantly..

We don't know that. Apparently the Pats current offer is pretty well below this one. Revis has indicated he is willing to stay on a very MINOR discount according to various sources i have read over the week.

I think that is probably true but if the Pat are at 35M they need to bridge that. Up to 38 or 39 and I think he stays and leaves 1-3M on the table.

Again, according to all the tweets we have seen it is not so much about the money but about potential exits for the Patriots from his contract. In other words, it is doubtful that those 35M+ are really fully guaranteed.

I am sure that if BB & Co, were comfortable to hand out a 35M+ contract fully guaranteed then there would be no discussion about 3-5m more.

You mean explain to you why a 6'5" guy caught a ball thrown up high over a 5'10" corner?
Let me clarify. we have established the fact that he couldn't cover the tall receiver and Browner was switched to cover him. Please explain why Arrington was not left on the field to cover the receiver Browner previously covered. As I said before , getting benched in the biggest game of your career, is not representative of being a valuable player.

Anyone find it strange that all has been quiet? If revis to the jets was a done deal I would think the contract would already be signed

The longer it is quiet the better for the patriots?

I would agree. The longer this goes the better. The Pats have 1 main deal to get the done. The Jets are sitting on a lot of cash and good free agents are going off the board pretty fast.

The Pats and Revis are in less of a rush to get this done than the Jets are IMO.

I WANT Revis back, but I don't want them to do something stupid that will come back to bite them in the ass. If he goes out with an injury or his play declines due to age, we're pretty much f*cked.

Browns & Bills & Packers are still in it?

I would say yes. He is still giving them a chance to negotiate.

If we sign Revis to that deal and he goes down or declines we probably don't win the super bowl.

If we don't sign Revis we probably don't win the super bowl.

If sign Revis and he plays well we probably win the super bowl.

Those are my guesses.

Looks like to me we are better off taking a shot than not. If you have no key players to worry about you don't have a shot anyway. I would rather have the key players and have concerns about them.

I wonder if the delay is because Revis is considering a team he doesn't know a lot about.

Pats got a sweetheart deal for Revis last year; if anything, maybe they should have to pay MORE for him, but Revis is still allowing them to pay less than everyone else. If there's one time in BB's tenure where maybe he should consider making an exception to the disciplined approach, it would be right now. Revis is probably the difference between ring #5 and staying at 4. Not saying the Patriots won't compete and be great without him, but what a difference he makes against other powerful teams. I think if they sign him Bill and Brady become the best ever at their respective positions. Go out on a limb and make it happen. The guarantees are not as risky as fielding a second rate secondary.... this is your chance.

Including you whining about this thread.

inb4 someone says "including you whining about this thread."

edit: fuck, beat.

He's a 29 year old corner who will be 30 before the season starts. $40 million guaranteed on a 3 year $48 million contract basically guarantees that the entire last year has to be picked up (unless his leg falls off).

Show me the 30 year old corners in this league who are getting this kind of deal.

Soon to be 27 year old Richard Sherman is getting $40 million guaranteed on 5 years $59 million

Soon to be 26 year old Joe Hayden is getting $45 million guaranteed on 6 years $72 million

Yes, the same thing would happen if any elite player (say Brady) got injured. I somehow doubt that Revis play will decline in the next 3 years, in fact I would assume the opposite. Now 5 years removed from today I could see a drop in play from a 34 year old corner...

I want Bill and Bob to define "Hall of Fame" and by the way, still playing that way and then look at the peanuts in the difference between the entities. Lets see. that's $48m with $40 guaranteed. A back up (House) is signed and is now making $6mm plus!

In those words so eloquently used by Mr. Kraft...Bill and Bob... "What are you two guys? schmucks?!!!"
