For those taking about the $40m guaranteed, it should be noted that it's reported that the Patriots were willing to give guarantees into the mid-30s. I don't attest to the accuracy of any of these reports, but that's what's out there.

People are assuming way too much. They see these reports and act like Revis wants to go to NY. How do any of us know that? For all you know he's sick of moving around and wants to settle with a winner.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's just using the Jets as a pawn to get his prized Patriots deal. He is Aliquippa's finest businessman you know.

Brady should play for the vet minimum from now on, to help afford more players

*half kidding

Volin's wording ("outs in the contract") made it sound like the Pats aren't offering full guarantees. Could be something like $15M fully guaranteed and $20M in injury guarantees that become fully guaranteed year by year. That's significantly different than $40M fully guaranteed.

dangerous game of chicken...push a little too much and one side might do something they really don't want to out of spite.

It may not just be a 5 mil difference as everyone is saying. We might also have an injury clause in there that the Jets don't have.

Its funny to me how fans watch a franchise go through the best 15 run in NFL history, based mostly on discipline in everything they do, particularly personnel decisions, which said discipline creates transactions that otherwise couldn't be done if they lacked the discipline to hold the line on their convictions, and we sit here watching people freak over one decision and expect the Patriots to make the decision the Jets would.

Your post is rational and well thought out and makes a ton of sense. But sometimes even the healthiest person deserves a bit of chocolate cake.

Only thing i can guarantee right now is that Malcolm Butler will definitely be enrolling at the Darelle Revis School of Economics.

If theyre willing to do 35ish, then they may as well just call it 40

It's a pricey contract, but he's a game changer. First year in a long time I've had confidence when someone dropped back to pass on us.

The best part is he isn't an unknown. It's not like we're in a bidding war for a guy who may or not fit. There is no buyers remorse to be found here in terms of will he work with the team

Sorry to pee on your Cheerios but with Logan Ryan and Arrington as our starting corners we may not sniff the playoffs never mind a Super Bowl.

Lol we made the SB with Sterling Moore and Antwaun Molden as our CBs.

2011 disagrees with that.

Only way Jets can have Revis is if we can have their 6th pick................................... and Wilkerson :D

This is the sort of situation that's been building with the way owners have been treating players who finally get big contracts. Veterans are going to be demanding more and more of their deals being guaranteed, because they've seen too many of their fellow players get hosed with back ends that aren't seen, forced re-structures and the like.

My sources have informed me that Kraft was seen on the phone with Brady and was overheard saying 'How about another restructure'

More to follow.....

The fact that we are almost 2 and half hours removed from the new league year and haven't heard a report that Revis has accepted the Jets offer yet, is telling me there is some mulling and back-and-forth between him and the Pats going on. Otherwise he would have been a Jet by now.

I have a feeling that the longer this thing goes without hearing him accepting the Jets offer, is better for us.

We don't know what has really been discussed.
It seems clear that NEP are letting Revis see what the market is, while keeping an open dialog to potentially match it.

If you were Revis, it would be a smart strategy so far -- don't agree to anything yet, keep letting more teams get in on the frenzy, try to push up prices, while seeing how high the Pats will go in terms of matching.

This could go on for a few days easily...
a stare down for the ages. Two of the best negotiators.

$48m with $40m guaranteed...

Pay that but add 4th year at 12n?
THIS is the WR that makes sense if you want to Jettison Amendola.

He's the only one on the market who isn't a clone/downgrade to DA. Now, he might bust, but the talent is unquestionably there for him to become a MAJOR target in McDaniels' offense.

This is a high risk game of poker getting the jets to cut percy harvin because they think they have a chance at revis. BB will then swoop in and sign harvin and revis. While the jets will sit there wandering what happened and left only with a strengthened tampering case. You will all be calling BB a genius when the deals are done...and you heard it from me first.
