Shane Vereen to sign with Giants

I liked Vereen but the pats don't like to break the bank for the running back position. I wish him well in NY. I think Helu would be a good replacement.
I would love it if we got Helu, different kind of running back, runs hard, big, strong back (5'11" 215) with 4.4 speed, and good receiver.

HUGE Loss no matter what anyone says.

Yes sucks to see him go but people were saying that after Faulk went down in 2010. Then the Pats picked up a jests reject named Danny Woodhead. Then Danny Woodhead left and people said that was a huge loss. Then Shane Vereen quieted those people.

You get the idea.

Helu 42 catches for 477 yards..10 less catches than Vereen, but 30 more yards.

There must have been a reason to draft James White, so we will find out soon enough. He was supposed to have good hands and be a good/willing blocker for his size.

In a terrible offensive situation and behind a cowbell running back. Great offense here and there is no true cowbell in the Pats system.

I'm going to miss Shane. Wish him the best.

Cya in the Super Bowl...

can't blame players making under 5m to try to get the most they can...now players making 14-16m?..well....

Thanks for the good games, Shane and playing like a Super Bowl Champion when you needed to.

Time to move on Helu, Bush or Thomas...or White?

8yrs ago we played NFCEast played/Giants Won SB.
4.yrs ago we played NFCEast played/Giants Won SB.
This year we play NFCEast and NOT this time, REPEAT after me SB50 Champs!
Sorry Shane.

Good for him. Might only get one shot as a RB for a big payday, better take it. He had a good career here and a hell of a Super Bowl, really just behind Tom and Edelman as the names you think of in regards to the success the offense had in that game. Class act, will miss him, but the loss makes sense for both sides.

Best of Luck Shane. I will miss him...

Fully expected this, and I can live with it.

Came up big when it really counted. Good luck to him in NY.

The big part of the Vereen loss is his blocking and blitz pickup ability. IMO
We said the same thing when Faulk was all done ...

and Vareen slid right in and someone else will or we would have paid Vareen to stay.

He was a projected 7th rounder/priority FA. Never understood why they took him in the 4th.

Helped us put up banner #4, and his one handed grab to jumpstart the final drive was huge - so I'm grateful for that. Of course, now that he plays for the Giants, I wish him no further success on the football field.
He'll need to work on those one handed catches with Eli throwing him the ball and not TFB.......

Not a big White fan, so I hope we pick some vet up. Right now the top 3 on my list are Helu, Bush, and Thomas. If they can pass block, they would be an adequate replacement for Vereen.

I would have loved to have had him back, but this was not a good cap year for paying market prices for situational skill players. You can't keep everyone, and fortunately the Pats lost a player at a position that could be the most well stocked in the league.

Just a thought. IIRC Josh Boyce was known in college for his YAC. Since Vereen was 70-30 more a receiver than RB, how about shifting Boyce to RB and let him see what he could do there. Right now he seems stuck behind Edelman and DA
