Patriots allow Brandon Browner to explore value around the NFL

I saw this coming but I hate it. There's plenty of other ways to free up money than moving our size and intimidator in the secondary.

This better be a trade and we better be getting something really good back.

i feel the same way. browner seemed to really enjoy him time with the pats, he clearly wants to be here yet he has to be sacrificed for revi$.

If we get a 2nd rounder then BB is a god. That second rounder is the 34th pick in the draft. I doubt we got that for Browner.

Good lord...no one is giving us a 2nd round pick for Browner--like you said. I think we'd hope for a 4th, but would have to prepare for a 5th.

People around here are constantly overvaluing NFL trades.

Browner's $2M Option

Was it picked up?

Browner's $2M Option

I seriously think that as everything related to the next league year it has to be picked up today (Tuesday) before 4pm.

Otherwise somebody would have said something already..

Wow, Supa, I can't believe you forgot about the pair of 2nd round picks we got from Houston for Ryan Mallet, I thought you were smarter!

Maybe Belichick is just a big Kanye West fan and didn't appreciate Browner going at him on twitter.
Nah, that's why he gets to shop his value and ask for a raise. Nobody likes that punk.

Browner's $2M Option

Yeah, isn't the decision of whether or not to pick the option up what all the fuss is about? I thought it was pretty much their sole reason for allowing him to seek other offers, as they decided what to do by Tues at 4pm.

It would seem odd, not to mention pointless to me that they'd have picked up the 2m dollar option and then let him field offers from other teams.

I suspect that they will pick up the option if they are that concerned about Revis moving on. They aren't likely to let both guys walk away in my opinion.

Not to get too far off topic, but the ironic thing is that he was actually viewed as an underdog story who made his own path and conquered the obstacles in the music industry. I know that this is going to be an unpopular comment, but he actually showed talent (as far as "talent" goes in that particular industry), hard work, and perseverance. Hell, he made a hit song while his mouth was still wired shut from a car accident.

......and then came the fame, the string of #1 albums, and all of the attention, and he totally ruined his business and marketing plan by acting like an over the top and outrageous d-bag. Now everyone basically hates him, which totally overshadows any creativity and talent that he still has. Had he simply kept his mouth shut, smiled, and nodded, he seriously could have completely dominated the industry for 20+ years.

Such is the life of a douchebag, I suppose! ;)

As far as the decision to pick up the 2m dollar option on Browner goes, I expect that the team will have a better idea of what's happening with the Revis negotiations when they have to decide by 4:00 pm this afternoon.

I'd have a hard time seeing them allow BOTH corners walk away for better offers, but that's obviously just my opinion.

You mean that the refs called fewer penalties in the playoffs. I don't think Browner's style of play changed any.

BTW, I'm fine with Browner's style of play.

I don't think that's what I mean. In that post, I mentioned the Patriots were whistled 5.75 times per game in the regular season and 5.66 in the play-offs. It's "technically" less, but not significantly so. The Seahawks were whistled 4.37 times per regular season game and 5 times per game in the play-offs. And while it seems like they called fewer in the Super Bowl, the Patriots were whistled 5 times while the Seahawks had 7.

I really do like Browner. I just think BB would have changed the price offered if he knew about the rule changes. With the old rules, Browner could guard a lot more people because he could make up for a lot of it with physical play. With the rule changes, there were more receivers that caused a bad match-up for him. I don't see why people dislike that comment. It's true. Was he able to do more before the rule changes? Yes. Doesn't make him useless. I love him and hope he stays in NE because of the edge he brings. But we have to be more careful with him in match-ups than we initially thought because he was signed in the spring and the rules changed in the summer.

I agree this sounds more like a cash dump by the pats and just hoping to get something for noting, if it was me I would not bring back revis at lest not if it means cutting guys like Browner and Mayo and also not signing a single FA cause that's what will happen if they pay Revis 16 million

Now that Peyton Manning is toasted and might not even make the playoffs is there any chances of NFL revoking these ridiculous emphasis rules they created to help him after the embarrassment that was his last SB performance? Don't tell me they didn't do that to help him, it was blatant.

I agree supafly. I can't fathom them letting both corners walk. Other good corners have already been snapped up, so they wouldn't have much of a fallback option if both Revis and Browner left. I think they have good depth - Ryan, Dennard, Arrington, and Butler can all be, at times, effective. But none of them are of the Browner/Revis quality (and there's obviously a huge gap between Browner and Revis). So you could probably make do if you lost one of them, but not both. It would be a gigantic step back for the defense.

Playing with a great secondary this past year just reminded me how crucial in today's game it is to have a dominating defensive backfield. You gotta be strong there. We can't lose both Revis and Browner. Just can't.

wow shows how terrible volin is. Guy actually goes on radio and brings up the twitter thing. I get if you make a mention of it on your own twitter but going on sports radio and bringing it up just shows how terrible he is as a beat guy.
