McCourty to stay with Patriots!

The fact that the Steelers of all teams, no longer want Polamalu any longer, tells me all I need to know.
He's a major liability in coverage and a major freelancer.

He can provide strength as a hybrid LB/S who plays close to the line and is physical with his run support, but I think we already have that with Patrick Chung.
They dont want to pay him to be a starter and who could blame them?

What's the deal with Chung by the way? Are we keeping him or looking to upgrade with a younger player maybe? My opinion of him changed drastically last season, I think he's a very good player now.

The players around him and more specifically the scheme they enable put him in advantageous situations. Teams still actively tried to isolate him once they got past the 50 last year and did so successfully, but a lot of his weaknesses were hidden due to surrounding talent and scheme.

Somewhat, but if you think about it our marquee signings would be retaining most of our players.

Revis is obviously the wild card.

If we wittle away through this FA period and get Solder locked into a deal, Mayo, Amendola and even Arrington to restructure, I like Hoo-man but think he's a cap-casualty and bring back some guys like Casillas, Connolly, Branch and Ridley. I think guys like Wilfork, Ayers and Vereen are probably out of our reach and someone will severly overpay for their services, but realistically, our biggest moves may simply be keeping what we have and infusing good depth to replace the losses.

I'd rather be in the spot we're in now than having a (pick your perrenial loser) roster with lots of money to spend.

When you have the QB, the train keeps rollin'. And even at 38 this coming year I still think the fire is alive. I hope he takes it a little easier this offseason, though. He looked a little haggard in the post SB interveiws.

This season drained his soul some between the early season struggles and the end of the year BS gate-crap. Week 5 until after the AFCCG he was GOD. He was the master Jedi at the end of the SB, but you could ttell he was drained.

I'm fine with re-signing players and little more. I was thinking more about the hyperventilating that seems to be a constant murmur in this forum from a minority.

he Eagles were willing to pay more than the Patriots were, and the team made it clear they would top the Patriots' offer of five-years, $47.5 million that the free agent reportedly signed.

With that in mind, McCourty was close to picking the Eagles, and had he not picked the Patriots, he would be on his way to Philadelphia despite interest from both the Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ultimately, however, the McCourty gave the Patriots a hometown discount (despite the fact he is from New York) to the Patriots.

I really hate to say this, but I think Revis is gone. He has his sb now and I think this satisfied him for awhile. Just speculation but I'm not confident Revis will be back
So winning one means life is over and it's time to chill. Trust me success breeds success and with that comes hunger. If there 's one thing Revis has gained being around Brady every day it's DESIRE.

Good breakdown. That's why i was suggesting the Pats might look at upgrading if they can because if you were to pick out a weak link in this exceptional secondary then it would have to be Chung but with that said i still think he's very good now so have no problems going forward with him.

Did the new CBA change the rules at all, @ctpatsfan77?

If Miguel states that Jamie Collins cannot be extended this season, it would seem as though something has changed since the early extensions of Gronk/AHern---unless Miguel is referring to this particular free agency period and he is eligible after 2 years have gone by since he originally signed his rookie deal?

I'm not sure either way, which is why I am asking. Or was the new CBA signed the summer earlier, in 2011? (I think it was, now that I think about it).

The new rules specifically applied only to rookies signed in 2011 or after. GRONK et al. were grandfathered under the rules in effect at the time (which allowed renegotiations after two years).

LOL remember when they used to debate who was better out of Ed Reed or Polamalu. That was laughable, Reed was as textbook and elite as you could get at the safety position. Troy is like a gambler at the casino betting on red or black all the time = wins big sometimes and loses big sometimes. Never want a player like that.

Thank you for the information. Much appreciated! That certainly makes a lot of sense then.

It would of been brutal to watch my hometown team Eagles with Mccourty they would of instantly became my second team which wouldnt of gone over very well because my wife and all her immediate family are Cowboy fans.

It's a very bad time to be a Polamalu fanboy. Nothing wrong with liking the guy, but he has close to nothing left, so you're probably gonna be alone on this issue.

Assumed it was the Eagles as I didnt think Jags made much sense from a winning perspective. Giants I could see too.
Think its obvious in Philly that Chip believes he can make his own offense and wants a stout defense.

There's the Mariota issue too. One theory is that the Eagles wanted to get as many FAs signed up as possible so they can trade their draft (and next years too presumably) to trade up for Mariota.

I'd buy that. Team solidified with proven starters and gamble away picks on Mariota fitting into the system. What Chip does in Philly almost seems as if he's in a different league to the other 31 teams playing a different way. Mariota could only be successful year one in his offense and no where else IMO. Jameis is going to make Cam's rookie year look silly too. He's got Evans and VJax to throw to and they'll get some more weapons for him too.

Certainly looks like James is going to Tampa. Jason Braddock is reporting that 49ers have put Kaepernick on the block so any team trading down with the Iggles could still get their QB with their nice new bounty of draft picks and still come out ahead. Have no idea what the 49ers are planning to do at QB though.
