Brandon Marshall to the Jets

None of the AFCE moves worry me at all. Marshall is irrelevant with Geno overthrowing him by ten yards. Harris? Lol.

If the Phins sign Suh and lose their other dlinemen...slightly better than a wash. His usual cheap shot bs would worry me, but his impact twice a year against us (especially with upgraded talent inside next to stork) would be pretty minimal.

And then there are the bills...who just traded a talented young lb for a 10 MILLION DOLLAR, AGING, HIGH MILEAGE "SHIFTY" RECEIVING BACK FOR REX RYANS GROUND AND POUND 70S STYLE OFFENSE. That said, if Rex enters this millennium, and simply asks his qb to take what is available with their decent wr corps, a respectable tell, and a pads catching threat rb...maybe they have some success. A game manager should be successful with that defense.

marshall is a heck of a wr, wish brady was throwing to him...people saying this is not a good trade for the
jets are nuts...a 5th rounder?.

He's gonna love that offense lol. Dude won't last a week before a major outburst.

Group A: This sucks cause a rival just got a great player and we're doing nothing.

Group B response to Group A: This has happened year in and year out and the Patriots always find a way to compete even if they don't rake in the prize FAs. You're just chicken littles!

Group C: Why is everyone in group B saying this is a **** move! You're just homers!

Getting Marshall is a fine move for the Jets. If he can keep it together he'll improve their passing game. I'm also not going to press the panic button because we do this same stupid dance every year.

Like I said before. Groundhog Day.

This^

It's almost impossible to discuss other teams moves on this board. There seems to be 2 types of posters on this board, people that are Patriots fans (homers, Patriots can do no wrong, every team sucks except the Patriots, etc.) and people that are Patriot/NFL fans.

Fact: The Jets are better today than they were yesterday. BMarsh is an upgrade over Harvin. BMarsh + Decker is a nice combo. Yes, the Jets don't have a QB. They can draft a QB. They can trade for a QB. It's a good move for the Jets.

I don't care how people are trying to spin this, getting Marshall for a 5th round pick is a great trade. Thankfully, the Jets still lack a QB and CBs to really make a difference.

I agree. And they have about $50M (and the 6th pick in the draft) to use to fill the positions at QB and CB.

We might or not pay $20M a year for McCourty and Revis. Maybe the jets are willing to spend $25M.

Miami got Mike Wallace last year. They were 8-8. Just like the year before.

It's a bit early to be worrying about which teams are getting better.

I agree until they get a QB. Do you think they are targeting Mariota in the draft and could he even help them this year? My feeling on the Jests is they get a QB, throw him in there too soon, mess him up in the head, then get the next guy a few years later.

The question is how we fans will feel when they sign McCourty or Revis plus another top corner, a vet quarterback AND draft Mariota. That would leave them only $25M to deal with their additional roster issues.

All agree that one player won't make much of a difference. All the jets have done is swapped WR's. We'll see what they do with their $50M of cap room.

Aren't he and Decker the same guy?

Aren't he and Decker the same guy?

Not really. Both outside guys, but Decker is more possession-focused (think a Deion Branch type) and Marshall is more downfield, tall, lanky, dynamic receiver (think a much more talented version of Brandon Lloyd).

Really? I thought the days of Marshall being a burner were behind him? I guess not.

The AFC East, except the Patriots, have a collective obsession with has-been household names who are just starting the downside of their career either because of age or motivation (since these teams cash them out.) The Pats have had their share of former stars but typically at a very low risk, short term contract. The Bills, Jets, and Dolphins try to build their franchise through free agency. Bad idea. It shows.

Marshall had 60 receptions and 8 TDs last year while missing 3 games and playing for a disastrous football team. I get it, he plays for the Jets now so he's automatically bad... but he's not. Revis had a down year in Tampa and the Patriots signed him to a big contract last year. Very little difference here.

I don't think the way the Patriots and other teams build their teams is all that different, the Patriots just happen to have featured the best QB and head coach of all-time for the last 15 years.

Marshall just wanted to be close to NY Studio for his TV gig. Once Jets are out of it BM will lose interest and start Slammin Jets on his show. Should be interesting with Boomer on there when it happens.

There's really no way this can be construed as anything but a good move for the Jets. In one fell swoop they can jettison Harvin and his bloated contract, acquire Marshall, the superior player and all for mid round draft capital.

If the Jets start a competent QB or draft Mariota/Winston, this becomes a great move for the Jets. WR1. Marshall, WR2. Decker and TE1. Amaro. Assuming Chain Gailey learns that the NFL is a passing league, that's something to work with.

The JEST still suck, but they could be decent depending on their offseason:

1. Trade for Marshall
2. Sign Revis (please no)
3. Sign Hoyer
4, Draft Fowler

The AFC East could end up being a strong division.
I like Hoyer but he's not exactly a world beater

Yeah, because Harvin will not cost dead money against the cap, the Jets basically:

Swap out Harvin for Marshall + $2.5m in cap space
Swap out their own 5th and 6th round draft pick in order to keep their 4th round draft pick

I'm still waiting to see how that's bad.

Yeah, it's a rather un-Jets-likes move Deus. I do wonder if they'll let free agency play out a little more before making a trade for Jay Cutler.
