2015 Pro Days

Hey Scott99, Awesome video!. I was talking about Coates the football player not the person and ya i have seen a few interviews and he comes off/seems like a good dude. The thing i'm concerned about is trying to weed out the Taylor Prices', Dobson's, etc. Coates is bad ass athlete, but i think currently he isn't worth a 1st or 2nd and a couple showings ( combine/pro-day's ) were he may catch a few more balls doesn't mean much when he doesn't have defenders on him and isn't going at 100 mph like in a real game situation! He may have made positive progress these last couple months since the season's ended, but nothing is proven or means anything till he does it on the big stage!!. That's all i'm gettn at guys. I get he's fast, but i rather have a wr that's alil slower, but has the intangibles like high football iq, good route runner, can pick up a highly advanced offense system like the pats run. Bottom line there's alot more to it then just being a fast/bomb athlete.

The overly active and not to mention VERY MOUTHY , Hawianfan lol. Ahh no, i didn't. I live in cali and don't get much if any Auburn related coverage.. And if he caught a few balls at the pro-day doesn't mean a damn thing cuz in the actual games thru his college career he's been drops magoo! So until he does it consistently in ACTUAL GAMES THAT MATTER he'll keep the title of " Pan Hands " :) . I dunno why u come off with the attitude?.. I'm not the only one who said he has " Pan Hands " Pro scouts, NFL execs and people in general have said that because it's true guy. He maybe a hell of an athlete, but until he hones his craft ( Which is Wide Receiver = Catchn The Ball! ) he isn't worth a 1st or 2nd rd pick! We've had plenty drafted WR bust and don't need to continue the streak! Don't ya think?

"MOUTHY" ???

First things first, I was asking you a legitimate question. He had some very blatant drops today.
I agree that he has "pan hands" I actually heard the phrase used in regards to Coates, on here a few weeks ago, from another member and thought it was hilarious, because it is literally the perfect way to describe all is blatant drops.
let me remind you, you criticized me before you had any idea of what I was actually talking about. If anything you're the "mouthy" one.

My bad Hawaiian, I apologize bro. I wasn't being serious and misunderstood u. I'm chill no drama guy! Hope u understand again my bad. Apologies bud :). I read it and thought you were trying to be a smart azz.

I understand what you are saying. I'm just saying the drops can be fixed. Jerry Rice had a lot of drops as a rookie, and wound up probably the greatest receiver of all time. Another former 49er receiver, Terrell Owens had drop problems, became a great receiver. And as in my prior comment, David Givens became one of Brady's most trusted receivers from 2003-2006, after a lot of drops as a rookie in 2002. Drops can be corrected, speed and explosiveness can't be taught. Hell, there is a video that says "catch of the year", and guess who it is making the catch ? Sammie Coates.

Not saying he won't be a bust, but if BB personally worked out the guy, and seems VERY interested, Coates wouldn't be a horrible draft pick.

Its all good man. Me too, not really one for drama, however I don't mind a decent debate/ discussion. That probably why I'm on here too much. lol
Apology accepted :)

Thats because he was introduced to stickum after his rookie season. Whahaha

Its not that coates doesn't have potential, I just think he doesn't fit in where the team will be looking for a WR this year. If he were going a little later, say the 3rd round, it might make sense. Seeing we took Dobson in the 2nd only two years ago, coupled with the fact that reports are saying he's working very hard to try to have a rebound year, I just don't see the coates pick really happening. My instincts tell me Bill was throwing up the smoke screen for Nick Marshall.

A little article about Dobson training down in AZ. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/...2015/02/determined_aaron_dobson_gets_physical

Thx for being cool bout it Hawaiian! Bro i'm home sick and bored outta my mind n i've been on here and i read your post and just started writing lol not smart to do haha. U do get some good debates going i'll give ya that lol. Keep the pats love stong brotha! :)

Haha, I feel you man. This is just a little internet community of opinion. Not worth me getting upset over, or no need to take things to heart, that would just be silly and unnecessary. lol
Where in the west coast are you living? Hopefully not Seattle, although I must admit, it would probably be pretty pleasurable walking around in a Butler jersey there :) lol

I agree with ya Scott that Coates has alotta potential, but a 1st or 2nd rounder??.. That's what scares me because he does have the drops, very raw route runner, and he wasn't super productive in college aside from i think one season in 2013 and anything besides that was nothing great. Ya know and take all that i've stated already and throw our offense system on top of that and that alone can be cause to bust much less adding needing to improve on the drops, route running, and just becoming a all round better ball player! I get guy's like Rice, Owens, and other well known's have had issues and overcome them, but with the guy's like Rice and Owens they had that " It " factor and you just got the feeling that they had it in them to overcome those issues. Plus i don't think they had issues with route running, being really raw all around.. I know those can be easily overcome for some, but stack that on top of the other issues and for most that can be wayyyy too much.

Hell no to Seattle!! lol. I live in southern cali. I am from Canada and then lived in Massacusetts when i was younger then relocated to cali. I have family in the New England area still. You must be living it up in Hawaii!.. I know i would. Where ya stay out there bro? My ex gf lives in Seattle and i'm going out there this coming summer and u already know i will be reppn with my #12 Brady jersey and maybe by that time i'll have added a #21 Butler jersey to my collection as well ;)

Yeah, forget Seattle! Well I'm from Oahu, born and raised here. I spend a lot of time in Cali myself. Moving to LA for a few months before I move out to SF for another year of school this summer. Hawaii is nice, but when you grow up here it gets a little old. Imagine not being able to leave the Boston area without catching at least a 5 hour flight, your entire childhood. lol

Hell i don't need Boston to know how that is. I have good ol LAX and i travel often for work and i've waited for several hrs on end!! I know what ya mean bout places getting old. People think LA is cool but after the first 6 mths the new excitement factor wears off and then it's nothing but stuck up people, hellish traffic, and robbery without a gun everywhere ya go! lol. What school r u goin to?.. I went to school back east ( Michigan/Played hockey ) wish i woulda gone to a big cali college :(..

I agree with you in every aspect of this. He's just not a good fit at this current time, and just not really a good fit for the Patriots. The only WR I think we might have a slight chance, and would be worth taking in the first in Jaelen Strong. For most of the year I didn't like strong as a good fit for Patriots, or as a prospect. Then he showed up to the combine and killed it. That got me looking into him a little more, which lead me to fall in love with him. Very good receiver, who has put up against some of the better CB prospects in this years draft. Some scouting reports call him "raw and still learning to play the position" That is the kind of raw id be willing to take, not Coates raw. Everyone keeps taking about DGB cause he's 6'5. What they don't realize is strong is a much better athlete in ever aspect besides being 3 inches shorter.

Bro couldn't agree more!! I have been pro Strong for the last few mths! I think he has the " Patriot Vibe " and just by what i've seen him do in college and in the combine i think he would be the best fit wide receiver pick outta this years class at the position we are pickn at. If we had our pick of any WR i'd go for Cooper because of the Saban/BB connection, pro style type offense they run and he seems real genuine/humble guy in his interviews that i have seen. Everyone is downplaying the wr position/need and all caught up in the Ol position. I get it's a top 3 need yes, but we JUST WON THE SB! and this year we should be able to take BPA and not go for a need rite away with our first pick. Offensive linemen can be had in the 3rd round and on that are good/effective n do the job! I mean look @ Stork and his first yr production and he was drafted in the 4th rd! I think if Strong is there @ 32 we gotta take him!! Everyone is stuck on BB never takes a WR in the first rd, well ok that's cool but this is a new chapter coming off a SB victory and hell maybe he will suprise everyone and we'll get a stud WR ( Jalen Strong! :) ) Time to start a new trend n try something different! :)

Just because BB shows interest and probably respects him as a person and player doesn't mean he'll be our top pick. I remember Tebow and him having a very public dinner in the north end.... with Tebow holding a football on the corner at the end Of it if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think he'll be a top pick for BB. If he has interest in Coates it's probable in the 64-96 range.

Raheem Mostert is a RB/KR at Purdue. Had his pro day today

5-11, 190

4.32 forty
20 BP
40" Vert
11' Broad
6.90 3cone
4.32 SS

Wasn't productive on offense at Purdue but was a good kick returner. Would be a special teamed/development guy only. An athletic one mind.

Nelson Algohor is or would be an interesting pick. I read the other day that Coates dropped 19% of his targets this year. THat's not a slight case of the drops, that's just bad hands, bad hand to eye coordination, whatever. Not sure that can be fixed. Some people adjust to the ball well, others....not so much. Vereen has great hands...just a natural. Maybe some guys like Rice have great hands but dropped the ball because they were thinking too much as they were rookies...Coates I don't know, deal breaker for me.

BB was at the Clemson pro day today along with Lombardi. There are two DTs of note there:

1. Grady Jarrett. Benched 33 and ran 5.10

2. Josh Watson. 6-4, 290 according to bio. He benched 37 and ran in the 4.9s.

It's still too early, but interesting that of the three pro says that BB has attended, two of the teams have two DTs each, all in the mid to late rounds.

According to Tony Pauline, Ameer Abdullah ran a 4.50 at the Nebraska pro day. That's 0.10 quicker than the combine which ties in with Josh Robinson of Miss St. Improving his combine forty by 0.10 too.
