Patriots decline option on Wilfork - Vince is a free agent

Vince Wilfork announces on Twitter that the Patriots will not be picking up his 2-year team option. He is now set to be a free agent.

Damn sucks but Revis abd DMac are more important to the team at this point, hopefully this means they retain both. Also hope 75 comes back at some point, love the big guy.

Thank you Vince, for everything that you have done on and off the field for the Patriots. And thanks to his wife Bianca too. The Wilforks are a great family!

The writing has been on the wall, but this kind of stinks. Vince is one of my all time favorite Pats. Hopefully they can work something out and bring him back at a lower salary.

yup just saw this on NFLN. hopefully this is the prelude to Revis and McCourty being re-signed.

I understand the business side of running a team, but this makes me sad. Even more so after reading his farewell letter.

Always curious to know what the back and forth was- if there was any.

Well, in his time here he made a ton of money, wore the Flying Elvis with class, played at an All-Pro level, gave back to the community and won 2 Super Bowls. He benefited from the relationship with the organization as did the team and the fans. A great 11 year career with the team.

Hate to see it end but sometimes business is business.

But I wish the big guy nothing but the best in whatever or wherever he lands next. Glad he got to leave a winner.

Kinda sucks, but this had to happen. You just can't spend that much on 1 run stopping player and have to let your core secondary go because of it.

We all (including myself) Forget sometimes that is a business, and the bottom line is the bottom line. Hopefully the Pats can bring him back at a lower price.

Knew it had to come to pass but maybe the toughest guy to see go to date. And that says something knowing all the guys we've lost. Hope there is a still a chance for the two sides to figure something out.

Wilfork is one of those players, like Seymour and McGinest, that will always be considered Patriots.

Still holding out hope he returns to us but someone will probably pay him more than us.

Can he still resign

This hurts, I love the guy. They need to now retain Revis and Dmac. I can't imagine them letting all three of these guys walk !!
