Life without Revis and McCourty

Apparently you haven't been following the pats long enough to know what a true failure of management is. In the Billy Sullivan era of ownership the Pats lost the best cornerback ever to play for the Pats Michael Haynes over money. In the 90's the Pats lost Parcells and Curtis Martin and turned over the team to the incompetent Booby Grier who turned a Superbowl team into a loser despite having a multitude of draft picks. While losing Revis would be a serious blow and McCourty a lesser and more replaceable loss, you assuredly underestimate the capability of BB in putting together a defense.

Hey, at least Clive Rush knew Buoniconti was never going to amount to anything. Current management could hand the keys over to Clive for another couple years and still be the best managed team over the last decade and change

I don't see how hoping and praying that they'll stay, or bowing at the feet of BB's every move, is any better.

Are you making a religious crack? If I choose to kneel on my prayer rug facing Foxborough 7 times a day, that's my constitutional right.

Both players are going to get offered big money to leave, and the Pats under BB have shown that they set a price for all players and stick to it, no matter what the level of play of that player. Show me where I'm wrong.

Richard Seymour's first resigning, Logan Mankins contentious resigning. In both cases, you were wrong.

Of course when they wanted security in a last contract, they reaped what they had sown.

I don't hear a negative thing about Revis or McCourty. I think you are pessimistic.

The "fans" here remind me of the man without a car who won a brand new one in a raffle and all he could think of was to complain about the taxes.

It just sucks we won the Super Bowl. Now we'll have to figure out the business.

I've been voted down more times for a handful of messages in this thread than you have in your last 16000+ messages. All for the crime of suggesting we might lose both McCourty and Revis.

1.) With all due respect, this just shows that you don't understand why people were voting you down.

2.) The ratings system is relatively new, so, no.

Ha ha. Helping you catch up.

It has been quiet.

Not sure DMC has the same cache as Sey, Mank, Vince had as they were all-pros. Might be the reason he has remained quiet. I'm assuming the Pats tried to lock him up and he turned down their offer and opted to test the market.

The Revis situation is a bit more delicate. My gut tells me both sides are being very professional and courteous to each other. At the end of the day, if Revis and the Pats can't see eye-to-eye on a long term deal, they can do one of three things...

1) Shut down negotiations and he plays under the current deal which would be undesirable to the Pats but for Revis he would net $20m and be a FA next year.
2) Trade him out of the division so the NYJ and BUF don't get him.
3) Cut him but in that scenario the Pats get zip for compensation and do not control where he goes.

One thing that gives me optimism on Revis and McCourty. I know the clock is ticking. Most of us are pretty comfortable acknowledging BB is pretty smart:)

The easy thing to do would have been to simply Tag McCourty. Especially, if you think that things won't go well with Revis. If we had tagged McCourty, we'd be about 16.5m over. Releasing Revis leaves you at 3.5m under. Clearly, enough wiggle room to sign Gostkowski to an extension without making any other moves at all.

I think Revis sees the light. Save about 12m this year by extending him. 5/75-80M. With 40+ guaranteed. Gets you cap compliant. Now, BB has a tough call to make. If McCourty agrees to a long-term deal. Have to let VW go. Saves you 7m. First year of McCourty deal would be under 7m.

I think we sign Revis and McCourty. Release Wilfork.

I hate winning the superbowl, it's so stressful! ; )

People just want to see the SB champs stay together. The reality is that it is close to impossible.

The other challenge is that this team hasn't had a shutdown CB since the dynasty days and went 10 years w/o a title until they had another one. The logical fear is that if Revis goes, there goes another chance at a SB in 2015.

With Wilfork $$ now available...we won't have life without both of them...

to be honest, I think with the cuting of wilffork we will be bringing these guys back. they just cleared 8.5million$ in space.

We can hope but if you were DMac or Revis, you'd probably want to check out the FA anyway no matter what the Pats were offering, just so you have an idea and maybe more leverage.

And I am afraid that once they do they'll find the offers hard to resist.

Well thanks for coming around to this realization.

Frankly, you should have realized this might happen back when like, ya know, Revis signed here.....back when BB, patsfanincleveland, and others at patsfans.com knew it could happen.

Had this dawned on you when is should..............you would already be at the point where you would realize that BB has already reconciled and planned accordingly.

Maybe you would just feel better and have never had Revis signed and contributing to a 4th Lombardi.

Mccourty said Wilfork was a true Patriot and hope some how all this works out and they get to play together again. I tried to pose the exact thread from his Facebook but it was to large a file.
I think this speaks volumes and Mccourty wants to stay it would be great to get Mccourty,Revis and the big man wearing the flying Elvis!

Funny how woody johnson wants revis back all of a sudden. Is he gonna give revis 18 million?

Whats big dollars to dmac? Is someone gonna make him the highest paid safety? Has he surpassed thomas?

1 is possible.
2 is doubtful. They can't trade him with a 20 million salary on a one-year rental.
3 is a really interesting angle on this. Consider, if McCourty signs elsewhere, the Pats will get a nice comp pick, likely a 3rd (especially if he gets the big $$$$).

But if they CUT Revis, they won't get a comp pick. But if the pay Revis the Option and he leaves at the end of next year, they would get a comp pick.

I know that talking 3rd rounders as a consideration when discussing DMac and Revis is kind of a stretch, but I suspect it does matter somewhat.
