Bills trade for LeSean McCoy + Matt Cassel

I personally think that Kiko Alonso is an elite MLB and in that Kuechkly type of mold. I like the trade for both teams, but i have Philly winning this one

Meaning that he can sign wherever he wants to play.

Yes, I understand that. I was simply pointing out that the Eagles do not have to cut Sanchez to make him available - he'll be available to sign with any team on Tuesday. Sanchez is definitely better than Cassel.

No, he's not.

Cassel was the worst multiple game starter in the league last season - and now he's a year older and coming off a foot injury. There's no evidence that you can provide to back up a claim that Cassel is somehow better than Sanchez at this stage in their respective careers.

Do we assume he's starting?

Yes, if you cherry pick just last year, you can make your comment and some people will be willing to buy it. In 2014, Cassel started, and played, in just 3 games, because he got hurt. In his first game, he was excellent. In the second game, he was facing the Patriots the first week after the Peterson situation began, and he was terrible (Sounds like something a Patriots fan should have been able to figure out, but whatever). In his third game, he got hurt early in the second quarter. If using that ridiculous sample leads people to pretend that there was something definitive there, such is life.

However, if you actually look at their game play ever since Sanchez has been in the league, it's clear that Sanchez has not been as good as Cassel. But I get that making obvious observations runs counter to the "Bills, so suck!" mantra that this thread has been attempting to establish.

Matt's not physically elite, but his decision making and ability to read a defense are much better than Sanchez. Sanchez was ineffective in Chip Kelly's quick read offense where most of the time he just threw to a spot.

I don't think Cassell goes in as the starter. My guess is EJ Manuel wins a camp competition, and Cassell is there as a back-up and tutor, the same role he had in Minnesota with Teddy Bridgewater. Not bad having Tom Brady's understudy as your young QB's mentor.

OC Greg Roman has his hands full.

I clicked on the link because I wanted to read about the Bills getting Cassel. So why the hell am I dumped into the very beginning of the McCoy thread? I've already read all that I care to about that for the time being. Seriously, if you want to merge threads, fine. But don't rename the old McCoy thread so it looks brand new, make me wade through countless pages of **** I've already seen, and not acknowledge it.

Hehe same wtf moment for me too

I just heard on WEEI that Matt Cassel has made $70 million over the course of his career. Cassel should name his kids Josh McDaniels Cassel and Bill Belichick Cassel even if he has girls. He owes Bill and Josh big time. One year has made this guy a fortune.

I'm just trying to figure out what the McCoy-Alonso trade has to do with the Cassel trade...

Both McCoy and Cassel are pissed over being exiled to Buffalo?

The deal is Cassel and a 2015 6th round pick for a 2015 5th round pick and a 2016 7th round pick.

Free agency hasn't even started, and the Bills have already upgraded at QB and WR, for the price of a player that never saw the field and draft picks that (barring sheer luck) would not have yielded a QB of Cassel's worth. And Cassel will cost less against the cap than Orton did. They also added Incognito, who's a definite upgrade if he hasn't lost his game while sitting out last year.

Good start for that group up there.

And they've dropped more than 16 million in cap space, or doesn't that matter?

I think with a little bit of patience (like after the cuts next week), they might have spent that money more wisely.

In the game he was so-called "excellent" last season, Cassel threw for 6.8 yards per attempt and fumbled twice (though both were recovered by the Vikings), and the Vikings scored on long runs by Patterson, a pick, and short drives thanks to turnovers.

Cassel has been remarkably bad since the 2011 season. Sanchez, meanwhile, played well last year with the Eagles once he was out from the clutches of Brian Schottenheimer's playcalling.

Cassel didn't look so hot when the Pats played the Vikings last year. At the same time, the Vikes didn't have the offensive weapons like the Bills do, so understandable. Real question at this point is if Cassel has anything left, compared to someone like Hoyer.
Cassel has always been better than Hoyer.
