Bills trade for LeSean McCoy + Matt Cassel

Mark Sanchez first 3 seasons:

63.0 QB rating (12tds-20ints) 5.5 int%
75.3 QB rating (17tds-13ints) 2.6 int%
78.2 QB rating (26tds-18ints) 3.3 int%

EJ Manuel, to date:

77.7 QB rating (11tds-9ints) 2.9 int%
80.3 QB rating (5tds-3ints) 2.3 int%

I'm not saying that Manuel's the guy they're going with, or that he's any good, but people forget just how bad Sanchez was as a starting QB in NY when Ryan got them to those AFCCGs.
Manuel has also started a grand total of 14 games, with a Rb like McCoy though they can put Manuel or whomever else they put in at QB in a good position.

That is hardly meaningful. Here is a list of the running backs, ranked by cap hit. http://overthecap.com/position/running-back/2014/ Only two playoff teams had running backs among the 20 on that list (oddly the Panthers had three!). So while the running game may be a bit more important these days then it has been, what hasn't changes is their interchangeability. I find paying that much to a back, any back, suspect at best. Even the team that is the poster child for the higher priced running back, Seattle, has had numerous rumors about moving on from him.

there are only a hand full of RB's that should be paid top dollar, only 13 RB's had 1000 yards in 2014 six of them playing on rookie contracts

Nobody is saying McCoy is a bad player. I worry about his heavy workload.

Absolutely. This is only one move, and the Bills still have plenty of issues to address (Like every other NFL team), but it's a move that makes sense from a "What does Rex like to do?" perspective, especially since the Bills don't have a first round pick.

I'm sorry but I can't sit back and watch this without commenting....

Coming from a bills fan that watched every down of his 2013 campaign I can tell you he is a one trick pony, a complete disaster against the run, undersized, and lacks the ability to shed block. Kiko had a terrific front end of his rookie campaign and a horrific back end. Don't believe me, and want to continue to judge this based off of numbers and hearsay? Then I challenge you to throw on the atl and tb tape. Both of which highlight, kikos limitations and over pursuit against the run. Couple this with not one but two ACL injuries in Three seasons, and you have philly trading a KNOWN commodity, one that has proven his worth as a top 3 RB over the last half decade, for an unknown commodity in Kiko, coming off a major injury.

Again, please watch the tape, he's absolutely awful against the run. In fact, the non casual bills fan will tell you Preston Brown, had the better rookie campaign this season at LB than Kiko did in 13

THIS THIS THIS! Thank you Bills' fan. I agree with you 100%. Kiko Alonso is overrated and I agree with you he's terrible against the run and can't shed blocks. Also check the tape against the 2nd Patriots game. Same problem. I rolled my eyes everytime I heard Kiko being praised. He gets taken out of the run easily.

You are in denial if you think the Bills didn't get better on the field today. McCoy is a great talent. However, Philadelphia knows McCoy better than Buffalo, and Philadelphia thinks they are better off without McCoy at $11M. That is inherently why teams often lose out when trading for a superstar, since the team getting rid of the superstar has a better understanding of the value. Remember when Belichick fleeced Childress when he traded Moss for a decent draft pick? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. It's dangerous to trade with another team when there is a big cap eating player involved.

This is typical Rex. He came to NY with a super aggressive win now, tomorrow doesn't exist mentality. He overspent on Scott, Cromartie, and Tomlinson. He gave huge, unwarranted extensions to core players. He traded for Holmes and then gave him an insane extension, ignoring the downside of the risk. He traded for Edwards. Whether the player could make the team better for the next game was the only consideration- not value, cap ramifications, or future responsibility. Also, Rex believes he can get attitude problem players to perform well, and this could be the case here. We'll see if McCoy is just the start to a big spree to bring in big name veterans to give the team legitimacy and "swagger."

The bills got better but he might suffer somewat with the offensive line. Obviously we have to keep revis and improve our d line and o line.

I think the Eagles really just want the cap space. They also got rid of Cary Williams and Trent Cole today; they might be nearly $50mil under from what I've seen; Among other possibilities, I think they're going to play seriously for some combination of Maxwell, Revis, and McCourty.
Agreed. I don't think it's that Chip Kelly assumes he can do just as well w/o Shady in that he can explicitly replace the production with someone cheaper, but rather than the immense flexibility they already had is only increased by this move. I don't agree that McCoy is clearly on the downside, potentially I think he has another 2-3 years at an elite level. He shook off a sluggish start and finished strong last year.

Short term win for Buffalo, potential long-term win for Philly if they can find RBs to fill the 300+ carries that McCoy gave them the past couple years, AND use the extended cap space to fill other holes. Either way, doesn't make either team particularly better or worse, just a bit different. History says neither team wins ****.

I think chip will be in the league for awhile but his teams still dont play a lick of defense and maybe it was the personnel. That division is still very much up in the air. I expect the giants to be much better.

Don't think Shady will do that well with that line as well...we will see 2 times a year

Rex really got rid of one of the LBs with the highest potential in the league for a RB who may well already be on the downside of his career? Wow.

Dude he is 26..get real.. Even if he only has three years left thats along time in footbal

?????

What are you talking about? This move makes all the sense in the world for the Bills.

It makes a certain sense, but cap dollars are a very scarce commodity.

Kiko has had a prior ACL tear?

Varjao......

I'm trying to find more, here's what I have

In 2010, he spent the entire season rehabilitating from a knee injury that he suffered in the spring. He returned the following season and was Oregon’s eighth-leading tackler ranked fourth among linebackers with 46 stops, including 6 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks

I'd rather have Alonso than McCoy, even if he's an elite RB...focus on the defense!
Plus, we've always been able to stop elite runningbacks, when they were the primary focus of the gameplan, so I'm less concerned.

Would u trade Collins or Hightower for Jamal Charles ?

Don't sit here and say you wouldn't think about it

alonso for mccoy. with an extra cap hit. not sure i'd have done that. as good as mccoy can be.
