RUMOR: Revis "to hit the market?"

I simply don't understand what Revis would find attractive about the Jets at all. I though the entire point for him wanting to go back there was to play with Rex. Well Rex is gone and he's left a trail of devastation in his wake. The Jets aren't merely a team out of championship contention they are a dysfunctional bottom feeder going nowhere.

Now going back to Rex the Bills do not have nearly as much cap flexibility and money to pay Revis so I don't think they will be a threat. So why the hell are the Jets even in this discussion?

So, if Revis hit free agency, and Patriots asked him to give them a chance to match, how long will the Patriots wait? I mean if Revis waits for all offers and it takes 2 months, will Patriots wait that long?

WTH would Revis want to go back to the Jets with a first year head coach for?

If he goes back there then we know it's only about the $$ for him now because they have no shot at a SB. If he cares about winning...he won't go back....if he doesn't...he could

If Revis hits free agency, he'll likely be the top choice on the market and will be fielding multiple offers within the first day or two. It may not take 2 days, let alone 2 months.

They showed BB in the kentucky vs georgia game. He is attending the game.

And?

Are you implying that by him being in Georgia it must mean nothing is going on contract talk wise?

Did I say that? If anything bill had that poker face lol

If Revis hits the open market he's as good as gone, he will be wowed with offers from crappy teams with lots of cap space. Mccourty has a better chance to come back if he hits the market.

Bill was in the area for Auburn's pro day and decided to take in a basketball game that ironically nearly ended a perfect season.

I think the pats will ultimately exercise the option on Revis and preclude others from making offers. they will then get the deal done.

So say the most expensive car in the world is $1 million. Say you buy that car for $900k, but it is still the most expensive car in the world. Did you not get a discount on the price because it is still the most expensive car in the world? Did you pay full price even if you paid $100k less than its price?

Sorry, but if Revis signs with the Pats and he is the highest paid CB in the league, but other teams offered him more than the Pats did, Revis took a hometown discount. Discounts are based on the player's value and what he signs for. Not what other players signed for. What Sherman and Peterson got is irrelevant in terms on whether he will take a discount or not. It is what other teams are offering vs. what he will take to stay with the Pats.

I'd say you overpaid

I'd say you overpaid

Making Revis the highest paid CB isn't overpaying for him. He is arguably the best CB in the NFL. Paying him $2-3 million more than the next CB is overpaying for him. There is a difference.

So no one can tamper with revis til eve of 9th or 10th.

No one can contact Revis at all until he is cut. He is not a FA, there is not legal tampering period for him.

Once the Pats pick up the option what is his incentive to negotiate a new contract ? He will get paid 20m - which will save him from the franchise tag due to the 120% rule - and will be a FA next year again.

I honestly don't see this happening.

I have a question.. Let's say the patriots pick up the option and pay Revis his money. At any point after that can they still restructure his contract to clear cap space?

Yes, but it gives Revis even, more leverage and would be a dicey approach as Revis would essentially be giving money back and would be denied the opportunity to go into, the market. Ultimately it makes no sense because the Patriots will still end up paying him what he is asking and it would screw up their ability to sign free agents and complicate negotiations with Revis.

Thanks for the clarification.

I also think this will happen at the last minute on March 9th. His agents are currently playing a
game of chicken hoping he will be released. The trouble with this is that you can wave McCourty,
Vereen, and the rest goodbye because too much time will expire before he restructures. The Pats will also have to cut/restructure some bodies to get under the cap on March 10th.

I continue to believe that the silence actually means they are working out a deal. I think that if they had reached an impasse or the Patriots realized they weren't going to sign him that they would have moved on to other deals they need to get done, such as a deal with McCourty.

why else is it there? the leverage that revis got is that he can't be tagged......the leverage the pats got was that they get to keep him if they want....but in reality, neither side wants this option to be exercised, but it does give the pats the decision to do so. exercising the option is the one thing that changes nothing and keeps both sides at the table.

age is an issue. yes, revis may get alot of money for this year, but he may also not play as well and there goes his chance for the big money that he wanted.....he is not going to get the same offers next year heading to 31 years of age. he needs the deal this year.

there is always the possibility that there is a deal already in place and the purpose of not announcing it is that the possibility of revis becoming available interferes with division rivals ability to make decisions at this time......as long if there is revis to think about, need to keep cap space available

Is DMac gone a foregone conclusion? I am pretty sure the diffference is a couple of million. Can he actually make more then earl thomas?
