Bills trade for LeSean McCoy + Matt Cassel

Wondering if chip would trade foles to buffalo or jets and use that pick to take Mariota. If foles goes to buffalo, they'll be quite dangerous.

I really want to know who has all our cap.
Wilfork
Mayo
Brady
Gronk
Admendola
Solder
Cannon
Vollmer
Arrington
Who else where is all our cap room
tied up where we could lose two rocks to our defense.

We have a lot of good players, and we're paying a lot of them accordingly. Whatever the opposite of a silver lining is, it's that. Most players don't have so many good players worth paying.

But yeah, to be specific, it's pretty much the guys you named, plus $4M in dead cap for Mankins, plus Browner and Edelman.

Long-term, pretty much the only way to fit a SB-caliber roster under the cap is to get a lot of premium production from guys on rookie contracts. The Pats were so good this year because they got that production out of McCourty, Collins, Hightower, Jones, Solder, Stork, and Vereen. The recipe's the same for any good team, more or less. Getting such good bargains on your young guys allows you to go out and supplement them with a Revis here and there.

The inevitable result of all of this is that some of your really good guys have to walk when their contracts come up because you just can't afford to keep them all. The nature of the salary cap prohibits it. If you can afford to keep all of your good players coming off of their rookie contracts, then you probably aren't drafting enough good young players to have an elite roster.

It sucks to end up in this position of watching good players most likely leave, but it's just kinda inevitable and it's sure better than the alternative of having a bunch of cap space and not enough good players that you've drafted and developed to spend it on.

Luckily Buffalo doesn't have a first rounder, they already traded it away last year to get Watkins. I'm also not at all sold on Foles being good, FWIW.

Are people really downplaying possibly the best RB in the NFL?

He's 26 years old and played with possibly the worse OL in football last year and thus why he had statistically a bad year.

This is a great move by Rex trading for an impact offensive player. Kiki was overrated and coming off an ACL injury.

I'm sorry but I can't sit back and watch this without commenting....

Coming from a bills fan that watched every down of his 2013 campaign I can tell you he is a one trick pony, a complete disaster against the run, undersized, and lacks the ability to shed block. Kiko had a terrific front end of his rookie campaign and a horrific back end. Don't believe me, and want to continue to judge this based off of numbers and hearsay? Then I challenge you to throw on the atl and tb tape. Both of which highlight, kikos limitations and over pursuit against the run. Couple this with not one but two ACL injuries in Three seasons, and you have philly trading a KNOWN commodity, one that has proven his worth as a top 3 RB over the last half decade, for an unknown commodity in Kiko, coming off a major injury.

Again, please watch the tape, he's absolutely awful against the run. In fact, the non casual bills fan will tell you Preston Brown, had the better rookie campaign this season at LB than Kiko did in 13

To much cap for a back would take Alonso on the cheap contract.
Now the truth is Rex loves David Harris and he is a Bill already basically.
Alonso is special.

Don't worry man, the reaction here by majority of posters is typical of how these dudes react. If this trade was made by us, we'd be creaming all over our pants.

We're still gonna kick your @ss next year but still a good trade.

Some people on Reddit are claiming that Alonso has three years still left on his deal, since his ACL was a NFI and therefore didn't accrue him a year toward FA. Anyone know if that's true?

I would downplay any running back at $11 million a year in today's pass-happy NFL.

Haha unfortunately I think you're right...I keep waiting for the Brady era to end but I don't think it's ever going to happen

Undersize? He was measured at 6'3 3/4.

Interesting trade.

On one hand the Eagles are banking on Kiko becoming an elite RB with only 1 season of (very good) tape in the books, on the other Rex is getting his work horse RB. Good trade for both sides.

I love Chip Kelly. Just doesn't give a **** and is molding the team to how he wants. Takes balls to trade a top RB in this league a couple months into getting complete control of the team. I'd think the Eagles would love either Revis/McCourty if one of them hits the market. Chip is an offensive mastermind and can put up points with anyone. RB's aren't that hard to find and I'm sure Chip will find someone in the draft.

Same with Rex, he's such an awesome nemesis to BB. Why are people acting like McCoy is over the hill? He turns 27 in July, he has 3 years of elite play left easily. McCoy and Watkins in the same offense is going to be scary. Buffalo just needs a QB and they're SB contenders (on paper). Their defense is already legit and figures to better this year with Rex running the show.

I would be down on just about any RB in the NFL at $10M per year. And the best RB in the NFL is Jamaal Charles. You could maybe argue that it's Le'Veon Bell or even Adrian Peterson, but McCoy is not in that conversation and the OL that he's going to is at least as bad as the one he left.

Are the bills gonna fix that offensive line as well?

That would definitely help explain Rex's willingness to get rid of him. He's never struck me as the kind of coach who has much use for LBs that can't defend the run.

Not every team can have a Brady, Rodgers, Luck, or elite QB.

It makes sense for a team like Buffalo who already have very good defensive talent to give up what they considered expendable to get an impact offensive player who may be able to elevate that side of the ball.

Evans I would take kiko alonso any day of the week over a running back with a heavy workload and he is already *****ing about more money.

there was some conjecture of including McCoy in a package to move up for
Marriota. The Eagle wont draft Gurly as a prior poster speculated. Their DB's r terrible n just today let go of Kerry Williams. Look for them to draft there n to make a push for McCourty

The last 3 NFC SB representatives have been running teams that ran more than passed. This notion that it's a "pass happy" league ignores a whole lot of the picture.
