Bills trade for LeSean McCoy + Matt Cassel

One of the Bills fans whose perspective I really enjoy over on Reddit put it pretty well here: http://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/2xufvr/schefter_filed_to_espn_bills_have_notified_lb/cp3hfdt

"Deep RB FA market? Deep RB draft class? LOL, why go that route when we can just trade one of our best defensive players for an older RB before we even try to fix our ****ty god awful broken offensive line or weak RB depth that was the real source of the problem?"

I'm so ****ing pissed now. This is idiotic.
That pretty much sums it up. I would be livid if I was a Bills fan. Every move has an opportunity cost, and this was a big one. After trading away their 1st last year, the Bills have limited resources for getting better. It's just plain stupid to spend a bunch of those resources upgrading an area that wasn't even one of the five biggest problems on your offense last year.

I personally wouldn't trade away a very good young player with a lot of upside for a RB who already 1461 carries for his career (plus 384 receptions). Yeah, he is still young, but he has a lot of tread on his tires. Short term it might be a good deal for the Bills, but I think long term it is a loss and big.

The good news is this might get the Bills out of the Revis race. They have to eat a big cap hit for McCoy. They already have some high priced players. I wonder if Revis told Rex that he wants to return to the Pats.

It made sense that it was a need in trying to win but are they gonna upgrade that offensive line as well?

Long term I like the deal for the eagles.

I don't recall Ryan needing a quality QB in order to get to back-to-back AFCCGs in 2009-2010, do you?
true but EJ Manuel is significanty worse than Sanchez was. They did go 9-7 though, mostly with Kyle Orton

Conversely, I fully expect this to put the Eagles in both the McCourty and Revis races. Too much cap space cleared up today for a team whose #1 need is fixing its secondary.

But if Rex dropped out because Revis told him he is going back to the Patriots (I am speculating), then it really doesn't matter.

If McCourty hits the market, I think he is gone no matter who is in the race. Someone is seriously overpay for him and unlike Revis, he isn't really rich and can afford to take less to stay a Patriot.

The iggles could go after maxwell. I think it would be foolish to let maclin go though. The problem with the iggles is still the qb no matter if foles comes back. I still like cowgirls in that division even if they lose murray.

I think the eagles will try to grab both Revis and Mccourty and it be genius by Chip.

The Eagles have far too many holes to have the highest paid CB in the league and one of the highest paid safeties in the league (if not the highest paid one).

Right on, I would be okay with it if that's how this whole thing goes. I like McCourty a lot, but you can't keep everyone and the team has to start planning for the Solder/Collins/Jones/Hightower contracts that are coming up in the next 2 years. Even if they draft Solder's replacement this year, it'll still be hard to keep everyone.

Thomas got 10 mil. What will be iggles pay dmac? I wonder what kind of offer the pats would make if any

I really want to know who has all our cap.
Wilfork
Mayo
Brady
Gronk
Admendola
Solder
Cannon
Vollmer
Arrington
Who else where is all our cap room
tied up where we could lose two rocks to our defense.

That didn't take long. According to Jason LaCanfora, McCoy is already rumored to be upset about his contract and threatening to hold out in training camp:

Wow, dude already has $10M in salary and roster bonus coming to him this year. What else could he possibly want? Dude is crazy. It's definitely not ideal for him that his contract comes up when he's 29, I could totally see him wanting more years/guarantees... but he's scheduled to make $18M from the Bills in the next 2 years. There's no conceivable deal that they could ever want to give him that would include much more than that in guarantees.

So in a year in which both the FA and draft classes are considered to have good depth at RB, the Bills trade a promising young MLB (on a rookie contract) for a 27-year-old RB with a very high cap hit, who immediately demands a raise?

There's some poor decisions "afoot" here.

Mark Sanchez first 3 seasons:

63.0 QB rating (12tds-20ints) 5.5 int%
75.3 QB rating (17tds-13ints) 2.6 int%
78.2 QB rating (26tds-18ints) 3.3 int%

EJ Manuel, to date:

77.7 QB rating (11tds-9ints) 2.9 int%
80.3 QB rating (5tds-3ints) 2.3 int%

I'm not saying that Manuel's the guy they're going with, or that he's any good, but people forget just how bad Sanchez was as a starting QB in NY when Ryan got them to those AFCCGs.

Would love to see the Pats grab Spiller and watch him hurt the Bills but think he is all but a Eagle.

This is setup perfect. Rexy making the sexy moves, Bill franchises his kicker and will soon proceed to draft interior linemen and 2-3 ""reaches". Pats will start the season off "meh", while the Bills come out and win their first 4 or so... Then just when 1/2 of Patsfans contemplate therapy ... the Pats turn it on and win the division and go on a playoff run, and Rex puts 50lbs back on.

Why bother playing the season? Mark it.
