RUMOR: Revis "to hit the market?"

If he can get $16 million a year somewhere else and he takes $15 million here, he is taking a discount even if he is the highest paid CB.

if you say so

Last time I checked that if you sign with someone for less than what the market will pay you, you are signing at a discount.

again.....if you say so

Not if he says so. It is correct. Taking less than what you knew you could have gotten is taking a discount

Discount: offered or sold at a reduced price

So if the market is $16m and he takes $15m to stay, it's a discount.

It's obvious you are trying to say at whatever amount he would get is hardly a discount given the amount but the fact is if he could get more and doesnt and stays for
less it's a discount.

If we offer 14 to 15 then I dont see how revis turns that down unless the jets are giving him 18 million per year.

being the highest cost is not taking a discount.........standing there and saying 'I could have gotten more' is not giving a discount

that's like saying anything less than MSRP is a discount.....it's not

No, it's like if you're selling your car, and two people make offers. A random person offers you $5,000 for the car, is ready to hand you the cash, he's all in. Meanwhile, your brother says he wants the car, but can only afford to give you $4,000. You sell the car to your brother, giving him a discount, because all you had to do was NOT give it to him and you would have gotten an extra grand.

So say the most expensive car in the world is $1 million. Say you buy that car for $900k, but it is still the most expensive car in the world. Did you not get a discount on the price because it is still the most expensive car in the world? Did you pay full price even if you paid $100k less than its price?

Sorry, but if Revis signs with the Pats and he is the highest paid CB in the league, but other teams offered him more than the Pats did, Revis took a hometown discount. Discounts are based on the player's value and what he signs for. Not what other players signed for. What Sherman and Peterson got is irrelevant in terms on whether he will take a discount or not. It is what other teams are offering vs. what he will take to stay with the Pats.

AND, imo the Pats should pick up the $20M option and then drop a lawsuit/petition to the NFL for $5M of the cap hit to be assessed against the Jesters based on the tampering charge. THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS!!!!

However, I do believe from what I saw on one of the nfl timeline stories; the date-time for the Patriots to commit on the $20M and the date-time for the legal tampering period to start are exactly the same (4pm 7th ??).

So, if they do pick up the $20M; he is theirs for the next season and they can continue to work on an extension (and pursue the increased tampering penalties), but will have to cut a whole bunch somewhere else.

If they dont' pick it up the Pats have 72 hours to get to a deal with revis before he is a FA. But that 72 hours is at the same time as Revis/his agent are free to (LEGALLY) talk to spendthrifts like the Jesters about what pie-in-the-sky $$s they will give him. So at that point all the mojo is in Revis' court.

Revis' due date for the option bonus does NOT coincide with the start of the legal tampering period. That is incorrect.

Isn't the due date for the Pats to pick up the option coincide with the first day of the NFL year or the start of actual free agency?

I simply don't understand what Revis would find attractive about the Jets at all. I though the entire point for him wanting to go back there was to play with Rex. Well Rex is gone and he's left a trail of devastation in his wake. The Jets aren't merely a team out of championship contention they are a dysfunctional bottom feeder going nowhere.

Now going back to Rex the Bills do not have nearly as much cap flexibility and money to pay Revis so I don't think they will be a threat. So why the hell are the Jets even in this discussion?

Ok. Thx for correction to my memory, now i have time i can try to look for that article.

The only people talking about Revis to the Jets are the Jets and their beat writers.

Yes. It's either the 9th or the 10th. I believe it's the 10th, as you say.

Either way, it definitely isn't on the 7th as that other poster stated.

One more problem off your back ;)

I think revis is playing his cards. Woody Johnson is trying to serenade him. I dont blame revis for looking around but in the end he stays with the pats.

According to cbs the pending FA 'legal tampering' starts on 7th and pats have til 9th to commit on the 20M. Not clear to me if that is 1600 or 2400 of the 9th. I would think 1600 because the league year starts at 1600 on the 10th.

So no one can tamper with revis til eve of 9th or 10th.

Hmmmm, as i think about it, best of all possible worlds : revis comes out at 1600 on 9th and says i just signed a 13M per yr 4 yr deal with NE and oh by the way here are the recordings of all the phone calls i received from the jesters the last 48 hours .....

I think BB's ceiling may be higher than a lot of people are thinking.

In 2004, everyone thought that the Patriots wouldn't keep Ty Law at $9.46 million. They did. That was 11.7% of the cap that year ($80.6M). 11.7% of this year's cap ($143.3M) is $16.8M.

So no one can tamper with revis til eve of 9th or 10th.

Unless you are the Rats and the NFL front office is full of ex-Rats willing to look the other way.
