Patriots NFL Super Bowl Blu Ray (March 3rd Release)

I got my disc in today. Pretty disappointing.

It's basically the Sound FX, shown on every Inside The NFL, of every Pats game, stitched together. The Super Bowl recap is actually quite short itself and is also pretty disappointing.

I know the Seahawks were our opponents and in the end we won and deserve the praise, but virtually no time is spent on who they were, what there accomplishments were and how dangerous the LOB and Lynch actually were. It's basically just the big plays the Pats made, topped with the Butler INT and its a wrap.

Honestly don't know why they couldn't take there time with this. It's a rush job and the finished product certainly shows. Oh well.
Wait a minute so the DVD recapping the season is full of video you've seen before?

Not sure if your post is intended to be sarcastic or serious, but I'll answer anyway.

Obviously we as fans have seen every game and a lot of us hardcore fans have watched all the Sound FX clips.

The point I'm trying to make is that there was no effort in creating this film as an original piece. It's simply footage we've already seen on Inside the NFL or NFL.com, stitched together to make a cohesive recap of the season.

If your cool with all that, than you'll love the film. If you expected something more in line with detailing the actual Super Bowl in depth, a long with many new clips of footage, you will be disappointed.

Looking forward to picking it up somewhere after work. Not expecting anymore than the previous SB season recap DVDs. But still worth it to pop on though.

I'm looking forward to the bonus features, the Bruins had some good locker room celebration shots after Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. I hope this has some good Super Bowl celebration footage as well.

I see they no longer include the half time show as a bonus featuer (not that it's deal breaker by any means).

If you read the Grantland article, it's mentioned that the film is completed the Friday after the Super Bowl. NFL Films starts doing these on championship weekend, then puts together 57 minutes of footage from each Super Bowl participant's season and saves 17 minutes for the Super Bowl.

So it's not really any different from the SB36, 38, and 39 discs then, right? (As opposed to 3 Games To Glory I, II, and III)

As someone without Showtime, the soundFX aspect doesn't sound disappointing. That's too bad about the Super Bowl recap being so short. Perhaps the Three Games to Glory disc will be more substantial.

That's all well and good, but they rushed to release a sub-par product when they could have very well taken their time. I know I wouldn't have minded waiting another month for this.

The Super Bowl recap piece to me is most puzzling. It's essentially half of what NFL Network had shown a few week prior on their Sound FX broadcast. So like I said, if you're cool with the Super Bowl being a footnote on the film, then again, by all means buy it.

Pretty much, yes.

Yeah, if you've never watched any of those recaps, this will be a fresh look for you. If you have, it's pretty much a repeat.

So sounds like the whole show isn't even 90 minutes? That is disappointing. Are there any bonus features?

Hmm. That does sound different from the SB 36, 38, and 39 discs.

Those discs had the season highlights package that NFL Films does for every team (you know -- the ones that make it sound like even a 1-15 team had a great year :) ) and then a 30 minute Superbowl highlights/recap video (which was the same 30 minute video you'd see on ESPN, NFLN, etc.)

So now the SB recap is only half that? Booooo!

I have the 2003 DVD, pretty epic. Will pick this up at some point, nice to look at many years later.

Unfortunately it's the same price on Amazon Canada. Our dollar took a bad time to plummet, here's hoping it's better the next time the Patriots win the SuperBowl.

I am merely pointing out the time frame in which the film was completed since you say it seems rushed. And we have much greater and quicker access to NFL Films footage now than we did the last time NE won a Super Bowl. We basically see all the NFL Films footage for every game the days after a game is completed. For the Super Bowl, it's the same. You have Sound FX, Inside the NFL and the NFL Network Replay mixed with NFL Films footage being aired the week after the game is completed.

I guess it's just not shocking to me that we've all already seen what's on the Blu Ray. For die hard fans, you're mostly purchasing it to have it available to watch at any time or add to a collection. For casual fans or those without access to all the outlets for NFL Films work, it could be something new to view.

The entire show is 116 minutes I believe, which is substantial, but I feel like the game with the longest time spent is the Colts AFC Championship game. It's nice to see them destroy the Colts in slow-motion, but with so little time spent on the epic Super Bowl, it's very underwhelming, at least it was for me, to focus so much time on a blowout.

I guess so, I really haven't watched them in a long time. But no 30 minute Super Bowl recap, which to me is the biggest blunder on them all. I could understand not spending a lot of time on the game in the film, if that was included as an extra, but alas, nope.

What are the bonus features like though? That's where I would have expected some new material.

Bonus features are the entire post-game show, which is a nice touch, a few quick Sound FX highlights of the season and post-season, a Belichick profile, a Gronk interview, Brady interview, Media Day highlights, a Belichick/Pete Carroll profile and a Super Bowl society analysis.

Not bad features, but no highlights of the Super Bowl is very disappointing.

That is a letdown. Especially given how the game played out, you easily could dedicate 30 minutes to it, you'd think. Thanks for the heads up on what to expect on the disc.

Sounds like a lame blu ray. Will wait for 3 Games to Glory IV.

I watched small parts of the game when the NFLN had the replays on but for the most part, I've been waiting for the blu-ray to be able to watch the game from start to finish.

If you want to watch the full game, you can get it online (DVD quality). I just got it myself via a method that rhymes with 'for rent'. :)
