RUMOR: Revis "to hit the market?"

Rob said it best. Unless it's completely purely about $, why is Revis going back there?

If he does go to the Jets, then we absolutely will have a tampering case, and we should be compensated.

AND, imo the Pats should pick up the $20M option and then drop a lawsuit/petition to the NFL for $5M of the cap hit to be assessed against the Jesters based on the tampering charge. THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS!!!!

Legal tampering doesn't apply to player's under contract, only to free agents.

However, I do believe from what I saw on one of the nfl timeline stories; the date-time for the Patriots to commit on the $20M and the date-time for the legal tampering period to start are exactly the same (4pm 7th ??).

So, if they do pick up the $20M; he is theirs for the next season and they can continue to work on an extension (and pursue the increased tampering penalties), but will have to cut a whole bunch somewhere else.

If they dont' pick it up the Pats have 72 hours to get to a deal with revis before he is a FA. But that 72 hours is at the same time as Revis/his agent are free to (LEGALLY) talk to spendthrifts like the Jesters about what pie-in-the-sky $$s they will give him. So at that point all the mojo is in Revis' court.

Seriously, does it really matter? Do the Pats and Revis think that he won't be the most sought after free agent in free agency if the Pats release him? Even if the Jets didn't say anything, do people not think that there won't be at least a half dozen teams lining up to make him the highest paid CB in football, possibly the highest paid defensive player?

Every team tampers. I am not going to be a hypocrite and argue that a lot of teams filmed defensive signals when the Pats get caught and then act morally outraged when Woody Johnson acts like an idiot and blatantly tampers in a press conference.

Revis and his agent have been speaking with many teams about what they will offer him if the Pats release him. Let's not kid ourselves. Revis already has offers from other teams. So does Suh, Julius Thomas, and every other big time free agent. It happens every year.

You're right, but honestly the actual impact of the tampering isn't the issue here. Spygate blew up into a huge controversy over nothing, and in fact was something every team was involved in to varying degrees. What the Patriots were punished for was their arrogance in going against the commissioner, who sent out a memo specifically detailing where they could and could not film from. The issue isn't that the Patriots have been wronged, it's that the league overly punished them for performing a rules violation in plain sight, so they must do the same for the Jets or it should be seen as favoritism.

The Pats may have been overpunished because of Spygate and gotten way too much attention about nothing about Deflategate, but that doesn't want me to see every team get punished harshly for misdemeanors. It just makes everything become more muddied.

I want the Pats to be exonerated for Deflategate and apologized to. I don't want to see other teams get unfair punishments too.

Besides, in this case, all it will do is just re-enforce the Patriots haters' crazy beliefs that Goodell is in Kraft's back pocket and he goes lightly on the Patriots and harshly punishes teams that do them wrong. And yes, most people believe that Goodell was too easy on the Patriots with Spygate.

Deja Vu all over again. Last year at this time Patriot fans were freaking out because they hadn't 're signed Talib and then went crazy when the Broncos went on a spending spree for Talib, Ward, Ware, and Sanders and despite signing Revis many still went into the season with an inferiority complex that led to one of the greatest threads of all time, I DON'T CARE..........

Fast forward to this year and it's happening all over again and free agency hasn't even started yet but the Patriots don't know what they are doing and they are going too lose their best players etc etc......

Aaron Rodgers had it right...RELAX everyone. The Patriots are one of if not the best run operation in all of professional sports and they know exactly what they are doing, even if we don't. They aren't going to just stand by and watch great players leave without doing everything they can to keep them, and they are going to do everything they can to make next season's team even better than the one that just won it all. They may lose a few player's to free agency and some may be ones we covet but they aren't stupid and they definitely have contingency plans for every situation. They didn't become the most successful franchise in football through sheer stupidity so take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the offseason. Next seasons team will be just as good or better than the one that just won another Lombardi.

Woody johnson wants him bad huh? another article came out..they will overpay the **** to get him back if he does hit FA

If he goes to the jets then we better get that 6th pick in the draft. I would be fine with that.

The funny thing is that they would have looked like geniuses if they re-signed him last season after trading him away in a rehab year for what became Sheldon Richardson (one of the lone good draft picks by the Jets in the last 5-7 years). Now they will look desperate if they threow stupid money at Revis this year.

So why did the Lions get hit hard for off-hand comments about the Chiefs?

Losing a seventh and switching 5th with the Chiefs isn't what I consider being hit hard. More than a slap on the wrist, but losing a meaningless 7th and dropping 14 spots in the 5th round isn't exactly getting "hit hard".

I hate that scumbag Woody Johnson and his organization. I'll be irritated if they get Revis back after pulling all this tampering ******** then leaking to Mehta. But even if they get their little revenge and throw all the money in the world at Revis the joke is still on them. They'll continue to be a bottom feeder franchise.

There was clear tampering but the nfl would slap them in the wrist. There should be a major consequence but we probably would get a 4th round pick. What a joke.

Good points all around, and in put in that light I'm inclined to agree with you. The only problem is you'd have to assure me that we're not going to get punished again for something trivial. If that's the case, I'm 100% on board with not overreacting to misdemeanors. But if we're going to continue to be under this ridiculous microscope, but no other team is? I'd rather the punishments be stupid and consistent across all teams than stupid and weighted towards only our franchise.

He is going to be the highest paid CB no matter what. There is a difference of being the highest paid CB by $500k - 1 million a year or by $2-3 million a year.

theres no discount there.........only a premium

Curran, on WEEI, stated that he thinks Revis is going to hit the market.

Leaks like this are not tampering. They happen all the time. It is a creative way around tampering. But the legal tampering period starts in a few days anyway.

Except that there's already a clear, textbook-example-type case of tampering with Woody Johnson's comments in January. [The kind that the rulebook specifically says "This is tampering."]

If he can get $16 million a year somewhere else and he takes $15 million here, he is taking a discount even if he is the highest paid CB.

Yes, he tampered in January. Unnamed sources that Woody is ready to go all out to get Revis is not. Never was. Doesn't matter what happened in the past.

The league could ask Mehta who told him that. But when he says he isn't giving up his sources, they cannot do anything. If they can prove Woody Johnson or another management person told Mehta, they might be able to go after them for tampering. But that is never going to happen.
