Best player: Brady
Most important player: Brady
Best relative to the rest of the league at his position: Gronk

Brady. We got to the AFCCG last year without Gronk and Revis. We don't make the playoffs without Brady.

A team wouldnt make the playoffs without its starting QB?

Shocker

Brady Without Revis 3 rings. Revis without Brady 0 rings. Brady is the GOAT

Gronk can be eliminated from action by the other team. It is a function of the position. TB really cant. I see the other side but I think the question was legitimate and people are not looking at the question correctly.

There is no way you can say TB is a better QB right now, than Gronk is at TE. Gronk is far and away the leader while TB and Rogers are discussed as interchangeable. With Gronk there is no discussion and he has more competition because there are more starting Tight Ends in the league than QBs

That is all that is being asked. Not who made key plays, not who is more important, not who is more clutch in a certain game. Even in Bradys prime people were saying Payton Maanning was better. And he was putting up the numbers to justify the conversation.

When has anyone ever said the same for Gronk? You cant even find a hint of a flaw in Gronks game. I can name a couple in TBs.
LOL, how do you judge somebody as the best without asking about the categories you list. We'll just have to agree to disagree. Gronk is great but he misses a few out there too.

Edit - not for nothing, but the OP asked who is the Patriots best player. It's you that's reading all these other categories into it.

Depending on criteria there is no wrong answer.

TB is obviously the best "player" Duh....He is in the GOAT convo. But I was not sure that was being asked as much as who was the best compared to peers which is all that matters.

How can you compare QB to TE?

Why would anyone need to ask this if it was so overwhelmingly obvious?

I'd say Brady, Gronk, then Revis. Without Brady we're in the .500 range. I put Gronk ahead of Revis because he is a dominant force who if he was healthy in '11 I think we would have won that Super Bowl. I think Brady and Gronk firing on all cylinders are enough to out score most any team in the league if we have a subpar defense. I list Revis third because of what I just mentioned with a healthy Gronk but that doesn't mean he isn't important. I think we all saw what he was able to do for our defense last season and I'm hoping he is back.

Brady AND GRONK. these 2 are the best and that's where they sit. On the same shelf

I think Brady and Gronk should fight for the title

Thing is the discussion between Brady and Gronk should easily be solved by asking who makes the other look better the most. But that's when it gets even more dicier. Gronk of course makes Tom and the Pats offense significantly better and is the greatest TE in history with his career only just starting. Brady is the greatest QB of all time IMO and no doubt his vision of the game and ability to move guys across the middle of the field with just his eyes and body language opens up space for Gronk to be even better.

Which one improves the other to a greater extent? Tough to say but i'm taking Brady but that's like picking between a Cheetah and an Antelope in a speed race, it's that close.

Revis dynamic is amazing because playing in a position that is becoming increasingly difficult to be successful in, he causes nightmares for opposing coordinators because now they have a much smaller area of the field to work their offensive plan in. Simply because Revis is nearly always perfect no matter part of the field he is assigned to plus you can argue his addition is the key reason to a SB victory this season.

I'd rather sit on the fence personally than pick but i'll always take Tom.

Wow

Not sure what surprised me more.

That there is any doubt to the answer to this question.

Or that this question was even asked.

Brady may be the best ever at the toughest position to play in the sport.

If you go simply by best player it's Brady...but
Looking at the most valuable player it would be Brady....however
Looking at the best offensive player you'll come up with Brady.

So it really depends on how you look at it.

That was my point. Its such a stupid question I assumed it meant at the given position against peers now or something.

Gee who s better? A player in the discussion for greatest football player of all time or some guys who are not in the discussion.
I put way too much thought into this.

You need someone to throw to Gronk for Gronk to make plays. What, you think Garoppolo would've gotten us to the Super Bowl just because Gronk was healthy all season?

Not the point and this is just adding stupidity to stupidity

Okay, sir, explain. By best player in NE, I assumed it meant best player in NE. What am I missing? Furthermore, I think Gronk is amazing, the best TE ever, but that still wouldn't be enough to win us the fourth ring.

If it's such a stupid question why are you struggling so much?

I think the answer is easy. The best NE player is Gronk. He's by far the most dominant all around TE that I've seen

Youc cant compare the importance of the players against each other. Obviously TB is much more important than a TE.

This started from another thread with a different context.

How am I struggling?

There are a couple of ways the question can be interpreted:

1. The way you and I and several others are interpreting it. Who is the best at their position VS peers. No other factors.

2. Who is just the best player over all, most accomplishments, best at what they did, importance etc...

I dont think there is a wrong answer depending on how you look at the question. But I cant imagine the op was suggesting a discussion like #2.
