Life without Revis and McCourty

I can't speak for others, but look at your title for the thread and then your first post. Between the two I read that to mean that you feel that both players will absolutely not be on the Patriots roster in 2015. The thread title in particular evokes the response that there is no room for discussion on this topic.

In the second quote above you backed off, and then in the third it seems like you are in full back-pedal mode.

Again, I can't speak for others - but originally it seems as though you are most thoroughly convinced that the departure of McCourty and Revis is a fait accompli. You are most certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't be surprised if others disagree - especially when you imply that it something that most definitely will occur, an undebatable fact.

Just something for you to consider with those that may disagree with your viewpoint.

Good stuff, Brother Jam, but there was certainly never anything absolute about'is Pronouncements.

There's no question that Brother Biffin leaned out over the Plate a bit, mind you.

But Reasonable ~ and intriguing ~ his Posts were.

I think his username should be buffoon over biffins

In this case, packaging is a big part of the message, perhaps the largest.

"With it appearing possible, even likely, that both Devin and Revis are heading to FA, what kind of plans should the team have in the event of their departure?"

Is an entirely different question than the one first posed, albeit one with a similar answer.

I wondered what this board would be like an offseason after we won a Super Bowl. I see I have my answer: It's like every other offseason around here.

File this under "Sad but true."

Sure. I'll roll with that.

This isn't a good draft to need a safety. There is a lot of cornerback depth. I think we will draft one regardless. The cornerback play was pretty impressive at the combine.

I agree that it is an intriguing topic of discussion. It certainly is not out of the realm of possibility that both depart; we have all seen personnel movement that caught us by more of a surprise than this would be.

You and I will agree to agree to disagree on the absoluteness of his prediction - which is fine also.

Hope all is well with you OTG, look forward to even more of your insight and analysis as we approach draft day.

Has anyone taken into account the possibility that Belichick currently has Revis and McCourty trapped in some sort of isolation tank? My understanding is that it doesn't take more than a few days of sleep deprivation before a person will agree to pretty much anything. You never know, with the implementation of these "enhanced" contract negotiating techniques, we may be getting BOTH Revis and McCourty at significantly reduced salaries than originally thought. OK, so why isn't Ghost also in the tank? Simple. BB is Jedi-mind-tricking the league into thinking it's "business as usual" in NE and that the Pats are going to let the more expensive guys shop the market and further assess their value. Or it could be that he escaped.

Now, if none of this is the case and the Pats are ok with losing Revis and McCourty, then the obvious answer here is that we, as the dedicated Pats fans that we are, need to come up with some kind of protest! I often threatened this in my youth, and honestly can't say I had much success, but if we all band together and refuse to leave our rooms or even hold our breath until we get what we want. I can see the headlines now:

"City of Boston shut down due to Patriot's fans refusal to leave rooms until free agent DB's are re-signed."

"Boston and area hospitals overwhelmed by patients continuously holding breath until passing out."

"In other news, Chicken Little DVD sales see unprecedented spike in New England area.."

Maybe dmac will be gone. The question will then be who can replace him. I was think about this branch from oakland. Low risk but high reward if he stays healthy.

We can survive life without Devin though I feel it would be both stupid and unnecessary. Revis cannot be allowed to leave.

Revis has a history of wanting to be the highest paid

No he doesn't. He held out one time, which was when he was set to make $1m in the 4th year of his rookie deal and had out played that contract.

Then Woody Johnson decided to sell high when he was coming back from his injury.

Then he took a discount to come to NE.

I think Revis will be signed. If he is not then they need to sign another CB (Flowers or Cromartie are the best options... though neither is elite they are #1 guys).

After that get some DT and cut Wilfork. Then sign a decent Safety that while he won't be amazing will be okay.

The D will be worse which means you need to try to upgrade the O. Probably with getting a better Guard than Connolly in FA.

You would still be a weaker team than last year but still have a shot to win it all especially if your draft hits.

Also if Revis walks i hope he goes to the Jets. That way we can really cash in on that tampering claim with maybe a 2nd or even 1st.

Perhaps it is time to reinstate the "old school" rules for the forum meaning that there should be a (50) post minimum to start new threads.

I don't see them both being gone but just for fun I will play, at CB you sign Antonio Cromartie to a one year deal at 4 million and Charles Tillman again one year 4 million to play FS and you make a push for Mike Iupati

Works for me cousin. I think Revis is a once in a decade player. The Pats dragging their feet on getting a deal done with him is S.O.P. that drives us crazy! It does not always work well either. McCourty was very good, but replaceable. He was smart....unlike Cromartie. I like the Tillman idea. Smart and perhaps a better play-maker than McCourty. Get Iupati who is one of the best run blockers in the NFL and the "D" stays off the field longer.....I get it.

Another thought might be Arrington to F.S., Butler (et.al) to the slot. I am not Arringtons biggest fan but prior to last year when he started less games, he was one of the top DBs of the Team in PBU.

Why do people want Tillman? I really fail to see any way in which a washed up CB who hasn't been good or healthy in 2 years adds value, especially at a position he's never played.

So they should sign Revis quickly because it would be better and people wouldn't have to wait. Its a business that takes planning, not a exercise to pacify the impetulant fan base.

It is what it is. If we lose both, next man up!

Whats the backup plan? Will dennard start in place of revis? Will
they go back to drafting secondary players?
I hope not but it may be the case. We all know that the team has had a difficult time retooling the secondary through the draft. At a point we opted to throw money at the right guys in FA and worked it out. Of all the DBs we drafted, Devin and Asante stand out but that's about it. The others from more recent years? (I'm sure I am missing some).

Chung
Meriweather
Dennard
Tavon
Wheately
Wilhite (was he a UDFA?)
Dowling
Butler

It sure has been a struggle and the draft has mostly been a failure in his department.
