McCourty now has a choice to make

If it means keeping most of the other pieces, esp Revis , let him go. If he wants to get paid , which is his right. I cant see the Pats giving 2 very big contracts....him and Revis.

There is too much money tied up in our o-line

As it stands right now the OL is about a $20m cap hit for next year and that's without Connolly. Hardly "too much". Which the bulk of that money is going to Solder and Vollmer.

If you think that not having Mankins didn't contribute significantly to those two early losses, and the poor overall play in those first 4 weeks, I've got a bridge in the desert that I'd be happy to sell you.

Your argument sucks. I'm sorry, but that's just the truth of it.

Your argument was that they would lose more games, I gave you an example of another prominent player that people cried about losing and how we would lose more games. Yet we ended up with the same number of wins. I did not say it had nothing to do with the first 4 weeks, I said it did not cost us MORE games than the previous year, which is exactly what you are arguing about McCourty.

McCourty vs McCourty's replacement and the other players added with his money leading to the same number of wins is not an argument that sucks. It's the reality of the NFL.

While it definitely played a role it is only fair to say that the calculated gamble to get rid of his contract payed off. Despite issues that continued throughout the year the OL mostly held up, we got the first seed and here we are with a Lombardi trophy and w/o his contract on our books.

We don't know if VW will take a pay cut.

What dead wood on the line do you speak of?Connolly is a FA. Stork has a rookie deal. Wendy played for peanuts. Vollmer was close to all-pro. The team needs to decide how to extend Solder but I wouldn't classify him as deadwood.

Revis and DMC will cost you ~$60m in guarantees and (speculating) $30m in 2015.

What would you pay Vereen?

Yeah, no deadwood unless you think Connelly is overpiad and Soldier isnt worth what they think he is which is top dollar.

If you are keeping Revis, and Dmac and want Vereen as well as extending and keeping Amendola, and Mayo then I can see saving money with Wilfork, and Browner, and maybe taking a chance with Soldier who would save us 7 million if they cut him by next week. After that, he stays.

BTW VW is a 7 million savings by next week. 4 after that.

BB is almost 5 now and not much less after so he could be a late release.

This isn't rocket science.

The Patriots lost more games in 2014 than they would have had they not traded Mankins. Their win/loss total in 2013 is irrelevant. You didn't give me a valid example of anything.

Dear God,

This off season really sucks already. Please help.

Ok then, the patriots lost more games in 2014 than they would have had they had JJ Watt and Dez Bryant. There's a salary cap as you know. If my argument is ridiculous, then so is yours. Every team loses more games than they should have if they had another high priced player on the roster.

It depends on what you mean by "paid off". But getting lucky with your OL health doesn't mean you made the right move.

Ok, since you can't be bothered to even pretend that you're thinking before posting, I'm done with you.

Another one for the ignore list.

If Revis walks they probably keep mccourty. If not then no. I said that before and was condemned. But it appears true.

Did you recently start posting again after a break from the site?

All pro guys like Revis and DMac HAVE to be paid. There is just no way around it. As for Vereen, i honestly can't put a figure on him because i don't know how he should be paid. All i know is i want him back.

Your point that teams lose more games than they would have had they had an unlimited salary cap to sign good players was truly ground breaking, I'll miss seeing more great points like it in the future!

Pat's want McCourty back
McCourty has stated that he loves it here and would like to return
Hoping we get a deal done and lock him up before he hits free agency.
which I think we will.

Completely agree..............

Hoping & believing there is a lot of activity in motion with resolving both DMC and Revis. Amicably securing the cap space is probably the hang-up.

Possible, but I have the feeling that if we come to a point where the Pats need to flex this kind of muscle then the negotiations are already far away from a "good place". In the end, contract negotiations are such weird animals that I don't even want to speculate what is going on.

Whatever happens in the next 2-3 weeks, given history I have full faith into BB et al to come up with a competitive team for 2015. They appreciate the players they have, will go to whatever lengths they consider fair to retain them. This is why we are a contender season after season.

I think its a last resort because they really don't want to lose him. Who knows, i agree BB will put together a team that will be at home divisional Sunday and that's all we can ask for. I wish there was something like Bird rights in the NBA, because it sucks that you draft a player like McCourty from a smaller school develop him at TWO positions and lose him because a loser team has cap space to overpay because of the fact that they are losers.

I would rather be a winner without Dmac than a loser with him

Thanks!

Even though he is 32, he's still a good player. He should be back on the cheap.

Yea I think it'll take a lot of cutting/restructuring to keep DMC & Revis & Vereen.

VW is about a $4m..what the hell..it's not my $$

BB is almost 5 now and not much less after so he could be a late release.

I'd leave Browner alone. $4m for a starting CB is reasonable.
