McCourty now has a choice to make

What if the Pats don't think he's worth it? What if the whole assumption of this thread, that McCourty "has a choice to make", is bull? He's already made it clear he wants to stay here. If NE hasn't even spoken to him recently, that says more to me about the choice BB is willing to make than anything McCourty has to do.

Thrust me this is a major business, they are talking to him. They know he is good, it's about how much money. BTW they can multi task.

I think the die is cast.

2 comp picks next year. Do they go higher than end of third round?

I'm saying as a human being I don't think its right to pal up with the people who dragged your in this case your team your brothers your friends name thru the mud.
Before the biggest stage of your career or life and at this point its all conjecture I'm just saying if he signed with the Colts as some media outlets reported would heavily recruit him.
They are certainly going to be in the hunt for the next half dozen or so seasons with Luck at QB.
I just don't know how you could forgive that organization maybe I'm very loyal so to me its not about business it would be about loyalty.
I can't foree Dmac signing there for that reason I believe he has class and decency any other team including the Jets I could forgive and understand at least.

The Rubicon (Rubi-kenny?) has been crossed. The die is cast.

Iacta alea est.

I really thought McCourty would take off this year with Revis and Browner in front of him, but he made the same amount of plays as normal.

In the Super Bowl, he was nowhere to be found when we were getting roasted deep.

Throughout the year we were one of the worst teams defending passes over 20 yards AGAIN.

The difference was Revis and getting off the field on third down because of our enhanced coverage in the first 10 yards.

If this means resigning Revis, I won't be too upset. He's a good player, not a great one. Take these savings and give them to Revis and add a stud like Iupati to the O-line.

It's not that I don't trust you, I just think there's no way you can know this.

For all you know they are content with HARMON.

It is fun seeing fans of other teams mentioning McCourty now that Gost got franchised.

every one says the colts will sign McCourty but I would not be shocked if Denver makes a play for him. Rahim Moore is a FA so for a million or two more they could sign McCourty over Rahim Moore

I will say one thing. If the pats let revis and mccourty walk we will not bewinning another superbowl.

It took the pats 10years to build a respectable defense again

But I also dont see bill letting that happen.

What the hell are you talking about ? Who is the mystery second comp pick ? You know that Revis needs to be cut to hit FA, right ? There are no comp picks for that..

Well they need to upgrade the garbage they have at safety. Rahim Moore is nothing special and TJ Ward is among to most overpayed/overvalued players in the league. Half of his perceived value is due to him taking Gronk out.

Pretty sure this means McCourty will end up playing somewhere else.

Folks around here better get used to that idea.

The truth is that Revis makes McCourty a little bit redundant. You do not need a rangy cover safety when you have a corner that can take away one half of the field.

Yes and no. If you subscribe to the notion that Revis shuts down one side of the field and allows DMC to play over the top on the other side then they are not redundant.

Yes, you're correct sir. I forgot about that. Drat! No comp pick for REvis.

I wonder if they could pay the 12M and then trade him. Or does he have a no trade claus? If he won't accept the trade, then fine, he plays here (and we win another SB).

.

Really? The seem to win a few without them.. I am sure they can do it again.

Well we havent won since 2004 Until we rebuilt tje defense So I dont see them winning if we trot out duron harmon and browner as our #1 guys

I thought people said I was asinine and premature to think McCourty is gone if he doesn't get tagged. Not everyone's saying the same thing?

You can't win as a player if the only way people notice that you are on the field is when you actually screw up. And this really only happened in the Packers game.

Moreover, we were never being roasted deep in the Superbowl. There were essentially 2 deep passes that the Seahawks were able to lay on us and in both Arrington had pretty good coverage but was simply too small to make a play. The third deep pass - the Kearse miracle catch - I don't even want to mention here because once again it was perfect coverage. Not seeing anyone being roasted.

Over the season we were mostly attacked deep in garbage time. So take your stats and do what you want but this secondary played the deep ball pretty well throughout the year. You can't stop all throws but what you can wish for is constantly great coverage. And for the most part this was the case.

I think the problem is that you dont understand how a football team works.

I'm not sure what you have to back up your notion that most of these 20 yard passes occurred in garbage time. Bottom line they were among the worst in the league at defending deep passes. Was McCourty and the other safeties just not trying once the game got out of hand? Either way it's foolish to just blame all negative stats on "garbage time"

McCourty is a good player, not a great one. Duron Harmon will give you 60-70% of his production for 5% of the price. I'll take those savings and apply them to Revis and either an O or D lineman.
