Big money has different effects on different people. DMC has won a SB been to another, has 4 AFCCGs and in the playoffs 5 times. If the difference b/t/w the Pats & Titans is $5m guaranteed you question hid priorities. If it's $15m guaranteed then I don't blame him one bit for leaving.
How are taxes in TN and MA?

@RapSheet: No RT @Jarrod_Martin18: Stressing hard about not franchising McCourty, are the contract talks catching fire? @RapSheet

Phins have placed the "transition Tag" on Clay

If McCourty wants to sign with the Titans and spend the rest of his career with losing season after losing season on one of the two least relevant teams in the NFL, I wish him all the best.
Winning is secondary to most players. Show them the money. Love of organization is even lower on the list.
Wilford will love Belichick and Kraft so long as he gets his 8 million plus. He will wail l

Maybe McCourty is asking for cornerback money.

There could be many explanations for the McCourty situation.
We start from the understanding that he is a textbook BB type player. (You need to look no farther than BB sending McCourty out to speak to the reporter when he didn't go himself after the 2013 AFCCG loss to see the respect) and that we know they could have extended him at any point last season or the one before.
Any or more than one of the following could be true.

-BB may feel that the going rate for a safety of McCourty's caliber is higher than the value he puts on the safety position. It is a position we have never paid top dollar for.
-McCourty has stated he wants to be here. BB could have passed on using the tag on him because he knows he can work with him and is confident either an 11th hour deal can get done, or he will have the chance to match.
-We may just not have the cap room to afford him.
-There may be other areas BB wants to upgrade with available $$ (OL for example) and feels the gain there is greater than the dropoff from McCourty to Harmon or Ryan or Wilson or whoever.
-A deal has been agreed to in principal and they need to figure out how to clear cap space, since we are now somewhere around 12 mill over.

Which would mean they need to either sign Revis immediately or get big restructure or key releases. There should be big news coming in the next 24 hours.
Actually, the Patriots don't have to get under the cap until March 10th. They can take their time if they wish.
