Shocked. Hope they have a deal with McCourty that involves a low cap hit this year.

Well this is going to make the nest 8 days very interesting.

Edit: Also this might speak strongly for the Pats evaluation of McCourty.

They might be saying "You are not worth top market safety money". Maybe they view him under the top guys by a bit and want to pay him accordingly.

This is not how I was imagining this offseason going.
Really moving on from Mccourty?
They better pay Revis I can deal with Ryan at safety if Revis is there and if Mccourty leaves and signs for less than 8 million I will be livid.

I know I know root for the Redskins people will say but losing Mccourty will hurt.

Don't like this. Everything else aside, in a year where the Pats don't have much extra money to go around, paying $4.5M for any kicker just seems like too much. I'd much rather see a mid-late round pick used on a kicker, and the remaining $4M or so in salary put toward keeping some of the existing re-signs that need to happen.

Not a given that he's gone yet but if he hits FA there is a strong possibility he walks. Which means you have to work out that deal with Revis. No question about it.

I agree if we are keeping Vince and losing Devin and Darelle I will just say in BB we trust but Demarco better he coming which he isn't so yeah this sucks.

As expected.

Question, to get a new deal done with Gostkowski how much the Pats would have to spend? Is it in the same ballpark comparing to what they have to pay now?

Goat is important to field position with his touchbacks but Mccourty is important that we don't make EJ Manuel look like freaking Jim Kelly

Not worried about losing Revis because it won't happen, Bill KNOWS he is the key on defense. DMac is another thing because teams are going to massively overpay for him and we might not be able to compete.

I love Big Vince but he has to be cut at the money he's on now.

Buys them time to work out something long-term. Plus, Ghost is so far above average at the position that he's actually worth that. I absolutely love McCourty, but in terms of value add, Ghost @ 4 mill is better value than McCourty @ 9 mill. It was the more prudent use of the tag.

I am surprised they could not work out something long term for Ghost. 30 is young for a kicker. He must want megabucks.

Also, as stated, They tagged AV.

I saw this as a possibility after reading this might happen this morning. I don't see it as a negative re: McCourty. I I will stay positive that they are progressing with a deal with McCourty.

It's all good so far IMO
