I agree, but my thought is that he might reduce his contract understanding that he's more likely to stay healthy in a reduced role and also have more success here and, ultimately, be happier.

He could also take a couple million more per year to play on a potentially non-contender franchise, away from people he's clearly formed a bond with, in a more difficult role that will likely see him injured again. Rehabbing ain't fun.

I wouldn't begrudge him if he went where the money was. I know a slot receiver like himself only has so long of an NFL shelf life. But a few more million dollars over the life of a contract won't buy him the same bond he now has or the same legacy. It's not easy for a player in their prime to realize that but Danny strikes me as the kind of guy who may. We'll see.

Not just the money, but the chance to fulfill his potential. I like the guy, I'd like him to play here and I'm sure he won't read this before deciding but there's always the possibility a good team could make him a starter.

Stevie Johnson is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. I watched him a lot in Buffalo and he has a knack for bonehead plays on a pretty consistent basis. I think he would struggle in this offense and we'd have another Chad Ocho Cinco type situation on our hands.

I don't think he has a knack for bonehead plays. In fact, he's probably the best route runner in the NFL and he has tremendous hands, and I think skillset-wise he'd fit in well in New England. The bonehead stuff is after the play; Stevie's got a huge ego and would get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in Buffalo like every other game. I'm not really one who pretends to care about institutional culture or the like, and I like Stevie Johnson a hell of a lot as a player, but I'm not sure the coaching staff would want to deal with it.

It certainly doesn't look like the Patriots have asked Wilfork to restructure, he is on vacation and today's Tweet was simply this:

"So peaceful."

With a photo of a bed on a dock.

Enjoy the time off Vince.

Dude's on vacation. I dont think about work on vacation, two completely different mindsets.

Vacation or not I doubt that would his state of mind if they were asking for 5 million back or a release.

But you would of you weren't going to have a job to come back to.

When your that big of a name and just won a Super Bowl I dont think I'd worry if I had a job. It might be somewhere else but I'd 100% be employed.

Just food for thought, some people just don't let that stuff get to them. Last year he took his nameplate and left and didnt throw a big fit.

Actually he did throw a fit, cleaned out his locker and said he wanted to play somewhere else.

Wasnt that reported as what happened but no actual confirmation?

Well, I don't think they have it on video but Wilfork was clearly upset and Bob Kraft ended up weighing in on it to smooth things over, so I think it was a pretty credible report, and I have never heard it was rebutted at any point.

I'm as big a Wilfork fan as there is but even I think he is going to have to restructure this off season, and he is probably looking at 4-5 million for next season if he agree to it. I just think this indicates that they don't need it to happen right now and they are working on their other deals and options and will address it later

Agreed. Since 2010 his drop rate is around 4-4.5%- which is pretty good. (JE is around 5%).

Even though his last two years show statistical decline, at only 28 I'm not sure he physically is done. He hasn't exactly had great Qb situations...

As you say he is a headcase. Who knows what his deal is.

Wait, best route runner in the NFL? I might be mistaken by I remember him being well known for running unconvential routes and rounding them off, not clean, crisp, and by the playbook.

I thought it was a fairly "big" story for a player in Buffalo. Could be completely mistaken, though.

@JamesWalkerNFL: The #Dolphins have released veteran CB Cortland Finnegan, a team source confirms. The roster purge continues.

Dolphins are clearing serious cap they will be players.
My guess they are making a push for Suh on defense or Cobb on offense.

His route running has always made up for his lack of speed, though you're right that he's sort of a knuckleballer insofar as he runs unconventional routes with incredible body control. But that also makes him really difficult to cover. Revis might be the best corner of all-time and shuts down everyone, but he could never figure out Stevie Johnson.

He's also the kind of receiver who can play another 10 years without a noticeable decline because he's not reliant on athleticism. But it's always a question of whether his ego will get in the way. Still, if there was a wide receiver I'd consider for the Patriots, it would be Stevie, because I think his relative lack of production in San Francisco means he'll come at a relative bargain.
