So, we keep trading folks for draft picks. Does anyone have our draft selections for the next few years and what does everyone think DA will do with them

Try to draft Okafor. That's the primary goal right now. Need some luck.

The Smelltics won't be bad enough unfortunately to be close enough to Okafor to be able to trade up
for him. A more realistic hope might be one of the Kentucky big men with their own pick, then double-
dipping for size by drafting Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky with Brooklyn's.

anything is possible with all those 1st rd picks. it gives danny lots of room to maneuver just have to hope the right situation presents itself.

Exactly. See where the ping pong balls leave you and then use some of those draft picks to move up and grab the guys that you really think can be difference makers.

That doesn't mean he can necessarily use them to grab the #1 pick - but in the crap shoot of the NBA draft you can find some keepers. Heck, Paul Pierce was drafted #10 (while other guys drafted higher have LONG been gone from the NBA)

This is the reality for the Celtics. Ainge gave it his best shot to build around Rondo and attract Kevin Love but it wasn't meant to be so now they go to Plan B - build through the draft. And there really is no other option - Boston just doesn't attract the top free agents as it stands.

What concerns me about this approach is that when you draft a player in the NBA it can take awhile to know what you have. And with new draftees ready to come in to take up future roster spots Ainge is going to have his hands full quickly and accurately assessing the talent he drafts.

We've seen lots of young players let go or traded by the Celtics and other teams that later turned into big stars. Joe Johnson comes to mind - a guy who would go on to average 25 points per game traded by the Celtics early in his career as a 6 ppg player for Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers.

Like Pierce, Johnson was drafted at #10. If Ainge drafts a future Joe Johnson will he have the ability and roster space - let alone the patience - to wait 3-5 years for a player to reach his potential before he uses a roster spot on one of many more #1 picks yet to come?

So not only does Ainge need to draft wisely, he needs to manage the roster wisely as well and keep the right guys and let the wrong ones walk.

There's going to be hits and misses - he just has to hope there's enough hits - and maybe a home run or two - in that big mix of draft picks

And alothough I think he might do better to get as many guys up front as possible given the fact that players need awhile to develop, I have a feeling we'll see him continue to wheel and deal and stockpile future year #1s with the lower end #1s he has now

But really - anything is possible as you say and that's about all Ainge can do!

Here are all the picks, not sure what they will do with them...

They have one less pick than they did 2 days ago, and they are a better team today than they were
2 days ago, but I wish Danny could've traded a couple of those billion 2nd-rounders for Isaiah Thomas instead of one of those 1sts…and although Tayshawn Prince had no future here, the 2 guys traded from Detroit for him are nothing more than useless trash.

Their Guard situation seems OK for now, but they have nothing at Center behind Zeller (who is just a backup on a good team anyway), and nothing at Small Forward behind Crowder (who, again, is just
a backup on a good team).

i believe the two players they got for prince have expiring contracts. and the 1st they gave up was clevelands pick so it will be a very low 1st rd pick. i like it.

I love the trade. As Captain said the pick will be a low pick and Thomas can really play. He is also willing to come off the bench so that gives us a nice group of guards.

Danny and Stevens next trick will be to get us no lower than 6th pick in the draft ...
We absolutely need to get 1 of the 3 centers available ... I'm not sold on the Kentucky kid who would be the 4th. Turner or Towns would be nice ... IMO anyways.

Exactly. In the NBA, the lifeblood of a franchise is almost always the good fortune of having very high lottery picks, not of having a billion 2nd-round picks & a few late 1st-rounders.

Now that Sullinger is done for the season and Olynyk still hasn't returned, the time to start tanking is now.

They won 7 out of their last 10. The team isn't listening.

To their detriment. They had a golden opportunity last night to solidify their place in the lottery,
and they blew it. Idiots.
Welcome to a generation of mediocrity. The 76ers will win a championship before we will.

its not about the games the celtics win or lose. its about the nets. im glad the celtics are playing well. they have so many picks they dont have to tank to have a good shot at some high draft picks.

76ers Seem to be on the right track to win.

Thank you very much Isaiah (8 for 21) Thomas for throwing a brick when there was 4 seconds remaining on the clock to ensure the loss vs Golden State. That makes up a little bit for the hollow victory vs Charlotte earlier in the week.

celtics playing awesome. im looking forward to the off season. ainge has a lot of room to maneuver with picks trades cap room ect ect. this team is a lot closer then people think.

After these last 2 losses, let's hope that they abandon the delusion of making the POs at the expense
of securing more favorable draft position, because if Danny hasn't acquired a legit Center by the start
of TC, then we can forget about 2015-16, too.
