Dockett is someone that has a lot of talent, I know he is coming off an injury but I bet some team takes a flyer on him

Agreed, Sign him for a prove it contract. PM.

Rumors that Stevie Johnson has been cut.

I would get him on a plane right now. He's a mid-range WR1 with an accurate QB. Remember him owning Revis back in the day?

@NBCdianna: Per sources, 49ers are expected to release Stevie Johnson. This will save 5.5 million of cap room. #49ers

Great offensive fit and would start day 1 IMO. If his stock is at rock bottom I would offer a 1 year prove it deal.

Can play the slot and outside. Has always performed best vs. the best CBs. FA
binky time.

I think that we need to be a bit careful about lusting after players that are cut because their team won't pay them. For almost all of these players, if their team won't pay them, it is unlikely that Belichick will.

Where Belichick seems to have an advantage because of our depth, is the ability to take advantage the opportunity to ring in players coming off injuries.

Of course, Belichick also takes advantage of stupidity, as in the case of LaFell being available. Johnson could be one of these players, but I suspect that the cost will be too much.

Two bad years in a row suffering as a route running WR with EJ Manuel and Kaepernick.

I would atleast explore stealing him like Lafell. I'd be surprised to see him get much money.

Just another option at WR2/3 that won't be unrealistically expensive.

Yeah, I don't see S.Johnson. He's too similar to LaFell anyway, doesn't offer us much.

Or we could not

Amendola had one great game against the Ravens, was non existent against the colts and was solid against the Seahawks.

But according to this board he was Larry fitgerald on the 2008 playoffs
No one's saying he's Fitzgerald but the point most are making is the fact that he's better than he's being given credit for. and the fact he's being completely dismissed by so many is ridiculous. The guy fell off, realized it, and then worked hard to make himself useful and contribute and it made a difference in the regular season, playoffs, and he helped them win a championship.

As far as him being "non existent against the colts" - he wasn't out there because the game plan obviously leaned heavily on different personnel groupings that didn't warrant him being out there. He only played in 37% of the snaps in that game, one play less than Vereen and 13 less than Blount. He's good enough to have on this roster if he'll lower his salary, which I'm guessing at a lower number people might finally get off his case.

Has nothing to do with my point. You and most people on this site are drastically overrating amendolas postseason this year. He's done nothing in his patriots career to show that's he can be counted on to produce

Danny amendolas 2015 playoffs

Seattle
5 catches/48 yards/1 Touchdown
Colts
1 catch/ 8 yards
Ravens
5 catches/81 yards/2 Touchdowns

Coming of a 27 catch/200 yard/1 TD regular season.

But he should be locked in as our number 3?
Not to give you hard time, but all your numbers do is back up by point. So he catches five balls for 81 yards and two touchdowns against Baltimore, plays in only 37% of the snaps in the game vs Indianapolis, one play less than Vereen and 13 less than Blount on a night they didn't need him to produce because the game plan dictated that, and then has five catches against Seattle, one of which was a TD and helped win the game.

Terrible performances. If that had been Tyms people would be thinking differently. My feeling is that guys who work hard and put the effort in are the ones that should be at least appreciated. We've seen plenty of malcontents come through who have high expectations, don't produce, and then blame the offense or how they're being used. Amendola doesn't fall into that category. Like I said, maybe if the guy takes a big pay cut maybe people will get off his case.

Well it is strange. Doesn't seem like they're negotiating. Either they'll pay it or it's an outright cut. If it were a cut it would be soon so it's looking like they'll pay it.

Which is strange.

How do you know they haven't been negotiating with Wilfork?
Wonder why they haven't cut Wilfork yet. Right thing is to make cuts early helps the player.

They'll either cut him soon or suck it up and pay him I guess. If they had asked him for a pay cut you'd think you would have heard him fuming by now.

How do you know they haven't been negotiating with him? Think of all the negotiations with him since he was drafted and we never had a clue to the end result. BTW, the Patriots played their cards superbly on each occasion.

"You, kind sir, are a breath of fresh air. Thank you."

My issue with people killing him is simple, we lost two other Super Bowls by not having one more guy who could win one-on-one match-ups and get open and make a play. We finally get one who does that makes some plays to help them finally get a ring and people still want to kill him

So what if he didn't catch 100 balls last season and hasn't panned out into being super star. He helped them do what they couldn't without him and a few weeks ago, they won a ring and he at least proved throughout the year that he cared and wanted to try and do more to help this team. That's about all you could ask for.

So it looks like Jermaine Gresham is going to be released from the Bengals...any interest? I believe he's a former 1st round pick. Not sure how expensive he'd be. Think he's more of a blocker but he'd be some nice depth behind Gronk.

I like the idea, I just think that someone might overpay for him. Although I haven't watched him enough to be able to add much beyond that other than what we've seen from him.

Even a veteran cut thread result in a Amendola bashing, poor Amendola. :(

Anyways, Cowboys declined to exercise the contract's three year option on Henry Melton, making him officially become a free agent on March 14.

Seem like the knee injury is still nagging him.

Based on his playoff numbers alone? Absolutely. Those are solid #3 WR numbers especially when you factor in the Colts' game the Pats played a lot of six o-linemen packages and ran the ball a lot (40 times to Brady passing 35 attempts).

Take the average of his three games in the playoffs and put that average over a 16 game schedule, he would have 59 catches for 730 yards and 16 TDs over the course of the season (and this average factors in that every third game he would have only one catch for less than 10 yards). That would put him well up there on the list of #3 WRs around the league.

If Amendola can give you over a 16 game schedule what he gave the Pats in the playoffs, not only is he a lock at #3 WR but I would argue the Pats are all set at WR. Maybe a #4 WR is needed depending on how they feel about Dobson.

Not overrating his post season performance at all. You couldn't ask for much more from a #3 WR than what he produced.
