Perfect use of those two terms- - shmessy approves!
Absolutely.

schlemiel

Definition of SCHLEMIEL

NOTES:
No discussion of schlemiel would be complete without mentioning schlimazel, one prone to having bad luck. In a restaurant, a schlemiel is the waiter who spills soup, and a schlimazel is the diner on whom it lands.

No Aaron Dropson thread is complete without these 2 words: Keenan, and Allen.

Not that my comment will add much of anything, but I think we're all still hopeful that Dobson can finally grow now that the injury won't be a concern.

That said, there's also no reason whatsoever to feel extremely optimistic about it either. In other words, we'd be dumb to give up on him, but should be quite cautious with our optimism. That's my opinion, anyway.

Edelman was almost never a healthy scratch

The fact that Edelman was active for ST reasons and still wasn't producing actually says less about him, not more.

I am often wrong (I certainly was on Edelman), but last year I was flamed because throughout the season, I reiterated my educated guess that Dobson's benching was due to his play and not his injury, and that the coaches had essentially decided he shouldn't be in the lineup, even if LaFell were to get injured. I believe I was correct about that.

There is no reason to believe this assertion is any more accurate now than it was before.

Can anyone explain why we let go of Thompkins but kept Dobson? Was it money, or locker room/off the field stuff, because IMO it certainly wasn't production or accountability... Still baffled about that one.
Dobson has more talent and physical ability. Thats it.

I have zero interest in Percy Harvin.

That dude is a locker room menace.
We've handled those before. I think it's worth a look if he's cheap. Could do some big things in the backfield. Soon as he causes trouble you give him da boot. Don't see what the issue is.

I have no idea what to make of Dobson or how to project his future. Dobson's rookie year was, as you say, productive considering the amount he played. You would think he would be the ideal LaFell backup. A cheaper version of a similarly big receiver who can get open on similar routes. If someone wants to say Dobson should be a deep threat, sure, that's gravy to me. I just want another receiver on the roster who can step in if LaFell gets hurt. Can Dobson be it? He has to be healthy first, but I hope so.

Good post. Dobson was having a good rookie year until he got hurt. Last year was a mess. Reiss relayed that there was concern about Dobson's compete level so we shall see if thats the case.

Well, I do continue to have hope for him - but what concerns me is my inability to think of players with comparable first two years who went on to get better. I saw Reiss' comments, and concerns over his compete level are discouraging. Because as we've found, those things can matter.

You are right. With players like Moss and Dillon as examples the team has received great production out of players that were problems elsewhere.

His talent is amazing. My issue with Harvin is that he is not durable, sporadically productive and a problem player. If he was a perennial 1000 yard receiver or consistently dynamic, game-breaking return guy then I can see how it's worth taking a flyer on him.

Harvin isn't nearly as productive as the players they tried it with before. He also managed to shoot his way out of town on a SB winning team that was as lax as they come only a year after they traded a first rounder for him. This isn't Moss or Dillon souring after years of ineptitude.

No F'ing way.

fWIW, hat was purely speculation, barring Mike packaging inside information as guess work.

I realize people are justifiably having flashbacks of Chad Jackson, but I would really like to see what Dobson brings to the table when healthy.

Dobson, DGB,Lafell,Gronk, on the field heck of a goal line package.
If we signed Harvin that would be a incredibly flexible piece as well.

No no no no. Moss and Dillon were never its all about ME type of players.

Harvin history high level (off the top of my head)

- High draft pick, great asset for Vikings
- Problems with team/GM
- Seattle gives multiple draft picks to get him.
- Gets hurt but makes some key plays in SB to help Seattle win
- Problem with team/GM
- Traded to Jets for a bag of footballs and a cup of coffee (Seattle still owes Minn picks)
- As dumb as Jets are, they see he is a prima donna.
- Released

I'm all set

Let me help out there:

Julian Edelman:
---------------------

26 games 44 REC 445 Yards 1 TD

Aaron Dobson:
------------------

16 Games 40 REC 557 Yards 4 TD

Yep. We've all heard BB say that he will never hold it against a player that is doing all the right things and trying to win. What exactly does win mean? Winning in practice. Winning in games. Winning by learning the playbook. Winning in rehab. Because I'm not completely informed, I'm not sure if one - or several of the things I have mentioned in applicable to Dobson's 2014 season. All I think we know is that he has talent and has had enough production here to warrant a proper evaluation to determine if he is in a position to win a role on this team.

Hopefully it was just the injury but it doesn't sound like it from what BB and Bruschi were saying about him. Gonna hope for the best though. Edelman and LaFell are on the outside but Edelman could do some more inside stuff if Dobson can revert back to his rookie season form at least. Don't think Tyms will even make the roster, probably him or Boyce on practice squad.
