@RapSheet: QB Josh McCown signs with the #Browns, per agent @MikeMcCartney7. Had also considered offers from the #Bills and others

They opt for McCown over Hoyer, typical Browns.

Escape that dump Brian and make em pay.
The Browns being the Browns...

Some teams can't be saved from themselves. It's as if the stench of failure embeds itself in their psyche.

Seems like a lot of things are happening even though not many are that big.

Are the Pats the only team that have not made any moves yet? It seems almost every other team has done or is hinting strongly at some cut/signing/trade.

Still have 0 idea what the Pats plan to do beyond sign their guys.

See attached for a summary of moves over the past week. It seems that 15 teams have reported no moves, including NE, DEN, SEA, PITT and SF.

There is no advantage in announcing early. Franchise announcements should start coming soon.

Potroast would be amazing if Wilfork moves on. But highly doubt we can afford him barring some creative manuevering.

Wonder why they haven't cut Wilfork yet. Right thing is to make cuts early helps the player.

They'll either cut him soon or suck it up and pay him I guess. If they had asked him for a pay cut you'd think you would have heard him fuming by now.

I think he was getting 3m from denver. Pretty easy to afford if they jettison wilfork.

@RapSheet: What’s the market for a hybrid starter/backup like QB Josh McCown? His deal is 3 years worth roughly $15M, source said. Not bad.

@PatriotsSB49: Browns have had 22 starting QBs since 1999. Brian Hoyer is the only one with a winning record (10-6).

@PatriotsSB49: Buffalo Bills would win 11 games in 2015 with Brian Hoyer at QB.

@TheTrivShow: I hope Brian Hoyer goes 11-5 with Buffalo. What a slap in the face.

---------------

Hoyer may have had the worst WR situation in the league last year. That offense was a
trainwreck.

You put Hoyer on a team with Watkins/Woods and a top 5 defense with Alonso back/Rex, and that Bills team may be the best AFC East challenger since the 2010 Jets.

Thanks alot Browns for maybe giving the Bills an actual QB...

Hoyer is aight but he really isn't that good. Nobody is winning a championship with Hoyer at the helm and I like the guy. He just isn't that good.

Well it is strange. Doesn't seem like they're negotiating. Either they'll pay it or it's an outright cut. If it were a cut it would be soon so it's looking like they'll pay it.

Which is strange.

I'd rank him at about the Trent Dilfer level. Which means with a strong defense and a good running game he's good enough to win the SB.

Honestly if he went to any team in the AFC East I think he'd immediately become the 2nd best QB in our division.

But I'm not very high on Tannehill so I might be biased.

You are right, Tannehill can't pass over 20 yards.

They have a long 10-12 days before they have to make a decision on major players like Revis, Wilfork etc.

Even if they cut Wilfork at the very last minute (which probably won't happen), he'll be a free agent on the first day of the league year just like everyone else. It's not like they'd be cutting a backup special teams player who needs all the time he can get to try and latch on to some other organization.

What he was getting in DEN on his last contract is pretty much irrelevant, considering that he'll be signing a whole new contract in free agency. It's not like we can look back and say "Demarius Thomas was only getting 3.25 million from the Broncos last year, so we could easily afford him."

Obviously, he'll be looking for much more money now that he is a free agent, just like Terrence Knighton.

I'm sorry Kenny--one more point which I forgot to include in my response to you:

We really have no idea what's going on, but it's safe to say that they're likely negotiating. I'm not sure that it'd be quite as black or white as you're making it out to be, either, but that's just my opinion.

I think there could possibly be a middle ground which involves a reduction in pay, rather than just your "pay or outright cut" scenario. I also would respectfully disagree that we can necessarily read anything into it. In other words, I'm not so sure that "it's looking like they'll pay it." It's just too early to tell at this point. We'll probably need to re-visit the situation again next weekend if it isn't resolved by then.

Sorry if this is late to the party (I haven't yet read the first 320 posts), but Atlanta released OG Justin Blalock. This move appears more salary-cap-savings related than performance-related. He was on my short list of first-round possibilities in the 2007 draft (Stomper Meriweather was obviously not on that list). Unfortunately, he will cost more than just the vet minimum.

Oh I agree. I was worried JE would never stay healthy. And the way he plays makes an injury more likely. Guy has no "off" switch.

I guess the issue is - If we get rid of DA we need someone to count on. Dobson is a question mark. Then its someone outside the organization. So, at that point is the gamble you take to get someone who might stay more healthy, but might not jell with TB or be good in the locker room worth it?

I think with DA its the "devil you know" situation.

Sup, veteran players who are released now are able to sign whenever they want, they don't have to wait for the league year to end, that's just for players who are becoming free agents as their contracts don't expire until then.

Tim Wright

Tim seems like a solid player but we need a WR if DA goes unless they figure he is not going to work out at TE.
