2015 NFL Veteran Cuts Thread

I think with DA its the "devil you know" situation.

I suspect that most of us agree with you. However, Amendola could be gone. We should explore possible replacements. And yes, even with Amendola here, it worth exploring inexpensive free gents who might compete with Dobson, Tyms and Boyce for the last one or two wide receiver spots.

I wouldnt have it any other way. Always explore. IF DA is gone, go after someone who you feel could push for a #2 etc. Dip in and spend some money. If DA stays, go after some low risk guys, some low priced vets who might have something to give with a new team, a reclamation project.

I guarantee there will be someone brought in to camp. Its the same thing every year.

I'd cut DA and bring in Hartline.

.
Not sure I would do that. If you cant restructure DA, sure, they need someone, but if there is a chance you can RS DA he has better hands and is a superior ST player and would be much cheaper because there is still dead money on top of Hartlines salary who I still think wants to be paid.

Plus DA is a slot receiver which we really dont have - JE kinda. We have guys like Hartline on the roster already.

I like Harry Douglas. He might do well here. He had some success in Atlanta when Jones and White were both out.

Yes, could definitely see Douglas as a "Pat" type of player. I'm thinking he might cost too much for us though, but he would be very interesting!!!!

I'm amazed at how quiet things have been out of Foxborough, they are good at keeping a lid on things but I would have expected some noise about restructure at a minimum. The next week and a half should be really interesting.

Falcons released RB Steven Jackson, per source.

I'm not optimistic about this, but Steven Jackson is worth a look in camp. He might be finished, but he is roughly the same size as Corey Dillon at 6'2" 230 and played on a Falcons team that didn't know how to get out of its own way. He was a terrific receiver out of the backfield in St. Louis, which for a big back, is rare and made him dangerous.

Interesting to think about Blount and Steven Jackson in the same backfield. That's like having two linebackers lined up behind Brady.

Jackson is certainly worth a look, but I think that he's done. After all, we have two open RB roster spots.

@DougKyedNESN: The Patriots cut safety Steve Gregory on the last Friday of last February. If there's a Patriots cut coming, it could happen today.

hartline is interesting. bill loves him some white receivers!:D
...curious to see if the bears cut marshall. that's someone we should try to get.

also like the idea of signing canty.

I'm still not in the Chung camp, so I'd still be interested in him (but the cap probably makes it a non-starter). I'd rather have a safety I actually like on the field than have one where I'm thinking "Well, because Revis and McCourty are so good, we can get away with Chung as long as we don't let him get exposed, because we can basically just use him as a floating 4-3 LB".

The issue with safety is that it takes three or four years for a player to make the transition to the NFL. Chung and Harmon are fine alongside McCourty with guys like Browner and Revis in front of them. It would be nice to pick up a genuine safety in free agency to pair with McCourty.

There's not much out there on the safety free agent list that would come at the right price. Too bad former Eagles safety Nate Allen is a knucklehead.

I see Revis switching to safety in a few years to extend his career as Charles Woodson did when he made the move from corner to safety when his man cover abilities diminshed with age.

I doubt you could find any rational and reasonable poster who really thinks Amendola can be counted on, because he's proven the opposite throughout his career. In fact, it may well be an excellent bright line test of a person's sanity.
No one can be counted on then. Revis, Mayo, Chung, Wilfork, Brady...they've all been injured. And players who haven't been could still be.

I follow Courtney Fallon who is a sports reporter (formerly from Providence, RI, but moved to Miami for several years). She has several tweets about Hartline that make me think we are better off with what we have.

Have to say this from a reporter's perspective: Once Brian Hartline got his money, his attitude changed. Completely. Ego through the roof.

Can't wait for Hartline to have 100 catches, 1300 yards and 10 TD's for the Patriots next season.

You're smarter than this. No call to be needlessly obtuse...

Can we please not even look at Hartline. Sick of these guys who suck that we get and we always seem to say in pre season 'Brady has someone on the outside'. Guess what? NO HE F**KING DOESN'T and someone like Hartline coming here would emphasise that.

You want some speed and stretching the field? Harry Douglas. Him over Hartline every day of the week.

For context we should remember Steve Jackson was in the same draft as Vince Wilfork.

Lots of mileage in those wheels.

3 years ago Jackson might have been a good idea but now he is done. They have Blount and Gray for power backs and don't need another one. I would much rather see them bring in a complementary back like Bush who could fill Vereen's role if he isn't returning.

Two more interior OL out there:

Falcons cut Justin Blalock and Vikings cut Charlie Johnson. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/27/falcons-release-veteran-guard-justin-blalock/ and http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/27/vikings-release-guard-charlie-johnson/.

Not a huge fan of Johnson, but I think Blalock could be a solid addition. My preference remains to keep Connolly and invest a high pick on the interior OL.

I would like to keep the entire starting OL and invest 2 of the 5 draft picks we have in the top 97 on interior OG picks.

Cannon does a good job backing up Solder and Vollmer and I like Fleming as the 4th OT. OT has good depth.

Let's get two roadgrading bulls to EVENTUALLY take over for Connolly and Wendell. No more Deveys or Josh Klines.

I know that silence could be seen as a good thing - no agent-provocateurs out there, trying to play games - but it just makes me more uneasy.

Rumors, d%#*!@t, I want rumors!

Superbowl to Franchise tage day might be the worst month of the year...umm, scratch "might be".
