2015 NFL Veteran Cuts Thread

Look, if you want to make the argument that the Patriots wouldn't sign Marshall because he would be too expensive and not at a position of dire need, that's one thing. It's another to say the reason is because of character issues.

Anyone can say whatever they want, but if person X has a bad experience with a sick player/person/husband/wife/friend and that sick person went and "got help" that dosent mean that person X is just going to take the sick person back because they are "fixed."

Life dosent work that way.

I agree that Amendola is being overpaid. I agree that Belichick won't pay him $4.4M. Miguel gives us the possibility of having the same cap hit as cutting Amendola by converting $2.1M to NLTBE incentives which if met would hit is 2016 making his 2016 cap hit about 8M.

My personally view is that Amendola just isn't worth $4.4M increasing each year, even if he meets incentive targets that he might sign.

I really think Amendola will restructure. I think they will cut his base v pay but give him incentives to earn a good portion of it back.

I don't understand your last sentence. If the incentives were set at levels that would make him worth 4.4m if he achieves them, why would he not be worth 4.4m if he achieves them?

If the team believed that Amendola is worth $4.4M under certain conditions, then that's fine.

My personal view is that Amendola is not worth $4.4M, and even more in 2016 and 2017. I believe that the incentives WOULD be reached, so I am considering whether, in my personal view, Amendola is worth that kind money, and an $8M cap hit in 2016.

Perhaps, Amendola, Edelman and Amendola are so good as set that they each are worth more than $4M this year and more then $5M next year. Given what we pay brady, and given how little we pay the running backs, perhaps paying Amendola big bucks.

IMHO, the question before the house is whether Amendola is a 3/$15M wide receiver.
========
BOTTOM LINE
I think that we ALL agree that this current contract will be torn up. Since we would be signing a new contract, we might consider whether any other receivers are worth Amendola money. The team can assess the market during the tampering period.

I hope that he does.

Odd that this post warranted a dislike.

If you look at the list, its almost always the exact same posters that dislike everything.. misery loves company i guess

Again, your slippery slope argument of we brought in one player with past problems implying that we would bring in any player with problems is not convincing to me.

Your straw man argument implying that advocating for Marshall is equivalent to advocating we bring in any player with problems is not convincing to me.

You would miss him when Bush is sitting out with an injury.

Vereen hasn't exactly been a model example of durability.. he basically got paid the first 2 years to sit in the ice tub.. then missed most of his 3rd year with the wrist injury.. go figure, he has 1 healthy season and its in his contract year

His injury history may be the most important reason why Vereen is not re-signed.

Want to see what happens with Vereen first. His pass protection skills are pretty darn good and wouldn't be easily replaced by Bush. There is also a draft with some pretty good prospects that could possibly step in right away.

I don't think there are any WRs or 3rd down backs from the draft that could step in right away.. this offense has proven to be a meat grinder for young, talented WRs out of the draft and to be a 3rd down back in this system you need to have your pass protection assignments down like clockwork..

No rookie is coming in and filling that need IMO

Imagine adding hungry motivated Reggie Bush and Percy Harvin to this O.
Only thing better would be if we drafted Gurley or convinced AP to play with his boy Percy then its straight d In the draft.

I don't want Percy Harvin anywhere near this team from the stories ive read about him.. supposidly hes lazy, doesn't work well with others and has had problems with the coaching staff..

that and hes paid like a top WR when he hasn't done anything noteworthy in a long, long time.

Peterson may be available soon in free agency or by trade, presumably after the appeal of the current case.

Given that Peterson would greatly improve our situation at RB, how would you feel if the patriots signed or traded for Peterson?

For you, are non-football issues relevant to how you might accept this deal?

Meh. I could live with it, with a "You get nothing and you're gone" clause for any future abuse. Nothing guaranteed if the behavior repeats. Nossink! That's as far as you can go and still not have to take a shower after watching the team win, really. I mean, letting him continue beating kids and still be on the team, and there's just no excuse. You end up feeling wrong for rooting for him.

On the other hand, the above is predicated on a theory of nobody bidding big $ for him, which I think is silly. Somebody will pony up. I like the working class group we have now, or a subset thereof. This is based on chains moved per cap dollar basically.

Now if we get AD for that same cap dollar, hellz yeah. Just make sure to indemnify against more child-whuppin'. Land of second chances and all that.

Does he represent any sort of value coming off of this situation or will teams overlook these things for a hof running back?

He should come here on a 1 year deal to win the SuperBowl

I'd love Bush here but he doesn't strike me as the sort who will take the $$ we'd be offering.
I'm not sure the demand for him will be that high. Coming off a not so great year, difficulty staying healthy and on the wrong side of 30 at the start of the season?

Can't see Belichick spending that kind of money when we use a RBBC system. Just my opinion. I'd be happy if we did sign him, but I highly doubt it will happen.

Could still be in the 1.75--2.25m range, or something at least close to it.
