2015 NFL Veteran Cuts Thread

he was cut, so I don't think compensatory draft picks would come into play, would it?

They dont, which is why we still expect a compensatory pick for Talib even though we signed revis, who was released.

It's important to notice being 30 years old nowadays it's not like being 30 10 years ago. The sports medicine keeps advancing, better supplements in the market, better juices, a 30 year old player has a real shot on today's game.

Reggie Bush is 29, every year people seems to rule out players based on age going earlier every year, 35s, 33s, now 30? Following this trend we will soon start to say that X is on the wrong side of his twenties.

He is a bad teammate a me, me, me guy, lacks stability and our OC gave him away in his prime for nothing.

He's been nothing but a model citizen and locker room leader for the entire time he's been in Chicago, since he began receiving treatment for BPD. You're being unfair.

This isn't true for running backs, who still seem to run out of gas at 30 - and Bush will be 30 in a few weeks. Bush has been injured quite a bit throughout his career, including last year, and when he played last season he was mediocre. Every klaxon about over the hill running backs should be going off right now.

Some team will pay for the Reggie Bush name - let it be someone else.

If 8 is like 2 then you are correct. And he was superb in 4 games.

The DA bashing is getting old. Yeah not worth 4.5 but certainly not worthless. And cutting him saves really nothing.

And we wouldnt have won the SB without him. That is certain.

Cutting Amendola saves $2.1M this year and lots more next year. His new money hit is $4.4M.

It is NOT bashing to say that the team is unlikely to allow Amendola to pay for $4.4M. If they can't reach deal, he WILL be cut. Do you disagree?

It was nothing against the post, and I wasn't disagreeing with it. I just find it funny how having a player made by Swarovsky is now basically the Patriots sweet spot.
Oh okay. Lol yeah, a bit tongue in cheek but it seems to be the norm lately.

A locker room leader on a dysfunctional team is a back handed complement.
There are many players we can use our precious cap space on. I choose not to use it on one who has a bad history as a selfish player and bad teammate that has never played on a team that made the playoffs.
Perhaps he has overcome his personal issues, but he's not worth the risk it would take to find out.

Sure yeah I can't remember a single Patriots acquisition like that

Tecnicaly that is correct but I am talking about the grand scheme of value and performance. We still need a WR there.

Per Miguels ideas:

Lower Danny Amendola’s salary from $4 million to $1.9 million – net cap savings of $2,100,000 which is $510,000 more than what would be achieved by releasing him. Amendola’s 2015 cap number would then be $3.6 million. Releasing Amendola before June 2nd would cause a dead money hit of $3.6 million. I would give Amendola the chance to earn back the money by reaching NLTBE incentives. - See more at: http://www.patsfans.com/salary-cap/?p=1508#sthash.9yUC9Pco.dpuf

If they cut him and feel they have good enough players to replace him... great. I dont see it but maybe its there. Or if they can get a better value. But I assume they can get him to restructure, and if they cant, the whole exercise is moot because he wont be here at current salary.

That is not bashing at all. I dont see anyone here indicating he is a good value at current salary, unless God came down and guaranteed he was going to play like he did in the Jets game, Ravens games all year.

Irrelevant however because that is not what the poster said. Saying DA was good in 2 games is kinda blindly bashing a player for the sake of saying he is too expensive or not liking him? I dont know...they are separate issues anyway (value and whether or not we "like" DA).

The # of games DA was "good" in was previously covered in several emails. It certainly was not 2

Saying he is overpaid is not bashing. Its the general consensus here.

oh, right

Different players, different people. You can't throw a blanket over 'problem' and call everyone the same.

Primetime to be fair, Weiss did not have a prior issue with Dillon like JMD and BM had.

Second, we had Antowain Smith as our lead back with 600ish yards on the year. We were desperate for a feature back.

Third, we were not nearly in potential cap hell back then as we are now with such pressing needs elsewhere.

Also, that was a extremely solid Vet locker room with a lot of seasoned guys, Willie G, Bru, Faulk, Brown, Harrison , Law.

There was not going to be any nonsense in that locker room.

Okay, sure. Except Dillon was much more of a "problem" than Marshall. The latter got angry in the locker room last season because no one on his team seemed to care, while Dillon literally walked off the field during a game. Dillon and Marshall both had a history of antisocial behavior, but Marshall is now being treated for a personality disorder while Dillon, as far as I'm aware, was never diagnosed with any sort of personality disorder as such. And then there's LeGarrette Blount, who the Patriots were only too happy to bring back last season after he quit on the Steelers and whose background is far from lily white.

Look, if you want to make the argument that the Patriots wouldn't sign Marshall because he would be too expensive and not at a position of dire need, that's one thing. It's another to say the reason is because of character issues.

I agree that Amendola is being overpaid. I agree that Belichick won't pay him $4.4M. Miguel gives us the possibility of having the same cap hit as cutting Amendola by converting $2.1M to NLTBE incentives which if met would hit is 2016 making his 2016 cap hit about 8M.

My personally view is that Amendola just isn't worth $4.4M increasing each year, even if he meets incentive targets that he might sign.

Agree, I hope they restructure and keep him around. When healthy he is better than anyone else they will get for the same money (especially given the hit) without worrying if there will be a problem grasping the system or a potential locker room issue.

You are entitled to your opinion. I disagree.
I don't want Marshall on the Patriots, and I perceive that BB would not either.
Again, your slippery slope argument of we brought in one player with past problems implying that we would bring in any player with problems is not convincing to me.

I don't understand your last sentence. If the incentives were set at levels that would make him worth 4.4m if he achieves them, why would he not be worth 4.4m if he achieves them?
