200 yards and one touchdown in the RS. he had some nice moments in the PS but Can't count on him

This is a ridiculous statement. Amendola was injured most of last year and played through some of it.. He got better this year as the year went along and was HUGE when Edelman was banged up.

This team has

a TE (Gronk)
a Slot/OWR combo (Edelman)
a WR3 in LaFell

It needs more.

I like looking at it this way -- as a total buffet of reliable targets. Last year they had 4 in Gronk, Edelman, LaFell and Vereen (who really was the WR3), and in the postseason Amendola blessedly morphed into a 5th. With Vereen and Amendola both questionable to return, it's pretty clear that the team has to add some pass-catching talent.

But since we're talking about veteran cuts: so far Bush is the only one I could see as a fit. Marshall and Jones don't tempt me.

I would absolutely love bush in a pats uniform. One of my favourite players.

would have liked the Bush from say 5 years ago. That train unfortunately has long left the station.

At this point, we shouldn't rule out any position on the team (except for QB). If you don't try to improve/change/evolve, other teams catch up to you. Our division is going to have great defensive play. We need to stay ahead of them.

I'm concerned about the Kardashian baggage.

Yeah, I don't want to go deeply into this, but at least it's tangential to what I was discussing earlier, as you're talking total receiving depth, so I'm not being totally repetive. It's important to point out that those who say "We don't need another WR" ignore some pretty obvious issues, even disregarding the lack of a real middle-deep threat:

As of right now, Gronk's the only TE worth a damn in the passing game, and he's a china doll, despite being a tank, if you know what I'm saying.
Edelman, Amendola and Dobson are 3 more china dolls.
LaFell is the only established WR with any size.
The 3dRB is a free agent.

Again, this is just the reality of the Patriots roster. People thinking there's not an issue here must also believe that nothing needs to be done for the OL, because the starting OL is in better shape than the starting 3 WRs, the top 2 TEs and the receiving RB situation.

Marriage has never really been that important to her...

I agree that Lefell is a #2 receiver.

It does not follow that we don't need a #3 wide receiver. Are we just expecting Dobson, Tyms, Wright and White to be our receiving threats that will put fear into the hearts of opponents?

We have Gronkowski, Edelman, and LaFell. We don't know whether Amendola or Vereen is coming back. UDFA Wright could have a good 2nd year as a backup TE, but he wasn't used much. We need MORE than three receiving options. Personally, I think of five as a minimum number of solid receivers, although I understand that this role can be filled by WR's TE's and RB's. Personally, I'm fine with NO additions IF Amendola and Vereen come back.

In any case, we need a #3 WR. We run lots of 3 wide receiver sets. Also, it is just possible that one of the top three receivers might miss a game or two. We need additional weapons.

Deus and I disagree to the extent that WR is a need. I even have us drafting a 3rd round WR if Greene is there, so it's not like I view our WR situation as all set.

WR depth is a need. But so is DE depth, DT depth, OL depth, and RB depth.

We have an established WR duo. Edelman has developed into a guy who gives guys like Chris Harris and Vontae Davis a hard time. Lafell would have been a 1,000 yard WR if he started the beginning of the season.

We need a WR3. If Amendola is cut, Dobson, Tyms, and mid-late round rookies could compete for that role.

Even if our WR3 is a nobody, Gronk/Edelman/Lafell is enough to have the best offense in the NFL. A 5th receiving option behind our receiving RB isn't that high of a priority IMO.

Our OL currently has two starting guards that can be upgraded and no depth at guard as well. A rookie could come in day 1 and win a starting job at those positions. Edelman/Lafell aren't getting dethroned anytime soon.

Amendola is ALWAYS injured though. It's always something with him. He can't be counted on for a consistent role.

This is also an issue. Almost all of the Patriots receiving options have pretty deep injury histories. I cringe every time Gronk gets hit. Something on Amendola is always broken. I'm surprised Edelman hasn't missed a game in 2 years considering he couldn't stay healthy his first few years in the league. The Patriots offense is 1 injury away (Gronk/Edelman/Lafell) from falling apart and that should scare people.

No he wasn't. He played but he wasn't 100%. He's been hurt since the first game he played against Buffalo last year. Facts are facts, his stat line this year was 27 rec 200 yds 1 TD in the regular season. That's not good.

You imply that if Amendola is cut that Belichick might rely on Dobson, and a mid-late round rookie to fill the three wide receiver spots. I strongly disagree. Belichick would likely bring in 2-3 wide receivers to compete with Dobson and Tyms.

I also disagree with the idea that our three receivers are so good (and never injured) that they give us the best offense in the NFL.

I think that we need depth. We also need someone to actually run the patterns in the 3 WR set. Not having an effective #3 WR essentially limits us to a 2 WR - 2 TE set. The patriots have had problems finding receivers who understand the offense. Dobson and Tyms are not going to magically become dependable. If Amendola isn't coming back, there will be lots of competition.

Have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot of players being cut in the next week or so. Should be very interesting to see if any of our players join the list.

Ash

Is your buddy amendola gonna stay? Shoot me a pm

So Bush is a talented 3rd down back who has worked with some of NE's coaches before, but can be injury prone at times, and will likely come cheaper than the team's outgoing FA 3rd down back? And since he was cut by his previous team he won't count against the compensatory pick formula?

Can anyone find a reason why BB would NOT sign him? Sounds like the stars are aligned on this one.
