The MVP for the Super Bowl was presumably between Brady, Edelman, Gronk and Butler, with Brady winning it.

But I still don't think this was a great game for Brady except for the 4th quarter. I don't think you can give the MVP to a QB who gives up two picks like that. In fact, a good portion of his long passes were picks. I'm sick of people choosing the best plays of a QB and forgetting picks - one key reason I thought Dilfer was undervalued even though he had zero post-season turnovers in his SB win.

Edelman was spectacular, and Gronk too. Vereen was critical as well.

Still, I think the MVP should have gone to Butler for two very simple reasons:

1. Without Butler's interception, the Patriots would have almost certainly lost the game.

2. I don't think any other player would have made that play. I've still never seen any play like that. It's a huge gamble by the cornerback, and I think most corners are conditioned not to take such a gamble. And the explosiveness off the line was unreal.

Now, if you want to give the MVP to Brady for being the MVP of the *season*, well, that's reasonable. But for the game itself, I feel like what Butler did was unprecedented. (I asked in another thread if anyone had seen an interception as athletically and timing-wise as shocking, nobody had.)

Since the voting period for MVP ends about 5 minutes before the game does, it wouldn't have happened anyway.

Butler's play means nothing if Brady had not led 2 almost flawless drives for 14 points ...

Also before those 2 drives it would have been easy for the team to fold ... Seattle had momentum...

However ... Brady put the team on his back ... that = MVP.

OTOH, I'd give better than even odds that if they opened the voting lines after the SB ended, Butler would have won, ahem, running away. :D

I agree Brady because of those last 2 drives which were great but Brady made 1 massive stupid throw and the 2nd interception was no gem either. Edleman would have been a good choice and the game changed when Vereen came in though I would take Edleman over Vereen. Edleman showed what Welker was lacking in the big game.

As noted, one could make the case for several players already listed.

Even by Tom Brady's standard, I myself was in awe of those final two drives he led and orchestrated. And I've seen a lot of great stuff from Tom but that was really special.

He kept that offense composed and confident when it could have folded.

The 2nd INT was an exceptional play by Wagner (from memory).

Nope. It was very clearly Brady with Edelman very close behind. Butler would have probably been my 3rd option. Edelman had a terrific game and would have been the MVP in most SBs if Brady hadn't had such a great game himself.

I personally thought Edelman deserved it, but Brady got no support from his running game and still put the team on his back. I have no problem with the choice. Ty Law had a more compelling case in 36 than Butler had in 49.

TFB

Seriously. It took every one of them but Brady is the biggest reason they won that game. Down 10 in the 4th quarter and he goes 13-15 with 2 touchdowns. Edelman was fantastic, Vereen was great, and Amendola delivered when he had to but Brady is the one running the show and he was flawless. The question is often asked about who You would want at QB with the season on the line and after that it's a moot point. There is no one better when it matters most than Brady, and he proved that once again in the Super Bowl. He's the GOAT.

I keep thinking about this but Butler didn't score those 14 points in the fourth quarter and if it wasn't for kearse's catch and Carrol's terrible clock management/play calling then Butler never gets the chance

Multiple receivers had a decent to good game, and Edelman's game wasn't THAT amazing. So it's Brady over Edelman in the MVP standings.

Brady has 1 stupid throw that was the first int. that's it. I personally believe it was because he didn't want a intentional grounding since against Seattle and his last super bowl, he had 2 bogus ones called on him and was rushed seeing Bennett. He had a split second to react, and unfortunately he just didn't get it away. Otherwise he was Dang near flawless.

With 4 touchdowns and over 50+ throws against the best/elite defense in the league, you don't need to "forget" or overlook anything about Brady's 2 interceptions to acknowledge that he still had a MVP performance.

Interceptions happen... especially when playing a team like Seattle.

For reference (if anecdotal) Aaron Rodgers was the NFL MVP but he still came away with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions when he played Seattle a couple weeks before in the NFCCG.
