2015 NFL Veteran Cuts Thread

Reggie Bush would make a great Vereen replacement...and cheaper

Packers cut LB AJ Hawk.

That's a player worth looking at carefully. Smart, durable and a Super Bowl champion whose job was to call the defense and be solid so others could take risks. At the right price, he would be a good backup or platoon at the Mike with Mayo.

I've always liked Reggie Bush, he would have had 1,000 yards rushing three years in a row if we hadn't held him to 26 yards in week 17 of 2012. He's obviously a good fit if he is cheap but I think he was cut more because the Lions are trying to keep Suh than anything else. He had his best year of his career in 2013 and you can definitely say that injuries were the real culprit this season but he does fumble and we all know how Belichick feels about fumbling.

Using your argument, and following the logic, the Patriots should make absolutely no moves beyond keeping every single player.

Who's going to tell Bill to get rid of all his draft picks?

While i get what your saying. I think the reply was to the wording we have "needed". The counter argument seems to be well we won last year without that WR so it seems like we don't "need".

The argument that we should just sign everyone back doesn't take into account age e.t.c personally i don't think we "need" any more players to win a SB than we did last year (hard to argue with). However could we improve? 100% agree with you that we can.

Will that be Dobson being healthy? Will it be Amendola being healthy? Will Wright be that move TE? I agree that you can't count on either of those 3 things.

It's hard for me however to prioritize WR when our 1st 4 pass catcher options (ex RB) Gronk, LaFell, Amendola and Edelman are all signed through next year with Dobson and Tyms in the wings.

@PP_Rich_Hill: Reggie Bush found his career rebirth in 2011 in Miami, under OC Brian Daboll and OL Dave DeGuglielmo. Both coaches on NE staff.

Amendola was a key contributor in our SB run. Perhaps you missed most of December, and all of January and February.

WR is not a need.

If the patriots are willing to pay Amendola $4.4M for his 2015 services, then there is no need. If not, there is indeed a need to sign a wide receiver, who could be Amendola after his contract is torn up.

Edelman is a WR1, and I'm not sure why Lafell isn't a WR2?

I agree that Lefell is a #2 receiver.

It does not follow that we don't need a #3 wide receiver. Are we just expecting Dobson, Tyms, Wright and White to be our receiving threats that will put fear into the hearts of opponents?

We have Gronkowski, Edelman, and LaFell. We don't know whether Amendola or Vereen is coming back. UDFA Wright could have a good 2nd year as a backup TE, but he wasn't used much. We need MORE than three receiving options. Personally, I think of five as a minimum number of solid receivers, although I understand that this role can be filled by WR's TE's and RB's. Personally, I'm fine with NO additions IF Amendola and Vereen come back.

In any case, we need a #3 WR. We run lots of 3 wide receiver sets. Also, it is just possible that one of the top three receivers might miss a game or two. We need additional weapons.

I agree about another wr option. Everyone here seems to think dobson will bounce back. I dont believe that. I question his work ethic when healthy.

Want to see what happens with Vereen first. His pass protection skills are pretty darn good and wouldn't be easily replaced by Bush. There is also a draft with some pretty good prospects that could possibly step in right away.

Injury prone, going on 30, chance to get a ring....how much money he command anyways?

He got a ring with the Saints in 2009, makes you wonder if that might be a factor in where he goes. And with Marshall, apparently, he wants to keep his Inside the NFL gig which entails a round trip flight to NY on tuesday. That might be something that the team might not be in favour of...but NY is a lot closer to Mass than Illinois is/was.

Amendola is signed at $4.4M. I agree that WR is a minor need if Amendola comes back.

Jones is a WR I could see them looking at if DA is not back. Kinda fell out of favor ion Baltimore and only being paid a couple of million. Has talent and experience.

I would prefer DA myself.

Bush is looking like the perfect fit. 30 year old injury prone 3rd down RB coming off a bad season, should be dirt cheap.

Imagine adding hungry motivated Reggie Bush and Percy Harvin to this O.
Only thing better would be if we drafted Gurley or convinced AP to play with his boy Percy then its straight d In the draft.

Just a weird situation there. You'd almost have to be a coach, player or on the training /medical staff to get the lowdown on what's going on there with Dobson. Certainly the media and fans have no clue.

I think he will be one of the most intriguing stories going into training camp this season.

Players that are cut now before FA, There able to sign with a team right away right

I would absolutely love bush in a pats uniform. One of my favourite players.
