Welker and Edelman

You're right, his catch rate was only 70.5% in 2011. Still higher than any year in Edelman's career.

And he led the league in receptions and was 2nd in receiving yards. That was the second time he was second overall in receiving in the NFL, 5th time in the top 11. Edelman almost broke the top 20 last year. Maybe he'll get there this year.

Do you feel better that you pointed that out now?

I'll take the players that get us over the hump when we need them most over the players that can hoard stats and then drop the biggest pass of their lives.

Brady > Peyton
Minitron > Welker

You just argued that Peyton Manning is a better QB than Tom Brady in this post.

Congrats on your completely absurd argument, and thank you for showing why you are not to be taken seriously.

You might actually have a valid point if @JJDChE were talking about QBs rather than WRs.

That said, Welker had the advantage of never needing to be the #1 receiver the way Edelman did at times last year.

He's arguing that because Welker has better stats it means Welker > Edelman. Using that same argument he would have to also believe that Manning > Brady, which we all know is absurd and untrue.

Unless he can explain why the stats comparison should be used for one position but not the other.

Obviously, I'm not him, but I can see an obvious reason why that should be so.

The Patriots let Welker go at the perfect time.

I feel absolutely TERRIFIC about what the Patriots did in regards to Welker. And the Edelman of 2013 and 2014 was eons better than the Welker of 2013 and 2014.

That being said, he WAS a great player for them while here. I'm not in the camp that is going to denigrate what WW did for the Pats. If Gronk was healthy in SB46 as he was in 49, the SB ring argument would be non-existent.

The Patriots know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em.

I agree they let Welker go at the right time. No one can keep producing with the beatings he took and his performance began to show it, even though he continued to produce at a high level it was becoming more clear he was heading for the cliff.

Do you remember the fallout here when he was not coming back? I thought it would have crashed the internet. You would have thought the way most people were behaving that we were getting rid of some great player lol

You're free to think whatever you like. While individuals certainly have biases, using a panel tends to cancel out biases. Whatever is on those lists is far less biased than any commentary here.
Well, my take is that's a biased opinion. Panel use never necessarily cancels out biases. Consider a panel of media members consisting of Marshall Faulk, Mark Brunell, Tom Jackson and Cris Carter discussing the legitimacy of the Patriots' Super Bowl Championships. Lots of cancelling out of biases there.

Another odd way of looking at it is this..........

Malcolm Butler caught the ball and Asante Samuel did not.

That is why Edelman is a champ and Welker is not. Edelman played well in SB 49 just as Welker had a great game in SB 42, but the defense didn't make the stop it needed to wrap it up.
