OT: Falcons being investigated for piping in fake crowd noise

The lack of outrage is why I don't care about the media coming after us anymore.

When the hypocrisy reaches these levels of absurdity, it's gone well beyond the point anyone should be getting upset over. Just point and laugh and offer our haters a peanut butter & jealous sammy.

Manning: 0 SB titles since NoiseCDgate...:p

It's funny because it's true :)

Also, I know it's only Schefter's guess as to what happens and not an official statement by the league, but how does a fine and only the possibility of losing a draft fit as a punishment? Piping in crowd noise clearly helps the Falcons and puts their opponents at a disadvantage. It directly impacts the games on the field. A first round pick should be the starting point, if the commissioner has any consistency.

Before the likes of Warner, Irsay, Marshal Faulk this would come under the general heading of "Competitive Advantage"... now they call it cheating.

They would go in the backroom and tell them to knock it off, and warn them maybe give them a quite slap..

Now it all becomes some kind of major scandal, and an investigation will ensue.. all the while Goodell will speak of integrity of the league, while leaking out snippets of info to the press..

This is why getting mad about it just plays into their hands, especially with other fan bases.

Nobody actually believes the Patriots thoroughly annihilated Indianapolis because of the condition of the footballs. They just want to drop the Patriots down a notch because they're mad and jealous.

Laughing in their faces deprives them of their goal, whereas getting upset and overly defensive about this stuff more or less fulfills it.

just for the heck of it I decided to read a few of the espn comments on this...the gist I get is

"atlanta shouldnt be fined because it didnt work!" and "the patriots made it to the superbowl!"

I want to shake my head as these same fans are the ones who were crying "it doesnt matter that they wouldve won anyway! its about the integrity of the game!" so cheating is only bad if you win. its ok if you lose...

whats funny is that this investigation started midway through the season...and we havent heard a peep about it until now

but the pats? we hear **** every day consistenly...and i dont mean offically

One would think that if any team was going to get hit for piping in crowd noise it would be the dolts.

Irsay and Goodell have a rock solid connection.
Crack is wack
I don't see goodell as a crack head kind of guy, irsay yeah goodell no. He looks more of a scotch drinker, but you never know.

Scotch doesn't Make people say the ridiculous crap that comes out of Goodells mouth.
I think we should drug test him jk

This is surprising, Here i was thinking that PATS are the only team that "cheats" and the other 31 teams were full of saints, priests, monks, gurus etc..

Posted this for haters at another forum and predictably they dismiss it because in their bitter pea-minds it matters only if it's the Patriots.

Looking forward to rubbing in the SB after the game.

So, its appears as if 'Noisegate' (to give it its appropriately inane media title) is back on the menu.

What evidence, if any, do we have that anything untoward has happened here?

My faith in the NFL to hold a reasonable investigation is approximately zero so what do we think the outcome will be?

How commonplace is 'piping in noise' ?- Indianapolis has a reputation (mostly fan based) on being culprits for this as well.

Is the piping in of noise specifically prohibited by the NFL rulebook? What about those gigantic screens/speakers that we see at Sports venues? What ones are allowed?

Funny, Bill Polian said that the league wouldn't punish the Falcon's harshly because they viewed piping in crowd noise as having no competitive advantage. Of course that never made any sense because why even make it a rule and why would people break the rule if it had no competitive advantage (see how I can turn around the Patriots' hater's argument on Spygate on them).

I always thought this was far bigger than deflategate. You see in stadiums with extremely loud crowd noise like Seattle and KC where the crowd can create false starts and force teams to call time outs because they can't get the play in on time. Other than gross hyperbole by former players on ESPN, we never got a clear indication that one or two PSI less than than regulation makes any competitive advantage.

Exactly. If the extra crowd noise didn't help, why were they doing it? Trying to set an indoor noise record? Intentionally damaging the hearing of their paying customers?

I've heard the reasoning used to excuse the artificial crowd noise is that the offense can use a silent count. Doesn't that still limit the offense, though? If the defense audibles, the QB won't be able to change the play at the line. Or the center won't be able to change the protection scheme. A silent count can help, but a visiting team may end up burning timeouts or running plays that the might otherwise audible out of. It's not an unbeatable countermeasure.
