OT: It's official, Jameis Winston doesn't have the intelligence for the NFL

He's confident in himself. What's the big deal?

Brady said to Kraft as a rookie that he was the best decision the organization will have ever made. Was he stupid too?

I think that Winston has a better shot than Mariota, who looks much skinnier and fragile than Winston. Although Mariota is 6'4" and 220lbs, he looks one hit away from the bench.

The two best QB's last year were Brady, a pocket passer who showed great movement in the pocket, and Rodgers, who has great mobility, can run and can throw. After that, no matter what the stats say, they were all stiffs.

But those guys come along once every 30 years!

If Winston or Mariota are as good as Vick or Kapernick were for the short periods, they would bring good value to their teams.

Given the 2 choices, I'd much rather take Mariota. He seems more coachable. He has a quicker release. I don't think he should start though. Maybe a red shirt year, hit the weight room. But it's not an option for QB needy teams. So Eagles would be a good fit. Let foles start. Or Houston. If he goes to the jets or Titans, bye bye NFL career.

There's something about Winston's mechanics that is off. I don't know how much of that is attributed to the rumor that his shoulder has issues. But it looks like his motion is almost like this year's Peyton. Something's not right. It prevents him from having a quick release. I think that's a significant disadvantage in the NFL.

Those of you still trying to nitpick Winston should get the replay of Zolak's show from today. According to him, it's Winston over Mariotta after the combine, and it's not even close.

Winston clearly has the physical tools, but like many others I question whether he has the mental fortitude to cut it in the NFL. That said, I'm not sure that this incident is dispositive.

I hope the Jets sign him, it's gonna be a **** storm, Winston, Geno, if only Rex were still there...

"With the #6 pick of the NFL draft, the NY Jets select, Jameis Winston.."

If he wants to put levels of expectations that high on himself, good for him. To keep pace with the greatest, Winston will have to be SB champ one year from now..... And he doesn't even have a team yet.

In one year, if I still remember this happened, I'll level a judgment.

If he had said that he was planning for anything less than a Super Bowl, the same people calling him arrogant would be calling him things like 'mentally weak', "not confident enough" and the like.

As Patriot fans, you'd think we'd be keen to these things.

Well, a) Brady was correct and b) he didn't make any fantastical claims on national television.

He said that to Kraft. In private. After he was drafted. Not predraft to national media. He also didn't say he'd win the SB his first year.

From an unnamed NFL scout:

Someone will take him in the first round, but how could you even let that guy in the building?" another scout said. "The second law of thermodynamics basically is the more ways something can happen, the more likely it is to happen. That's true of players. The more ways they can (expletive) up, the more chances they (expletive) up. This guy's got a lot of stuff that would lean him more likely to be a bust than a good player."

So you're okay with over-confidence as long as it's not expressed on national television?

Well, as we all know, in Brady's case it wasn't overconfidence, it was spot on. If in a year, Winston has beaten Manning and Brady on his way to winning the Super Bowl with Tampa, I'll be back to eat crow.

And yes, I think there is a difference between making a promise to one's boss in private, and talking about flying cars on TV.

Chris Mortenson is reporting 11 out of 12 1st grade teachers would have flunked Jameis.

They're fine with it as long as they don't already have a bias against the player. There's almost as much confirmation bias in this thread as there is in a thread about opponent quality.

I would do that if there were some way to do it without having to listen to Zolak. Every time I hear him speak I get the urge to clear my throat.

None of us know exactly how QBs will do in the NFL. I'm just glad that the Pats grabbed a 4th QB in the 2000 draft. He ended up doing ok.

I wonder if that scout works for the team with the second pick?
