It's an unusual move to post a Pronounciation as a Thread, but it seemed to me to be the most practical way to provide my Fellow FootBall Fiends a relatively easy Reference in the Draft Room.

The name flows with a rather sweet Rhythm, once you know how to say it, don't you think? :D

Oh-WAH-mahg-bay Oh-dih-gee-zoo-wah!!
Oh-WAH-mahg-bay Oh-dih-gee-zoo-wah!!
Oh-WAH-mahg-bay Oh-dih-gee-zoo-wah!!
Oh-WAH-mahg-bay Oh-dih-gee-zoo-wah!!

Get the nicknames ready.

His father, Peter, is serving three life sentences for a triple homicide shooting at Appalachian School of Law (Va.) in 2002.

Here you can hear him say his own name

Ali Boom By Eh

Diggy had a heck of a combine. He's gotta be in the conversation at 32.

OK, in all seriousness -- OTG, after listening to him say it himself, I'm afraid the g isn't silent and the stress is on the zu. My take:

Oh-WAH-mahg-bay Oh-dih-ghee-ZOO-wah

We need him to pair with the name of Hooman.

Maybe Nantz will avoid going to our games. ;)

Hmm...There's no question that you're correct about the Emphasis in the first name, but I'm not so sure about that G. Can't hear it at all. But he says it so softly that I can't be certain, and feel like I'd have to have my hand on'is throat ~ in a respectful, gentle manner, of course!! ;) ~ to judge whether'r not the Adam's Apple bounces for the G. It's even harder to discern where he's placing the Emphasis on'is last name, but it seems to me that it's pretty much where the OP had it ~ I just Cut & Pasted this from a Rob Rang article.

*Listened to it a few more times, and I think I can hear the slightest Emphasis on that ZOO.

Thank you kindly, Miss Pat!! Great ears!! I'll amend it thus, for now:

Oh-WAH-mah-bay Oh-dih-gee-ZOO-wah

Off The Grid and I have been delving deeper into this critical matter via PM. After exhaustive research, we've declared this new compromise pronunciation the official Best Stab For Now:

Oh-WAH-mahg-bay Oh-dih-gee-zoo-wah

As always, the PatsFans draft board will leave no stone unturned in our collective quest for perfection.

Serious question: where, if anywhere, does the stress go on the last name?

I had the same question. It seems like the "compromise" was a cop-out. :D

Needless to say, this was the subject of considerable scholarly debate. Note that not every language demands differential syllable stress; in Japanese, for instance, all syllables are equally stressed. Odighizuwa appears to have a subtler stress pattern than we're accustomed to in English, but you can go with minor stress on the "di" and slightly stronger stress on the "zu." Something like this:

oh-dih-gee-zoo-wah

I just watched some tape of him and I like this guy! He can burst of the line fast, he plays on both sides of the line. He's got some good power in his rush, using bull rush or just throwing his tackle to the side. Against USC he was very successful with using a quick inside rip right off the snap, beating his tackle several times. But I thought that he looked pretty raw in some of his moves. Playing a bit too high when trying to round his tackle from time to time. But overall I really liked him. He plays with a high motor and has a knack for getting into the backfield and disrupting plays.

It's not rawness that contributes to him not being able to bend the edge, it's a physical limitation brought on by previous hip injuries. However, he's so good at everything else, I don't care about that. Use him to play LDE on running downs setting the edge and then bring him inside on passing downs as a sub-rusher.
