High character guy. No off field issues. Went to Georgia and played against top competition in the SEC. Wasn't a star and didn't get many opportunities in College as he played in a run-heavy offense, but his productivity per catch is impressive. He's known for directing a Star Wars fan fiction YouTube video in college, so it goes without saying that he's a nerd (BB type of guy).

6'2
215lbs
33 3/4" arm length
9 7/8" hands

4.35 40 Yard Dash
45" Vertical Jump
139" Broad Jump
18 reps bench press

Those are rare, freakish, elite WR measurables. He's a Top Performer at WR in literally every combine drill so far. He's the complete package as an athlete, even putting up a strong 18 reps in the bench press. Even his arm length and hands are well above average. With his speed, vertical, and arm length, his catch radius is absolutely ridiculous.

But on the standing vertical leap, he jumped 45 inches. That's the best ever by a wide receiver, and one off combine record of 46 inches set by safety Donald Washington in 2006.

And on the broad jump, he jumped 11 feet, seven inches. That's also a record for wide receivers, and ties the combine record set by defensive end Jamie Collins in 2013.

Georgia wideout Chris Conley surprised people with his athleticism at this year's NFL Combine.

He wasn't a highly-regarded prospect heading into Saturday's QB, RB and WR on-field drills, and some experts even have Conley unranked and projected to go undrafted. That may change after scouts watched him in Indy.

Conley's broad jump of 11 feet, 7 inches is tied for the best since 2003 and is the third best in the history of the Combine. His vertical jump of 45 inches is tied for third best since '03. His 4.35 unofficial 40-yard dash time is the third best among wideouts this year. In other words, the 6-2, 213-pound receiver is commanding attention.

Before Saturday, there wasn't much to talk about with the 22-year-old other than his Star Wars film. He played four years at Georgia, but his season-high for receiving yards was just 657.

He had some drops in the drills today though.

Well I wouldnt mind double dip at Georgia at skill positions ;)

Catching is one thing that WR's can seriously improve over time. If you look at Aaron Dobson, he didnt have ANY drops his entire senior year at College, but then he came to the NFL and had a ton of drops in his rookie year. It's one of those things that can be fixed or diminish. Much of it has to do with concentration and effort.

If you ask Panthers fans about Brandon LaFell before this season, they would've said he dropped too many passes. Yet he was great for the Patriots this year, barely dropping anything.

Catching is one of my least worries about a WR prospect unless the guy has small hands, and in this case Conley has above average hand size.

He is definitely raw and will need a lot of coaching, but this is the type of guy I think McDaniels would love to mold.

I wouldn't mind grabbing him in the 2nd round. His Star Wars YouTube fan movie movie is pretty cool too. I like the guy a lot as a developmental receiver.

Belichick as he approaches the podium to discuss the Patriots draft selections. We are building a football team not a compilation of the best Itube or whotube Video producers.
That being said I do enjoy Star Wars trade up in the fourth for Chris Conley after drafting Coates in the first.
Belichick explains
Tom can shut up now about not having deep threats and bla bla bla Offensive Line Defensive line the rest of the draft.
Build thru the trenches we want to be a physical team and we signed Colt Lyera everyone deserves a second chance and he's had a tough road he certainly needs some guidance but he isn't Hernandez bad and we are trying to win Football games.
As far as drafting Coates In the first.
There was a fella who played here named Coates he was pretty decent so we figured the draft is a crap shoot Josh won rock paper scissors best 2 out of 3 it was a close call I wanted the Longsnapper from Navy, kid never had a bad snap going back to JV luckily we rolled the dice and we were able to select WhaataFwashethinkingabout after a trade up in the second I know people will miss the first rounder next year but we had to jump in front of the Ravens who I believe had him on their board.
I could care less about combine invites or never starting a game let me tell you about this player and where we feel he fits in.
Nice big strong Hawain kid immediately he will come In and be second string we feel good about him.

If he makes it to our 6th round pick we should pick him up. If we end up with a 5th i would not mind picking him there either. I don't want to use a 4th though on a player that has so little track record.

I remember a few years back someone burning up the combine.
He too came from Georgia. Impressed so much that the JETS used a high 2nd on him. He was Stephen Hill

I wouldn't spend more than a 6th-7th on him, but then I'd convert him to DB and let Brandon Browner tutor him. 6' 2" 213# with 4.35 speed, a 45" VJ and 11'7" BJ. He doesn't have to catch the ball well to be a good DB.

meh, a lot of work
for something not that funny

I bet he'd fit right in here. We're the Evil Empire of the NFL :D

Mayo, step away from the defense. It's okay. We will add to it too. It is okay to have athletics guys on offense. ;)

You just want to win every game 2-0 don't you :D

I kid cause I like ya Mayo.

Hey, I've been mocking Gurley at 32. Gimme a break.

Seriously, I have no objection to adding players to offense. But Conley apparently was a mediocre receiver based on tape, and he doesn't appear to have good hands. I'd much rather add a Tre McBride at WR. For Conley, it would depend on a more detailed tape evaluation, but if he simply isn't a very good receiver then he might make a great DB conversion.

And while I thought of it on my own, not surprisingly, others have had the same thought:
@zjwhitman Chris Conley is 6'2", 213, has 33-3/4" arms. a tremendous combine performance, and bad WR tape. Why not try to develop a corner?

@zjwhitman Considering the prowess of Richard and Carroll in this area, drafting Conley as a developmental corner is pretty intriguing.

BTW, Conley with a 7.06 3C and 4.20 SS. Not horrible, but not super agile. But bette than Brandon Browner's 2006 numbers (4.24 SS, 7.20 3C).

Those numbers are incredible and everything but can the kid play football? The biggest number to me is the 5+ drops he had. I've gotta disagree with MrNathanDrake on the importance of catching for WR prospects. The ability to catch is something that can be learned and improved....in high school and college. If you get to the NFL and can't catch then I just don't see it working because there are so many other things to learn. It doesn't matter how fast you can run and how open you can get if you don't catch the football.

Unless he has the instincts, route running and hands to go with that athletic ability he is no more than a 7th round flier to me. Every year we fall in love with these raw, freak athletes with no football skills and dream on their potential, and I am as guilty of this as anyone, but how often do they actually work out?

I would really like a back like Gurley even more so than a first round receiver, he reminds me of Jamal Charles but with more power.
Having a back like that on the field would be incredible for number 12.

Jamie Collins worked out pretty well

BB have had guy like him before and done well. Ebner had very good numbers and he is still progressing, while being a ST ace. Stephen Neal took 3 years from CERO, to start in SB. Where to use him is up to BB, but I ill rather have him as 6th "WR" redshirt thing then Tyms or Boyce.
There are other prospects in this class WHO could swap side, Marshall and Lippett etc - But this Fellow atleast have the numbers, question is the timetable, AND do he really wanna play ball.
